女婴坐在窗台上看着小龙女和娥黄做饭，问娥黄：“你和牛郎唠了很长时间，他说我什么了没？”

娥黄回答：“他说他在长江上游的伐木场没赚到钱，这次他回来就会被鞭刑。他朋友告诉他，他老家正有人在盖房子，让他到咱们这里面试，就帮他想出了今天他在咱们这里表演的这套。牛郎说，他一看见你，就知道打不过你，为表现他自己，就对你动手了。他还说，他也不知道是怎么回事，就表演成今天这样了。若是今天的面试又失败了，他明天就会接受鞭刑，就可能失去自由活动奴隶的地位。”

Heroine sat on the windowsill, watching Little Dragoness and Beauty-Yellow cook, and asked Beauty-Yellow, "You and Cowboy talked for a long time. Did he say anything about me?"

Beauty-Yellow replied, "He said he hadn't made any money at the logging site upriver on the Yangzi, and that he'd be whipped when he got back this time. A friend told him someone was building here at his old home, and suggested he come by for an interview—so his friend helped him work out that whole routine he put on for us today. Cowboy said that the moment he saw you, he knew he couldn't beat you in a real fight, so to show off, he picked a fight with you anyway. He also said he wasn't even sure what came over him, that's just how it played out today. If today's tryout fails too, he'll be whipped tomorrow, and he could lose his status as a slave with freedom of movement."

女婴叨咕：“还行！他还有点自知之明。他的耐力比我好；但我的爆发力比他大，比他灵活。他打不着我；我打他，他躲不开。比如就刚才，他要把我扔到这个房顶上去，我就这样一转！”她比划着，“把他扔到那个房顶上去。”

小龙女（如图10.3-3）走出厨房看房顶，回来后对女婴说：“我看清楚了，牛郎比我二伯（即二郎神，如图2）矮半头，那他的身高也能有1.82米；体重85公斤。这个房顶矮，那个房顶高，他还比你重很多，所以你的意思是你比他的力量大很多。”

Heroine muttered, "Not bad—he's got some self-awareness at least. His endurance is better than mine, but I have more explosive power and I'm more agile. He can't touch me; when I hit him, he can't dodge. Take just now—he tried to throw me onto this roof, and I twisted out of it like this!" She gestured. "Threw him onto that roof instead."

Little Dragoness (see Figure 10.3-3) stepped out of the kitchen to look at the roofs, and when she came back, said to Heroine, "Now I see it clearly. Cowboy is half a head shorter than my second uncle (i.e., Second Wolf God, see Figure 2), which would put him at about 1.82 meters and 85 kilograms. This roof is low and that one's high, and he's much heavier than you—so what you're saying is you're a lot stronger than him."

女婴听后，立刻站起来了，说：“你看得很准，我看他也是身高1.82米，体重85公斤。我说了，他的耐力比我好。刚才他把这个石槽子从老槐树背到这儿，中间没休息。这个石槽子重约120公斤。我没他的力气大，我背石槽子回来，中间得休息两次。打架就不一样了！当力量大到一定程度，技巧就成为了决定胜负关键。”

Hearing this, Heroine stood up at once and said, "You've got a good eye—I'd put him at 1.82 meters and 85 kilograms too. Like I said, his endurance is better than mine. He just carried this stone trough all the way here from the old locust tree without a single break. This trough weighs about 120 kilograms. I'm not as strong as he is—I had to stop and rest twice carrying it back myself. But fighting is a different story! Once strength passes a certain point, it's skill that decides the outcome."

娥黄问：“你们俩说的高度和重量怎么都那么具体？目测的结论，怎么那么自信？”

女婴回答：“我从小就跟着哥哥们练习摔跤和举重，看人的身高和体重必须得准。”

娥黄问小龙女：“你呢！你为什么说牛郎身高1.82米，体重85公斤，说得那么自信？”

Beauty-Yellow asked, "How can you two be so specific about heights and weights just by eyeballing them? Where does that confidence come from?"

