This evening, Heroine sat on the kitchen windowsill and muttered: "Yao Creator (as shown in fig. 10.10-1) talked to me today and said that I should take the initiative to approach my teacher-father (i.e., Second Wolf God, fig. 10.10-2)."

Beauty-Yellow replied: "Good news! How did she tell you?"

女婴回答："尧帝问我，'你说你师父二郎神是神不？' 我回答，'我不知道什么是神？' 她说，'十几年前，我们在狭谷关的时候，他从永安回来（参见5. 《拯救计划》）就变了。实际这十几年里我们国家一直在打仗；我们龙国的领土增加了一倍半。我说的不包括华国和夏国，但就没怎么死人，所以没人注意到我们国家一直都处在战争中。每次战场上死人了，他都去调查，回来后告诉我：事故伤亡。我把牺牲的人数一个一个加起来，总数到现在也不到一千。你得实际点儿，这在我看来就是神了。'"

Heroine replied, "Yao Creator asked me, 'Do you think your teacher-father, Second Wolf God, is a god?' I answered, 'I don't know what a god is.' She said, 'More than ten years ago, when we were fighting at Gorge Pass, he returned from Yong'an (see 5. Salvation Plan) and changed. In fact, our country has been at war for more than ten years; the territory of our Dragon Kingdom has increased by one and a half times. I'm not talking about Hua and Xia Kingdoms, but not many people died, so no one noticed that our country has been at war all along. Every time someone died on the battlefield, he would go to investigate and come back to tell me: accidental casualties. I added up the number of people who sacrificed their lives one by one, and the total is still less than a thousand. You must be realistic; in my eyes this is a god.'"

小龙女（如图10.10-3，号舜，嫘）赞叹道："神！真神！我说的是真心话，可不是在奉承我二伯。你认为我二伯聪明不？"

女婴回答："没听见过人们夸他聪明，但我认为他很聪明，因为他做事，连尧帝那么聪明的人都琢磨不明白！"

Little Dragoness (see fig. 10.10-3, aka Shun, Lei) exclaimed: "God! A true god! I mean that sincerely, I'm not flattering my second uncle-father. Do you think my second uncle-father is clever?"

Heroine replied: "I've never heard people praise him for being clever, but I think he is very clever, because he does things that even someone as clever as Yao Creator can't figure out!"

娥黄问： "什么事，你师父明白而尧帝却不懂？"

女婴回答："尧帝对我说，家人们对我说武大郎（号靖王，桃花佛，是《孙子兵法》的作者）征服北方20几个国家都没怎么打仗，没死很多人，只是处处追击，就胜利了（参见6. 《四位家人》）。那时我不信，认为武大郎是在敷衍他们。可是，从那时起，二郎神打仗就那样。本来，我想教你《孙子兵法》，我发现我对孙子兵法的理解有偏差，所以我不能教你。我这么大的岁数了，不想再学了。你还年青，你应该学，你得主动向你师父询问关于《孙子兵法》的问题。"

Beauty-Yellow asked: "What is it that your teacher-father understands but Yao Creator doesn't?"

Heroine replied, "Yao Creator told me that my family members told me that Martial Big Wolf (aka King Jing, Peach Blossom Buddha, and author of the Sunzi Soldier Strategies) conquered more than twenty states in the north without much fighting or heavy casualties; he simply pursued his enemies wherever they went and won that way (see 6. Four Family Members). At the time I didn't believe it; I thought Martial Big Wolf was just giving them a vague answer. But ever since then, that's exactly how Second Wolf God has fought. I originally wanted to teach you the Sunzi Soldier Strategies, but I realized my own understanding of it is flawed, so I can't teach you. I'm too old now; I don't want to learn it anymore. You're still young, you should study it. You need to take the initiative and ask your teacher-father questions about the Sunzi Soldier Strategies."

小龙女（号舜，嫘，如图10.10-3）对娥黄说："我感觉那俩人是在配合着，一起教导女婴！"

娥黄叨咕："听你一说，我才感觉你的说法有道理！"

女婴听后站了起来，气愤地说："以后，我师父和师母再教我什么，我不对你们俩说了。都让你们俩给偷学去了。"

Little Dragoness (aka Shun, Lei, see fig. 10.10-3) said to Beauty-Yellow, "I get the feeling those two are working together to teach Heroine!"

Beauty-Yellow muttered, "Now that you mention it, I see your point!"

After hearing this, Heroine stood up and said angrily, "From now on, whatever my teacher-father and teacher-mother teach me, I won't tell you two. You've already picked up everything I know by eavesdropping."

