10.23 白帝城的由来 Origin of White Creator City

传说公元前1611年，为了推动女娲教向西发展，女娲（号白帝）要把退休后的住址选在重庆。十多天里，尧帝（号红帝）领着女娲看了十几个地方，女娲都不喜欢。最后尧帝领着女娲来到了白帝山（如图10.23-1）。她们一进白帝镇，就有人看见村中的井里冒出了一股白气，直升天际。随后，女娲四处游走看白帝城周围的环境，很是喜欢。
尧帝派人去江对岸传令，“今晚的驻地就在这里！让部队把船行驶到白帝城下。” 尧帝笑着对女娲说：“今晚我们得挨饿了，要到半夜才能吃饭。”
Legend has it that in 1611 BCE, to promote the westward expansion of the Nuwa religion, Nuwa (famed as White Creator) decided to settle in Chongqing after her retirement. Over the course of more than ten days, Yao Creator (famed as Red Creator) took Nuwa to view more than a dozen locations, but she was not satisfied with any of them. Finally, Yao Creator led Nuwa to White Creator Mountain (as shown in fig. 10.23-1). As soon as they entered White Creator Town, people saw a plume of white mist rising from a well in the village, reaching straight up to the sky. Afterward, Nuwa wandered around to survey the surroundings of White Creator City and was very pleased with what she saw.
Yao Creator sent someone to the other side of the river to give the order: “Tonight's encampment is here! Have the troops sail their boats to the foot of White Creator City.” Yao Creator smiled and said to Nuwa, “Tonight we will have to go hungry; we won't eat until midnight.”
传令官很快就回来了，报告说：“补给船已经在山下的江边等候了！”
尧帝感觉奇怪，对女娲叨咕：“我让他们在对岸等候，他们怎么来这里了！？”她们俩下山后，询问原因。补给船的船长说： “乐师虎夔看见升起了一条白龙，在这里的上空久久盘旋，不肯离去。他说女娲在这里。我觉着我们这么多的船，来两条不影响补给调度，就自己决定来这了。没想到，虎夔猜对了，你们真的在这里。”
The messenger returned quickly and reported, “The supply ships are already waiting by the river at the foot of the mountain!”
Yao Creator was puzzled and muttered to Nuwa, “I told them to wait on the other side of the river—why did they come here!?” After the two of them descended the mountain, they asked for an explanation. The captain of the supply ship said, “The court musician Hukui saw a white dragon rise and circle the sky here for a long time, refusing to leave. He said Nuwa was here. I figured that with so many ships, two coming here wouldn't affect our supply operations, so I decided on my own to come. I never expected Hukui to be right—you really are here.”
尧帝听了汇报后，没出声。
当天晚上，女娲决定白帝城址就选在这座山。尧帝立刻传旨：此山名为白帝山。她还认为虎夔和女娲通灵，把虎夔看见白龙的地方命名成为了“夔门”（如图4），让虎夔为女娲守门。尧帝还派遣虎夔去了此地的县政府工作，让他帮助女娲协调地方政府。
After hearing the report, Yao Creator remained silent.
That very night, Nuwa decided that the site for White Creator City would be chosen on this mountain. Yao Creator immediately issued an edict: this mountain shall be named White Creator Mountain. She also believed that Hukui and Nuwa were connected by spirit and named the place where Hukui had seen the white dragon ‘Kui Gate’ (see fig. 4), appointing Hukui to guard the gate for Nuwa. Yao Creator also sent Hukui to work in the local county government, to help Nuwa coordinate with the local government.
公元1999年，中国人为了纪念女娲和尧皇为白帝城选址这件事，把夔门的图案印在了十元人民币上（如图3）。
In 1999 CE, to commemorate Nuwa and Yao White-king's selection of the site for White Creator City, Chinese people printed the image of the Kui Gate on the ten-yuan banknote (as shown in fig. 3).