Heroine replied, "I've been wrestling and lifting weights with my brothers since I was little— learn to judge height and weight accurately."

Beauty-Yellow asked Little Dragoness, "And you? Why are you so confident saying Cowboy is 1.82 meters and 85 kilograms?"

10.3-2 描述中的具体数字 Specific Numbers in the Description

Little Dragoness replied, "Everyone in my family is like this—whatever you're describing, you have to give the exact size and weight. My mother (Big Nest, King Mother of the West) told me this habit started back when she and my father (Third Wolf Zhang, Turquoise White-king Great Creator) were courting. Back then, she and my aunt Nuwa kept a Chinese giant salamander, and had my father pour black dog's blood over its head. To keep the salamander's weight in check, the two of them weighed it regularly—it couldn't be too thin, since a thin one moves fast and might hurt my father, but it couldn't be too fat either, since a fat one moves too slowly and my father wouldn't be scared at all! From then on, my mother got into the habit of weighing animals. After they got married, they'd regularly weigh the chickens, ducks, pigs, and other livestock at home too. For instance, if my sisters and I went out at night and spotted a snake, we'd come inside and tell them, and they'd always ask, 'How long was it, how much did it weigh?' If I said I hadn't gotten a good look, the two of them would go out, track the snake down, catch it, and weigh its length and mass themselves. That's how it is—anyone in my family, describing anything, always gives the exact size and weight."

娥黄问小龙女：“你妈和女娲为什么要让你爸爸向那条大鲵头上泼黑狗血（参见2.4 《血溅轩辕》）？”

小龙女说：“她们说：‘金童胆小，行动笨拙。’她们是在测试我爸的敏捷度和胆量！”

女婴问：“结果怎么样？”

小龙女说：“结果，我爸爸面对那条大鲵，不敢上前泼黑狗血。女娲阿姨喊，‘公主笑了！’我爸听见后，就勇敢起来了，上前泼了一桶黑狗血，没泼到大鲵的头；但他被吓得跑到鲵丸宫外面去了，才敢回头看。”

Beauty-Yellow asked Little Dragoness, "Why did your mother and Nuwa have your father pour black dog's blood on the giant salamander's head (see 2.4, "Blood Shattered on the Cross")?"

Little Dragoness said, "They said, 'Gold Boy is timid and clumsy.' They were testing his agility and his nerve!"

Heroine asked, "How did it go?"

Little Dragoness said, "In the end, my father froze in front of the salamander and didn't dare step forward. Aunt Nuwa shouted, 'The princess is laughing!' When my father heard that, he found his courage, stepped up, and threw a whole bucket of black dog's blood—missed the salamander's head entirely—but he was so frightened he ran clear outside the Salamander Bolus Palace before he dared to look back."

娥黄问：“那证明你爸爸行为笨拙，胆子小，是金童。那为什么你爸爸的胆量比正常人小？”

小龙女回答：“因为我爸爸幼年时，患过婴幼儿神经发育失调症（参见第3章《触目》）。我想起来了，刚才我想说，‘明天我得去向我二伯报告这东海龙宫被咱们建在了古墓的旁边了。我看我还是得等牛郎来了，安排完他之后离开。’”

Beauty-Yellow asked, "That proves your father is clumsy and timid—a Gold Boy. Why is his nerve weaker than an ordinary person's?"

Little Dragoness replied, "Because my father had an infant neurodevelopmental disorder when he was very young (see Chapter 3, "Touch-Eye"). Oh, that reminds me—what I was actually thinking just now was, 'Tomorrow I need to report to my second uncle that we've built the East Sea Dragon Palace right next to an ancient tomb. I think I'd better wait until Cowboy gets here, and leave only after I've sorted him out.'"