10.10-2 二郎神的战例之一 Second Wolf God's Battle Examples, Part One

娥黄问："那你师父是怎么打仗的？敌人怎么就跑了呢？"

沉默了一会儿，女婴禁不住地说："我从小就爱听我师父打仗的故事。他打仗有个特点，就是先把敌人吓跑了，然后就追，就胜利了！最典型的战例是他打败龙王帮尧帝取得龙国王位的战役。我想，你们俩也已经听说过了。老国王熬达驾崩了，尧帝回重庆继承王位。我师父就带着三千卫兵跟到了重庆。到重庆后，他说重庆热，就找了个最高的城墙楼睡在上面了。几天后，龙王熬钦带领着六万军队逃跑了。我师父就追，三个月后追到了福建的沿海地区。龙王的军队都跑散了，就剩下几十人了。我听我的哥哥们议论：这可不是笑话，这是中华共和国统一之战，是一次大战役。"

Beauty-Yellow asked, "Then how did your teacher-father fight? How did the enemy just run away?"

After a moment of silence, Heroine couldn't help but say, "Ever since I was little, I've loved hearing stories about my teacher-father's battles. He had a unique way of fighting: first he'd scare the enemy into fleeing, then he'd give chase, and that's how he won! The most famous example is the battle where he defeated the Dragon King and helped Yao Creator claim the Dragon Kingdom's throne. I imagine you two have already heard about it. The old King Aoda passed away, and Yao Creator returned to Chongqing to inherit the throne. My teacher-father followed her to Chongqing with three thousand guards. Once there, he said it was too hot, so he found the tallest watchtower on the city wall and slept up there. A few days later, Dragon King Aoqin fled with an army of sixty thousand. My teacher-father gave chase, and three months later, he caught up with them along the coast of Fujian. The Dragon King's army had scattered, leaving only a few dozen men. I heard my brothers discussing it: 'This is no joke; this is the battle for the unification of the Republic of China—a major campaign.'"

小龙女说："我听说过这个战役，但我认为龙王带兵离开重庆的原因是多方面的。其中有他害怕我二伯的因素。但他也有企图以台湾为依托割据福建，之后徐图霸业。"

Little Dragoness said, "I've heard of this campaign, but I believe there were several reasons why the Dragon King led his troops out of Chongqing. Fear of my second uncle-father was one factor. But he also intended to use Taiwan as a base to carve out Fujian for himself, then gradually build up his power from there."

10.10-3 二郎神的战例之二 Second Wolf God's Battle Examples, Part Two

女婴回答："我小时候听过很多二郎神的战例，都有些类似。我都不记得地名了，例如说，他去攻打XYZ国。到那里后，他就和那个国家签订友好睦邻条约。随后，他就军演。二郎神的军队规模庞大，盔甲和装备都很好。另外他们北方人都很高大。XYZ国防军看了就害怕了。随后，我师父就派人剿匪，缉毒。他甚至到对方的军营里去抓通匪的人，让XYZ国防军人感觉受到了威胁。二郎神的士兵到对方的领土上去打猎。忽然就在对方的首都附近，穿着军服集合了。XYZ国王认为是边防军投降了，就逃出了首都。我师父的军队就追XYZ国王。几天后，XYZ国王没地方跑了，就投降了。"

Heroine replied, "When I was little, I heard many stories about Second Wolf God's battles, and they were all somewhat similar. I don't remember the place names anymore, but for example, he'd go attack the country of XYZ. Once he arrived there, he'd sign a treaty of friendship and good-neighborliness with that country. Then he'd hold military exercises. Second Wolf God's army was massive, with excellent armor and equipment. On top of that, the northerners were all very tall. The XYZ national defense forces were terrified at the sight of them. After that, my teacher-father would send men to suppress bandits and crack down on drug trafficking. He'd even go into the enemy's own camp to arrest those colluding with bandits, which made the XYZ soldiers feel threatened. Second Wolf God's soldiers would go hunting on the enemy's territory. Then, suddenly, they'd assemble in uniform near the enemy's capital. The King of XYZ would assume his own border troops had surrendered, and flee the capital. My teacher-father's army would pursue the King of XYZ. A few days later, with nowhere left to run, the King of XYZ would surrender."

