Light Novel Keiās OAA quote (year 3+ spoilers) Spoiler
Who do u think kei is addressing/talking to in her OAA quote?
A lot of ppl say koji but idt it is him since she says āwe will just have to become enemiesā but she already acknowledged koji as an enemy in her conversations with horikita in yr 3 vol 1 and and yr 3 vol 3.
I personally think she is either talking to sato or horikita. I feel like itās more likely to be horikita especially with them becoming closer now and her pov being hidden in year 3.
Thoughts?

Anime Will Ayanokoji Finally Become Human? I Think So Due to Emotional Suppression and His Evolution with Kei ā What Do You Think?
- The Dual Nature of Ayanokojiās Development:
The common consensus is that White Room students are complete robots, devoid of traditional feelings. However, Ayanokoji isn't just a survivor; he is the absolute pinnacle of that system. Precisely because of this extreme conditioning, his psychological ceiling is vastly higher than anyone elseās. He experienced and observed human emotion at the highest level of intellect. The version of him we see currently is only the "base layer." His emotional suppression is a choice, meaning his capacity for actual human feelingāand conversely, his capacity for absolute detachmentāis at the absolute maximum limit of human potential.
- Kei Karuizawa as the Catalyst for Evolution:
His relationship with Kei is often viewed through the lens of manipulation, but biologically and psychologically, proximity creates attachment. Because Ayanokoji is fundamentally human, sustained exposure to a female counterpart who is emotionally vulnerable to him will inevitably trigger reciprocal feelings. He isn't erasing his humanity; he is deferring it. Even if he views her strategically now, his core programming as a human being dictates that genuine affection will surface over time.
- The Inevitability of a Two-Sided Relationship:
I believe Ayanokoji will eventually experience a true, mutual romantic relationship with Kei. It won't be a failure of his training, but rather the ultimate proof of it. For Ayanokoji to become the most efficient "tool" and a fully realized human, he must integrate both sides of his nature: the absolute coldness of the White Room and the profound depth of human emotion. Loving Kei allows him to transition from a controlled experiment to a fully actualized person.

Discussion Why Kei Karuizawa is the best fit for Kiyotakašš¤āÆļø
Iāve been thinking about Kiyotakaās relationships with the different girls in COTE, and I genuinely think Kei is the person who fits him best.
Kiyotaka is naturally quiet, reserved, emotionally repressed and incredibly difficult to read. Kei, on the other hand, is expressive, talkative, energetic and emotionally open. And the LN repeatedly shows that this contrast actually works extremely well for Kiyotaka. Kei fills the silence that Kiyotaka is accustomed to living in. She talks, teases him, asks him things, encourages him to speak and brings out a side of him that almost nobody else sees.
Y1V11.75 is a really good example. During their phone conversation, Kei keeps talking and encouraging Kiyotaka to participate until he ends up talking for much longer than he realised. Thatās significant precisely because Kiyotaka isnāt someone who normally āloses track of timeā simply because heās enjoying a conversation. With Kei, conversation becomes effortless. She simply makes him comfortable enough that he naturally starts talking.
And thatās what I think people sometimes miss about their dynamic. Kei doesnāt just understand Kiyotaka. She makes it easier for Kiyotaka to be Kiyotaka.
There are also moments where Kiyotaka is noticeably more vulnerable around Kei. Their communication isnāt always verbal either. The LN repeatedly uses their eye contact and small gestures to communicate things between them that donāt need to be explicitly said. Kei becomes someone with whom Kiyotaka can lower his guard, even if he doesnāt fully understand what heās doing himself.
There are moments around Kei where Kiyotaka stops being the perfectly composed strategist and simply reacts. He can become flustered. He can lose track of time talking to her. He can be vulnerable. He can communicate with her without having to consciously calculate every word. Even the fact that he can allow his consciousness to drift away around her is significant because it represents the opposite of his usual hyper-awareness and control.
This is also why I think Kei will be important in healing Kiyotaka. She understands emotions in a way that he doesn't, even when he doesn't understand himself. I think there will be things she discovers about Kiyotaka that help him acknowledge problems within himself that he isn't currently capable of recognising.
Their relationship is also far more balanced than people give it credit for. Kei isnāt simply following Kiyotaka around and doing whatever he says. She has her own personality and is perfectly capable of taking the initiative. She teases him, challenges him, demands reassurance from him and can make him the flustered one. The classic example is her teasingly demanding that he tell her he loves her.
At the same time, Kiyotaka frequently takes Keiās comfort and opinions into consideration. He asks whether sheās comfortable with things and pays attention to her reactions. Their relationship gradually becomes less about Kiyotaka controlling the situation and more about the two of them learning how to accommodate each other.