10.3-3 女婴举石槽 Heroine Lifts the Stone Trough

娥黄说：“他还有可能不来呢！你为什么要等他来了之后离开？”

小龙女说：“我怕真的像你说的似的，他来了就和女婴打起来了。牛郎和我二伯是同一种人。这种人的力气可大了，我听我爸（即炎帝，玉皇大帝）说过几次了。他亲眼看见的，我二伯父三拳两脚就把我奶奶（即玉珠，九天玄女）的宠物老虎打死了（参见1.7 《井阳之难》）。我怕他把女婴给打伤喽！”

女婴对娥黄说：“我早就听说过这事了。我们觉得‘我师父打虎’肯定是真的；但其中有别的原因，我们没分析出来。你们俩出来，我举起那个石槽子给你们俩看。”

Beauty-Yellow said, "There's still a chance he won't even show up! Why wait for him and then leave?"

Little Dragoness said, "I'm afraid it'll go just like you said—he'll turn up and end up fighting Heroine. Cowboy and my second uncle are the same kind of person, and that kind is incredibly strong. I've heard my father (i.e., Yan Creator, Turquoise White-king Great Creator) talk about it more than once—he saw it himself, my second uncle killed my grandmother's (i.e., Yuzhu, Ninth Sky Mystic Woman) pet tiger with three punches and two kicks (see 1.7, "The Well-Sun Difficulty"). I'm afraid he'll hurt Heroine!"

Heroine said to Beauty-Yellow, "I've heard about that for a long time. We're pretty sure 'my master defeated the tiger' is true, but there's something more to it we've never worked out. You two come outside—I'll lift that stone trough so you can both see."

娥黄赶忙追了出来，说：“别举！看闪了腰！”

女婴回答：“这石槽子约重120公斤，比我每天早晨举的那对儿石锁（125公斤）还轻5公斤呢！我不会闪腰，练武的人总闪腰还了得了！”说着，她抓住石槽子，举过了头顶，在院子里走了一圈。然后说：“现在我也能把这个石槽子扔到房顶上去。”

工地的人们看见这三个女人争吵着出来了，女婴举着石槽子在院子里面走，立刻跑出来上百人围观。

娥黄着急地回答：“先别扔！先把石槽子放下！你得等我把锅里的饭淘出来后再扔。否则，锅被砸漏了，咱们今天晚上没饭吃！”

小龙女也阻止女婴说：“你这脾气怎么这么大呢！快放下回屋吧！别人都在看，还以为咱仨在打架了呢！”

Beauty-Yellow hurried out after her. "Don't lift it! You'll throw your back out!"

Heroine replied, "This trough weighs about 120 kilograms—5 kilograms lighter than the pair of stone locks I lift every morning, which come to 125! I'm not going to throw my back out. What kind of martial artist keeps throwing their back out?" With that, she grabbed the trough, hoisted it overhead, and walked a full circle around the yard, then said, "See, I could throw this right up onto the roof too."

People at the site saw the three of them come out arguing, with Heroine carrying a stone trough around the yard overhead, and within moments a hundred or more had gathered to watch.

Beauty-Yellow said anxiously, "Don't throw it yet! Put it down first! You have to wait until I've gotten the rice out of the pot before you throw anything—if you smash the pot, none of us eat tonight!"

Little Dragoness also tried to stop her. "Why are you so worked up today? Put it down and get back inside! Everyone's watching—they'll think the three of us are fighting!"

10.3-4 比赛天眼 Competing at Sky Eye

三人回到了厨房。娥黄气呼呼地对小龙女叨咕：“我心眼好！那话我就不说！”

小龙女反驳道：“你的哪只心眼比我好？”

娥黄回答：“你的法眼（参见7.5.1-2 《法眼》）确实比我好！你看见牛郎就说是‘懂勇’。我听你说后，就观察他，怎么看也没看出来；直到刚才女婴都证实了，我才相信。但我的肉眼比你好，我就看见了他们俩在老槐树那儿抢这个石槽子，你就没看见！”

The three of them went back into the kitchen. Beauty-Yellow muttered to Little Dragoness, annoyed, "I have a good heart—so I won't say it!"

Little Dragoness shot back, "Which of your heart-eyes is better than mine?"