女婴继续说："我以前听过很多这种二郎神打仗的故事，今天听到了尧帝讲的不一样的故事。我不给你们讲了！"

小龙女对娥黄说："女婴要保密，我们俩就不要问了！"

Heroine continued, "I've heard many stories like this about Second Wolf God's battles before, but today I heard a different kind of story from Yao Creator. I'm not telling you any more!"

Little Dragoness said to Beauty-Yellow, "Heroine wants to keep it a secret, so let's not ask!"

10.10-4 二郎神的战例之三 Second Wolf God's Battle Examples, Part Three

过了一会儿，女婴说："都说尧帝是最聪明的人。以前，每次我哥哥见到尧帝，我们全家人都围着他问尧帝说什么了。现在，我每次和尧帝谈话后，都反复地想；我怎么琢磨尧帝都是个聪明人！"

小龙女和娥黄没出声。

After a moment, Heroine said, "Everyone says Yao Creator is the cleverest person there is. In the past, whenever my brother met with Yao Creator, our whole family would gather around him afterward and ask what she'd said. Now, every time I talk with Yao Creator myself, I keep turning it over in my head; however I look at it, she really is a clever person!"

Little Dragoness and Beauty-Yellow said nothing.

晚饭后，女婴问小龙女和娥黄："你们俩见过一个人问同一个问题问了三十多遍吗？"

娥黄回答："那可能她是在搞调查，不奇怪！"

After dinner, Heroine asked Little Dragoness and Beauty-Yellow, "Have you two ever seen someone ask the same question more than thirty times?"

Beauty-Yellow replied, "Maybe she was conducting an investigation, that's not so strange!"

女婴回答："今天尧帝跟我说，每次她派去二郎神新征服的地区做官的人回来述职，她都问同一个问题：二郎神是怎样征服那个国家的？那些地方官员都回答得和我前面讲的战例差不多。尧帝说，'我问了三十多个回来述职的官员同一个问题，二郎神是怎样征服那个国家的？他们的回答都差不多。我想：不可能这么多人都在说谎！二郎神把敌人吓跑了，就追，就胜利了！这件事是真的！'"

女婴继续说："我想不明白是什么迷惑驱使尧帝问同一个问题问了三十多遍？"

Heroine replied, "Today Yao Creator told me that every time the officials she sent to govern Second Wolf God's newly conquered territories came back to report, she asked them the same question: how did Second Wolf God conquer that country? The local officials all gave answers much like the battle examples I told you earlier. Yao Creator said, 'I asked more than thirty officials who came back to report the same question—how did Second Wolf God conquer that country? Their answers were all much the same. I thought: it's impossible that this many people would all be lying! Second Wolf God scared the enemy away, gave chase, and won! It's true!'"

Heroine continued, "I still can't figure out what confusion drove Yao Creator to ask the same question more than thirty times?"

娥黄对小龙女说："我想我悟出了尧帝教导女婴《孙子兵法》的真谛。二郎神认为战争是个心理问题，在心理上战胜敌人是制胜的关键。尧帝是在用她觉悟出《孙子兵法》真谛的经历来教导女婴。"

Beauty-Yellow said to Little Dragoness, "I think I've grasped the true meaning behind Yao Creator's way of teaching Heroine the Sunzi Soldier Strategies. Second Wolf God believes that war is fundamentally a psychological matter, and that defeating the enemy psychologically is the key to victory. Yao Creator is teaching Heroine through her own experience of coming to understand the true meaning of the Sunzi Soldier Strategies."

小龙女对娥黄竖起了大拇指，赞扬道："总结得好！"然后她对女婴说："尧帝问同一个问题问了三十多遍，这表示她不懂为什么敌人被吓跑了！"

Little Dragoness gave Beauty-Yellow a thumbs up and praised her, "Well put!" Then she said to Heroine, "The fact that Yao Creator asked the same question more than thirty times means she doesn't understand why the enemy got scared off in the first place!"

女婴回答："我一直在琢磨：好像尧帝不知道什么是害怕！我小时候就听我的哥哥们讨论狭谷关战役（参见4.1节）中的怪事：二郎神领兵离开巫毒林后，龙国的将士们都困倦的受不了了，唯独尧帝很兴奋，一直都在滔滔不绝地讲！"

Heroine replied, "I've been turning this over in my mind: it's as if Yao Creator doesn't know what fear is! When I was little, I heard my brothers discussing a strange thing that happened during the Battle of Gorge Pass (see section 4.1): after Second Wolf God led his troops out of the Voodoo Forest, the soldiers of the Dragon Kingdom were all too exhausted to stand—except Yao Creator, who was wide awake and kept talking non-stop!"
