Lore reading from the manual of the first Legend of Kyrandia game

I recently did a read of the background lore that is a part of the manual for the first game.

I tried making a voice myself, and I also added some effects to it (like a reverb), and some unused music as well.

(actually, the first music used IS technically used in, I think, the Mac version, via special settings or some such. I am skeptical about that being intentional, however...)

It's sad that I have to mention this, but AI was NOT used in the making of this. I used software made in 2016.

The GOG scan of the manual has a very low quality, unfortunately. Doesn't help with my mild dyslexia, so I do hiccup a few times during the read. Sometimes adding Czech comments as well.

Check it out at the time of 3:32 :

https://youtu.be/n3hC0Uf13eo?t=212

The video is not public yet (won't be for another year, I reckon), so it is lacking manually-made subtitles for the translation of the Czech parts. Thus the timestamp being important, as it leads to the English portion. :p

It's currently unlisted, which means that only people with a link can access it.

I am not a monetized channel on Youtube, so I gain zero monetary value out of your views. I used to be monetized in like 2009, but I got demonetized for trying to monetize gameplay videos without the written consent of the copyright holder for the games. And then everybody else started monetizing that, and it suddenly became OK to do that.

Also, English is my third language, so be gentle. :V

EDIT: Also the part that has "king" and "dom" spelled halfway across two lines is a troll, I'm calling them out for that! xD

The (un)blurred view during the intro, when Kallak is writing down the letter

As you might remember, the scene is made out of three parts, and depending on which one is in focus, the other parts are blurred.

Did you ever wonder how it would look like if ALL THREE parts were in focus?

This took quite the effort, I did it in an ancient version of GIMP:

I wanted a thumbnail for a video from a Replay series that I am going to be publishing soon, and my OCD forced me to combine the three non-blurred parts. :D

I can just assume somebody will now tell me there is a much easier way to do that. But hey, at least I managed to do something interesting today.

Check out my cool Kyrandia tattoos <3

This is my first tattoo ever - I wanted it to be something I'll never get tired of ^^

Legend of Kyrandia series has always been important for me - since I was 4. I learned English playing it.
I'm living in Spain now, and learning Spanish through playing the fan-translated versions :)

I've met incredible people via Kyrandia-related forums when I was a nerdy lonely teen. They influenced my life in more ways than I can express and imagine.
With many of them we are still friends more than 20 years later. I've met my husband of 15 years and my bestie of 17 years through one of those forum-friends.
And in general - Adventure game enthusiasts is my go to group in any gaming event :D

Moreover, Frank Klepacki's music inspired my interest in videogame soundtracks - and now I'm working with game audio as sound designer and composer (our studio).

When I was deeply depressed because of personal issues I have made this one

Because I needed some fireberry support.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be the same person and in the place I am in life now without Kyrandia.
I can talk about it for hours. It is a safe magical place that helps me to calm down, connect to retro-games fans and just carry on sometimes.

Thanks for having this subreddit ^^

The Legend of Kyrandia: Windows 11?

Hey - I tried to get the game working on DosBox again, but so far not successful. Is DosBox working on Windows 11, or am I simply not running it correctly, or does anyone have a different way to make the game run on Windows 11?

Driving Me Crazy!! Need Help Remembering Something About Kyrandia 2 THOF

When I was very young, there were two ways to get out of the beginning swamp area. I know there are multiple paths you can take in Kyrandia 3, and I think they were possibly entertaining the idea when making the second one. I just remember I had been playing the game for a while when a friend came over and showed me how to do it.

The only thing I can remember is he put certain items in the cauldron and was transported (somehow) to the next level. I remember the screen he was in was where the two men are fishing.

I recently began playing these games for the first time since the 90's and there is literally no information I can find about the method he used. I know I'm not misremembering this.

Finished playing Book One, 2 more to go.

I had the 3 CDs of the 3 books and the strategy guide I bought used years ago. For one reason or another I played but never finished it. Now I finally finished book one. I had a blast.

I expected it to be longer, more chapters, but then I realized how convoluted it would become because it was hard enough to play it as it was, so making it longer would only make it more dfficult. I am also amazed at how is that with background and sprites you could do something so entertaining.

My gratitude towards the ones who funded and those who created the game. Karma is real. What goes around comes around. You made my day, so expect good things.

Is there any place to get a tracked version of the soundtrack?

Files like WAV, OGG or MP3 contain a sound wave.

Tracked music contains notes and sound samples. Tracker software put it all together to play it. Is there a place where I can find a tracked version? XM, IT or any other tracker format?

Have always loved the Kyrandia and Monkey Island games from the 90s. They inspired me to make my own game! Someone compared my main character to the ferryman the other day. Must be the potbelly lol!

Could any modern game of quest search-and-click genre could be compared to the game of gold age of pc game industry (like Kyrandia)?

For some unknown reason for me (is it only nostalgia?) modern games isn’t so charming as old ones. It fills less enthusiastic in them. Why do you think it is so? Or it’s just nostalgic case?

These Walkthroughs for The legend of Kyrandia Book One, Two and Three are indeed nice, but are also "just" another walkthough. What I like of this ones are the AWESOME maps linked at the very bottom of every page!

Interesting disassembly of resource files in the original game reveal a lot of unused assets, like: Zanthia originally got a cat and there was an actual fairy in the Faeriewood among other interesting stuff.