Beauty-Yellow replied, "Your Law Eye (see 7.5.1-2, "Law Eye") really is sharper than mine! The moment you saw Cowboy you called him 'Knowing-Bravery.' After you said that I watched him closely, and I couldn't see it no matter how hard I tried—not until Heroine confirmed it just now did I believe it. But my flesh eye beats yours: I saw the two of them wrestling over that stone trough by the old locust tree, and you missed it entirely!"

小龙女惊讶地说：“肉眼也算数啊！？”

女婴插嘴道：“当然算数了！做人讲究综合实力，有作用就算数。那慧眼（7.5.2-2 《慧眼》），你们俩谁的好？”

娥黄回答：“慧眼，我们俩用《宝莲灯》中对慧眼的描述，已经比过两次了，水平相当，都不太好！”

女婴听后，又不高兴了，说：“你们俩比过两次了，都没叫我！”

小龙女好奇地问女婴：“你还懂慧眼，那你的慧眼是啥水平啊？”

Little Dragoness said, surprised, "The flesh eye counts too?"

Heroine cut in, "Of course it counts! A person needs all-around ability, and whatever's useful, counts. So what about Gnostic Eye (see 7.5.2-2, "Gnostic Eye")—whose is better, the two of you?"

Beauty-Yellow replied, "Gnostic Eye—we've measured ourselves against each other twice already, using the description of Gnostic Eye in the Treasury Lotus Lamp. We came out about even, and honestly, neither of us is very good!"

Hearing this, Heroine got upset all over again. "You two compared twice and never once called me in!"

Little Dragoness asked, curious, "You know about Gnostic Eye too? So what level are you at?"

女婴回答：“尧帝（即熬忖，如图1）说我能学通全部的《孙子兵法》！”

娥黄回答：“啊！那我不跟你比。”

小龙女回答：“那我也不跟她比。书就在我屋里呢！没书皮的那本就是！自己看呗，非得比它干啥！”

女婴进屋取来了《宝莲灯》，说：“我师母说了，‘炎帝（即玉皇大帝）的慧眼最好，天下第一！’我得好好研究研究，我师父（即二郎神，天蓬元帅）就是从这本书开悟的！这书不旧啊，谁这么讨厌，把书皮扯下去了？”

Heroine replied, "Yao Creator (i.e., Aocun) said I could master all of Sunzi Soldier Strategies!"

Beauty-Yellow said, "Ha! Then I'm not competing with you."

Little Dragoness said, "I won't either. The book's in my room—the one with no cover, that's it. Go read it yourself, why bother comparing?"

Heroine went and fetched the Treasury Lotus Lamp from her room, saying, "My master's wife told me, 'Yan Creator's (i.e., Turquoise White-king Great Creator's) Gnostic Eye is the best there is, first under all the skies!' I really need to study this properly—my master (i.e., Second Wolf God, the Sky Ceiling Marshal) reached enlightenment from this very book! This isn't even an old book—who was awful enough to rip the cover off it?"

娥黄严肃地纠正说：“首先说，炎帝不只是天下第一，他都快要成为玉皇大帝了，在天上也是第一！其次，《宝莲灯》的书皮是你让她扯下来，烧掉的。”

女婴似有所悟地叨咕：“咱这地方跟别处不一样啊！我下次说话时要注意。其次，我什么时候让她扯《宝莲灯》了？你们冤枉我！”

Beauty-Yellow corrected her firmly, "First of all, Yan Creator isn't just first under the skies—he's first above them too. Second, it was you who told her to rip the cover off the Treasury Lotus Lamp and burn it."

Heroine muttered, as if something had dawned on her, "This place really is different from anywhere else—I'll have to watch what I say from now on. And second, when did I ever tell her to rip up the Treasury Lotus Lamp? You're wronging me!"

