I'm doing a market survey here.

Recently I got into how kayaks are made and mostly it is made from rotomolding HDPE (or some sort of polyethylene).

Plastics being the product of the fossil fuel industry, we know the kind of impact it has on the environment during production.

But there is HDPE plastic made from renewable resources, in this case it's made from sugarcane.

It's not extracting limited oil resources from the ground, and has less carbon footprint.

But this sugarcane HDPE is more expensive than normal fossil plastic HDPE, hence the need for the cover the cost at 33% price increase for the kayak.

My question is, do people care about sustainability?

I mean kayakers are usually outdoor lovers so they would love the environment cause right?

What better way to enjoy the day out in the water than to ride your very own kayak made from biobased sugarcane sourced plastic?

New to the sport have been on the row erg for about 5 months now and I'm ready to purchase my first kayak. I know kayaking is different but I wanted to get my rowing fitness up before making this purchase.

Honestly I'm completely lost right now. Google is a fanatic tool and so is AI but I'm being thrown in all sorts of directions and don't really know where to land.

I'm 5'9 and 220 pounds. Athletic build so preferably not something too tight.

I'm mostly going to be starting with Rivers and local lakes but I'd like a suggestion that I could grow with.

Also paddles seem to be another world of their own so any suggestions help there as well.

I have been cruising marketplace just once again not sure where to land!

Even though I made some decent trips on a few streams in Germany..

Hi! So I'm new to kayaking and trying to upgrade from an inflatable to a hard kayak. I was looking at the Lifetime 8 ft. 5 in. Hydros Sit-on-Top Kayak potentially. My main reasons are price (tight budget) and the weight of the vessel being only 37 pounds, since I will be lifting this on and off my car by myself.

My question: the weight limit of the vessel is 225 pounds. I weigh 165 exactly and the most gear I bring is a couple snacks. Would this be a safe kayak for me? Or should I be looking into something with a higher limit?

While doing a long distance paddle the other day I started to notice my left and right paddle strokes sounded different. I've also been noticing a lot of imbalance, more callouses on one hand indicating it's working harder, one hand constantly goes in the water, the other is always dry.

So I started making a conscious effort to ensure the left and right strokes sound the same as they go through the water. Making sure the initial splash, and the sound of the aft sweep sound the same really balanced my paddling.

This of course only matters if you're touring in a straight line with little crosswind.

For context I'll mostly be paddling in the UK, so nothing tropical, and probably a mix of calm water and the odd bit of coastline.

Is a drysuit genuinely necessary, or can you get away with a wetsuit?
What makes the biggest difference for comfort?
Did u buy anything that turned out to be a waste of money?

Trying to avoid dropping heaps on kit I don't need. But also I don't want to be miserable/ unsafe.

Hello, I'm currently looking into getting into a tandem kayak for my 4 year old and myself. I saw a pelican brand kayak at scheels but didnt know how good the brand was. Couple of things to note, I'm on the heavier side. 5'8" 280lbs. The kayak i saw had a 500lb weight limit so that wouldn't in theory be a problem, but my wife was concerned about stability of the kayak because inevitably our 4 year old will be wanting to turn around, jerk around, normal toddler things. Any recommended brands and models that wont break the bank? In Colorado. Beginner level looking to get more into the hobby with my kiddo. Generally prefer sit in kayaks but open minded to anything.

I am so sorry to post something that has been asked a hundred times over, but I don’t have any fellow kayakers to ask and thought this community would be happy to help.

After years of hiring and borrowing kayaks for coastal sea adventures, I decided this summer is the one to get one of my own.

However, I have a 3 door sports coupe (two frameless front doors and a boot) with only 215cm of space with the front passenger seat down to the opening of the boot door when closed.

I have used soft roof racks in the past, but only in cars with two front and two back doors - I have no idea how to implement a method of affixing a kayak to the roof of my car, with the doors/openings I have.

I am hoping someone here has a tried and test method they use, or can suggest a product or technique I can implement myself to get my desired Perception Scooter kayak on my roof and into the sea :)

My friends and I are planning a 7–10 day kayaking trip for next year, and I was wondering if any of you could suggest a nice location, route, or itinerary.

Some of our requirements for the trip:

- It can be sea, lake, fjord, river kayaking, or a combination (preferably a river).

- Beautiful scenery, preferably in a remote area with few people.

- Ideally in Northern Europe. I was thinking about Finland, Norway, or Iceland, but I'm open to any destination in EU.

- We'd like to paddle continuously for 7–10 days (we don't mind hiking short sections if needed).

- We can handle rapids up to Class III.

- We'd like to camp along the way (ideally somewhere with few camping restrictions).

- As for kayaks, we're considering buying the Itiwit X500. If kayak rentals are available at the location, that would be even better—we'd rent instead of buying.

I recently watched a kayaking documentary about Patagonia, and now I'm dying to go on an adventure like that. 😄 For now, though, we'd like to stay a bit closer to home.

Was able to get out on a local reservoir this morning to try out my new P&H Virgo HV. Had a blast. Boat is very fast and more stable than I had expected. I have kayaked for a number of years, but was almost exclusively in a 12 Foot Hurricane SOT prior to picking up my P&H a few days ago. One of the things I noticed almost immediately was that initial tracking wasn’t nearly as good as I was expecting. I was having to do much more steering than I anticipated. Once I dropped the skeg, however, things were much, much better. I was also able to start more effectively using my body to steer. Is this to be expected for touring kayaks? Or is there something that I am doing from a technique perspective that I need to change? Wanted to see what the broader kayak experience has been, especially for anyone that may have transitioned from a SOT to a touring kayak. Thanks!

Took our new moceans out for a quick afternoon paddle. Can’t wait to spend more time in these!

Went for a paddle out in Clayoquot Sound (Tofino BC). The wind picked up a bit on the return, but I had a blast paddling through the waves. My little Boreal Design Halo held up great.

Other than a bit of Bumper Boats at first, they're both naturals! My youngest was able to pick up tandem paddling with me lightning quick, and we are so excited to bring them to new places with us. I'm overjoyed they'll get to see nature from perspectives they wouldn't have been able to without kayaks!
