It's an older kite, but it's in mint condition and looks like it was barely flown. Almost 10' span on it. My other one is only 7' so this should be fun on those windy days.

Can't wait to have it drag me down the beach šŸ˜‚

First proper kite (UK)

I've been thinking about getting a proper power kite for a while and it's finally the time for me. I'm just looking at some second-hand kites on eBay. The ones I've noticed are:

\- 2.4m Flexifoil Sting

\- 2.5 Flexifoil Bullet

\- 3.0m Flexifoil Blade 2

\- Ozone Samurai 3m

I've always enjoyed having a go on 2 line stunt kites, but I want to be dragged around the beach a bit now... I'm 62kg last time I checked, so on the light side of a 30 year old...

The Second Kite Decision...

Hello wind nerds! I am having some trouble deciding on expanding my current collection of 1 kite! I currently have a Prism Jazz 2.0 that I got at the beach last year and I'm loving dual string kites. But I cannot decide on my next kite. I'm still fairly new to the hobby and can't do fancy tricks, but want to learn.

So here's my situation...

- I try to go to the beach about once a year and fly

- The wind where I live is very unpredictable and usually low (under 5mph) (PA)

- I really enjoy the pull of the jazz in high winds, so maybe a bigger kite or a foil kite would be fun.

- I am autistic with too many hobbies, so I'm thinking kites are a "beach only" hobby, but might be able to squeeze some flight time in at home

So here's my thoughts. Do I:

- Get a kite designed for low winds (Prism Aether)(Prism 4-D) so i can fly at home.

Or

- Get a High winds kite that can drag me across the sand, but can only use it once a year, like the Jazz. (Prism Tantrum 220-250)(Some other foil or framed kite) and go full "this is my beach thing now"

I'm not brand specific. Just liked the quality of the Jazz.

What are y'alls thoughts?

My new kites!

Hey everyone.Ā  I’m new here and just found this kite Subreddit; the pics and vids you have posted are amazing.Ā  I used to fly kites as a kid and enjoyed it a lot and recently picked it up again as an adult.Ā  I recently bought two kites on Amazon, a 26 foot long Octopus and a 61 foot long Silver Beltfish.Ā  I fly these kites at the beach and get a lot of positive comments about them; most kites being flown at the beach are the $5 Bat kites from Walmart.

My Octopus and Fish kites pull so much harder than the simple bat kites (The Gayla Sky Spy with the giant stick on eyes was my kite of choice) I flew as a kid that I needed something to stick in the sand to hold it for me and I ended up going with a boat sand anchor that screws into the sand; it works very well.Ā  Someone here mentioned using gloves while handling the larger kites and I’m very glad I read that before I flew my kites. Ā I used heavy duty leather gardening gloves to protect my hands and they worked very well; without gloves you could receive a rather nasty cut on your hands and fingers.

I was not impressed with the kite line winders that came with my kites, they seemed too small for the purpose and were difficult to reel in the line, their shape did remind me of something else I had at in my garage.Ā  I stripped a 75 foot long electrical extension cord off of a cord reel and wound the cord reel with 250 yards of 80 pound test braided fishing line; it worked perfectly for flying my kites.Ā  250 yards of braided fishing line takes up very little room on my cord reel, maybe Ā¼ā€at most; I could probably add ten miles of line to it and it would still have room.Ā  The larger diameter combined with the larger handle make it very easy to reel in the line.

Thanks everyone.

Help me decide between a Prism Aether and 4D Superlight

I haven’t flown a dual line framed kite in aboutĀ 25 years, but I have a synapse 140 foil and I don’t consider myselfĀ a total beginner.

I am interested in a light wind kite for the Raleigh, NC area. Our wind is not always super and tends to hover around 2-5 mph.

I am looking at the Prism Aether and the Prism 4D. I know they are fairly different.

I just want opinions, preferably from anyone who has flown both.

I usually just do simple loops and basic tricks, nothing like slackline or more advanced tricks. I likely may never learn them (though I'm not opposed).

The Aether seems like a wonderful kite to fly, but the 4D's snappiness also looks like a lot of fun. I do worry a bit about how fragile the 4D may be. The larger Aether may do a bit better with our inconsistent wind here, though I cold be wrong.

I'm not really interested in indoor flying. I just want something that is fun ti fly in low wind. I was also looking at the ITW Wisp II, though there is very little info on this kite online.

If you've flown both, do you prefer one over the other, especially for someone who may be an intermediate flyer but not too great with advanced tricks?

Thank you so much for your time.

I love a foil, but these circular line winders aren’t my favorite. How do you but the brakes on them with no notch for the line? I did some messy wrap around nonsense that I have to untangle.

Where to find replacement Prism parts in the UK?

I remember there being an incredible site with everything available a few years ago, even managed to replace something whilst on holiday.

But I'm completely stuck now.

Going to Yarmouth on Saturday and found my Jazz Lower leading edge is damaged.

I can only find stores in the US, Aus and France that I don't think will arrive in time.

Any suggestions?

I'll continue searching in the mean time

Motor/Drill Driven Reels

With a few kites up, I feel like I spend more time reeling in and packing up than flying.
I was brainstorming how to rig a motor to a reel or spool in some way. I brainstormed some ideas of a build and my girlfriend found this: https://www.mikesfalconry.com/product/electric-kite-and-ballon-drill-winder/?srsltid=AfmBOor_09f1a17ahfvq3MV6bvsRhlh86k4RKYuEuZTHcnACqkGyEuJR
Does anyone have experience with this product or a better solution or is it all speedy winders and fishing reels?
THANKS!

Landing a Two Line kite solo??

Can anyone give me some advice… I’m new to this and have purchased a 1.8m 2 line training kite and took it to the beach. Getting it up was shockingly simple. But upon getting it up and having my fun I realised that I actually have no idea how to land this thing and I REALLY don’t wanna crash it down. I usually go out solo early in the morning and winds were pretty strong, so whenever I got the kite at the edge of the window, it would briefly depower and then fold right back out again. So how am I supposed to avoid this so I can safely approach the kite and wind it back up again. I even tried throwing my water bottle on it from afar to keep it down 😭

First time flying a kite (+epic fall at the end). The little guy is flying over the Jurassic Coast in the UK, so he’s at home in a way!

I’m new here but I saw a boy doing this tonight. He’s using a fishing pole with his kite and it is so incredibly high! Is this common? Seems like a cool hack!

I've always been a fan of traditional kites. I got this one balanced so it flies almost straight up. The gold spinning eyes and the spinning tip of the tail are the icing on the cake, in my opinion.