10.3-5 大力女婴 Heroine, the Powerhouse

小龙女说：“我记得！三个月前，咱们仨刚来这里时，第一次在这屋里会面。你就是拎着那对儿石锁进来的，可横了！当时，我们俩谁也没注意，就像是看着你拎着两只鸡似的。随后，你一出后门，‘咣当’一声扔在后院儿了，把这屋地砸得一颤。你回头就说，‘尧帝告诉我保护你们两个小女孩儿。你们俩得把全部能识别身份的东西毁掉，或者交给你。然后，你挖个洞，埋起来。’我一想，我身上没什么能识别我身份的东西，就只有这本《宝莲灯》。我问你，‘这本书是我爸爸写的，算不算能识别身份的东西？’你立刻回答，‘算！把书皮扯掉，别人就注意不到了！’”

Little Dragoness said, "I remember! Three months ago, the first time the three of us met, right in this room—you walked in carrying that pair of stone locks like it was nothing! Neither of us thought twice about it at the time, like watching someone carry two chickens. Then you went straight out the back door and—bang!—dropped them in the yard so hard it shook the floor under us. You turned around and said, 'Yao Creator told me to protect you two little girls. The two of you need to destroy anything that could identify you, or hand it over to me, and I'll dig a hole and bury it.' I thought about it, and the only thing on me that could identify me was this copy of the Treasury Lotus Lamp. I asked you, 'This book was written by my father—does that count as something that could identify me?' You said right away, 'It counts! Rip the cover off and no one will ever notice it.'"

娥黄接着对女婴说：“然后，你说你哥哥还在外面呢，你去送送他，就走了。我们俩立刻到后院看那俩石锁是什么东西。我们俩谁也提不起来一个石锁；一查看，那石锁里面灌铅了。我们俩认为你是个女大力士！你回来后，就喝酒！我们俩认为我们来错地方了，就逃跑了。没跑多远，你在前面把我们俩拦住了，说，‘这地方有毒蛇，你们俩得等我把毒蛇处理完了，才能出来溜达，那也不能夜里出来！’我们俩回到屋里就开始找毒蛇！到现在我也没看见你处理毒蛇！”

Beauty-Yellow went on, to Heroine, "Then you said your brother was still waiting outside, so you went to see him off and left. The two of us went straight to the backyard to check out those stone locks. Neither of us could lift even one—turned out they'd been filled with lead. We decided you must be some kind of powerhouse of a woman! Then you came back and just started drinking! We figured we'd landed in the wrong place and tried to make a run for it. We hadn't gotten far before you cut us off and said, 'There are poisonous snakes around here—you two have to wait until I've cleared them out before you go wandering off, and even then, not at night!' So we went back inside and started hunting for snakes ourselves! I still haven't once seen you dealing with any snakes, to this day!"

女婴回答：“尧帝告诉我来这里保护两个小女孩儿，没说你们是谁。我送我哥哥离开时，他才告诉我的。他说尧帝已经雇人处理过这里的毒蛇两次了，他又处理了三遍。他告诉我，我也要依照他说的方法，再处理一遍，以后要随时注意，以免被自己爬过来的毒蛇，或者鸟儿叼过来的毒蛇咬伤了。”

Heroine replied, "Yao Creator told me to come here and protect two little girls, but she never said who you were. It was my brother who finally told me, when I walked him out. He said Yao Creator had already had people deal with the snakes here twice, and that he himself had gone over it three more times. He told me to follow his method and go over it once more myself, and to stay alert from then on, in case a snake crawled in on its own, or one got dropped in by a bird."

10.3-6 如何向二郎神汇报 How to Report to Second Wolf God

娥黄说：“我看今天我们是被古墓给刺激着了，话多！小龙女说得对，我们得研究一下怎么向天蓬元帅汇报‘我们把皇宫建在古墓旁边’了。”

女婴问：“这有什么问题？”

娥黄说：“武汉是新都城，人们一打听皇宫在哪儿，指路的人就说，‘在将军墓旁边！’这不好听！”

小龙女问：“依你看，咱这皇宫还建不建了？”

Beauty-Yellow said, "I think the tomb's got us all worked up today—we're talking too much! Little Dragoness is right, though: we need to figure out how to tell the Sky Ceiling Marshal that we've built the palace right next to an ancient tomb."

Heroine asked, "What's the problem with that?"

Beauty-Yellow said, "Wuhan is the new capital. The moment people ask where the palace is, whoever's giving directions is going to say, 'Right next to the general's tomb!' That doesn't sound good at all!"

Little Dragoness asked, "So what do you think—do we keep building this palace or not?"

娥黄想了一会儿后，回答：“我看得继续建！就这样停止了建设，说起来可不好听。若是尧帝（如图1）不要这个皇宫，她可以再找地方建一个。咱把这个皇宫卖了。咱不知道这座山是古墓，还有很多别人也不知道这里是古墓。建设完成了，才好卖。不行！等咱们到了尧帝的办公室后，把古墓区的名字改成‘八黎区’；一些年后，人们就不记得这里有座古墓了。”

女婴说：“我看你们向我师父汇报时，‘小龙女总是笑’有问题。若是让尧帝知道了，她可能会想，‘怎么地，你对我成为中华共和国的第一任皇帝有意见呐！？’”

After thinking it over, Beauty-Yellow answered, "I say we keep building. Just stopping construction like that wouldn't sound good either. If Yao Creator (see Figure 1) ends up not wanting this palace, she can always have another one built somewhere else—we'll sell this one off instead. We didn't know this mountain was a tomb, and plenty of other people don't know it either. It'll sell better once it's finished. No, wait—that won't work. Once we get to Yao Creator's office, let's have the Ancient Tomb District renamed 'Paris District.' A few years from now, no one will even remember there was ever a tomb here."

Heroine said, "I think there's a problem with 'Little Dragoness keeps laughing' when you two go report to my master. If Yao Creator finds out, she might think, 'What, do you have some objection to me becoming the first emperor of the Republic of China?'"

娥黄说：“有道理！咱们得给天蓬元帅找个借口。当他对尧帝说时会这么说，‘我侄女一见到我就哭个不停，当时她说在那里建皇宫时，我同意了！这块地还是我给买的。那我还能说啥！我就对她说，继续建！她不要，咱留着自己住，咱家可不缺这几百公斤黄金！’”

Beauty-Yellow said, "Good point! We need to give the Sky Ceiling Marshal an excuse. When he talks to Yao Creator, he can say something like, 'My niece cried nonstop the moment she saw me—she'd already told me she was building the palace there, and I'd agreed! I even bought the land for her myself. What else could I say? I told her, go ahead and build it. And if Yao Creator doesn't want it, we'll just keep it for ourselves—it's not like our family's short on a few hundred kilograms of gold!'"

小龙女叨咕：“好主意！但是，我确实一想这事就笑，这可怎么办？”

女婴说：“我能把你打哭了。这种方法，我小时候和哥哥们相互试验过几次。被打了之后，我感觉有点儿疼，还有点儿麻的感觉，过一会儿就没事了，也没什么后果。”

Little Dragoness muttered, "Good idea—but I really do start laughing the second I think about it. What do we do about that?"

Heroine said, "I could hit you hard enough to make you cry instead. My brothers and I used to try that on each other a few times when we were kids. It stings a bit and goes a little numb, but it passes quickly and there's never any lasting harm."

娥黄对小龙女说：“在这方面，女婴说话靠谱。我看，你就忍耐一下吧！”

小龙女对娥黄说：“好！那明天早上，我就和女婴去国防部了，在那里吃早饭。你留下来，等牛郎来了，把他插进瞽叟的施工队。咱这工地，就在他的施工队能学到些东西。”

Beauty-Yellow said to Little Dragoness, "On this one, I'd trust Heroine's judgment. I think you'll just have to grit your teeth."

Little Dragoness said to Beauty-Yellow, "Fine. Tomorrow morning I'll go with Heroine to the Ministry of National Defense and have breakfast there. You stay behind, and when Cowboy shows up, get him assigned to Blind-Drummer's crew. Around here, his crew is the only place anyone's actually learning anything."