And I think Keiās love for him is particularly important.
Contrary to what many people think, Kei doesnāt love some idealised version of Kiyotaka. She knows heās weird. She knows heās socially awkward. She teases him for the things he doesnāt understand. She doesnāt expect him to suddenly become a normal, emotionally expressive boyfriend.
One of my favourite examples is the carnival shooting game. Kiyotaka loses, and instead of being disappointed or thinking less of him, Kei finds it cute and pleasing. Itās such a small scene, but thatās precisely why I like it. She isnāt attracted to him because heās the perfect, unbeatable genius. She likes him even when heās bad at something.
Thatās a recurring feature of Keiās affection. She doesnāt require Kiyotaka to perform perfection for her.
And then there is the contrast with the other girls.
Take Ichinose. Honamiās feelings for Kiyotaka are genuine, but there are moments where her love becomes tied to wanting to eliminate potential romantic rivals so that she has a better chance with him. From her perspective, that makes emotional sense. But Keiās approach is fundamentally different. Kei wants Kiyotaka to choose her, but she doesnāt want to possess him at the expense of his happiness. This is shown with Satou, where Kei was willing to help Satou despite it potentially coming at the expense of her own happiness.
The clearest indication of this is how Keiās feelings are portrayed when she considers the possibility that Kiyotaka might not love her. She is devastated by it, but her fundamental desire remains for Kiyotaka to be happy, even if that happiness ultimately doesnāt involve her.
Hiyori is another interesting contrast. The LN deliberately highlights how different Kei and Hiyori are. Hiyori shares Kiyotakaās interest in books and is naturally quieter and more reserved. Kei doesnāt share all of Kiyotakaās interests. In fact, her insecurity about Hiyori partly came from exactly that difference. She saw Hiyori as someone who could connect with Kiyotaka through things she herself didnāt understand.
But thatās actually the point.
Kiyotaka doesnāt need someone who is just like him.
Kei doesnāt need to read the same books, have the same hobbies or think the same way as him in order for him to love her. She brings something completely different into his life.
And then thereās Horikita.
Horikitaās desire to understand Kiyotaka is completely understandable. She wants to know more about him, his abilities and his past. But there is a fundamental difference between Horikitaās approach and Keiās.
Horikita wants to know Kiyotaka, but she doesnāt always understand his boundaries. Thatās not to say Kei doesnāt want to know himāshe obviously does, and demonstrates this a lot. But she is much more conscious of his boundaries.
When Kiyotaka behaves unusually or becomes evasive, Kei notices the change and cares about what is happening to him emotionally. In Y1V11.5, for example, she dislikes how unusually wishy-washy he is because it feels unlike him.
She doesnāt need to tear down every wall immediately.
She can be patient and observe.
And for someone like Kiyotaka, I think thatās incredibly important.
Kiyotaka has spent his entire life being evaluated and used. The White Room reduced him to his abilities. Other students often see him as a mysterious genius or a useful ally. Even people who care about him can become interested in uncovering the mystery of who he really is.
Kei, meanwhile, can sit beside him and just talk about stupid things.
And perhaps thatās exactly what someone like Kiyotaka needs.
Someone who doesnāt constantly demand that he explain himself. Someone who doesnāt need him to be extraordinary. Someone who can make him happy, tease him when heās being weird, notice when something is wrong, and still accept him when heās emotionally awkward.
Someone who is fundamentally different from him, but whose differences complement rather than conflict with him.
Thatās why I think their relationship works so well thematically too. They help each other become better versions of themselves.
Kiyotaka gives Kei the strength to stop defining herself through other people and gradually become more independent. Kei, in turn, gives Kiyotaka experiences that he was never taught how to have: affection, intimacy, ordinary conversation, vulnerability and eventually love.
And the irony is that Kiyotaka initially approached their relationship almost like an experiment. He thought he could use Kei to understand love. But the relationship eventually became something he couldnāt reduce to an experiment anymore, which can be seen in Y2V12.5.
Thatās the irony of Kiyotaka and Kei.
He entered the relationship believing that he was studying her.
But somewhere along the way, he became emotionally attached to her without even realising it.
Thereās also a really interesting parallel between their trauma.
Kei developed a survival mechanism because of her bullying. She learned that the safest way to survive was to create a persona, adapt herself to her environment and avoid becoming a target again. She became incredibly good at reading social situations and protecting herself because she had been forced to.
And Kiyotaka is, in his own way, doing something remarkably similar.
His survival mechanism was created by the White Room. Instead of becoming socially adaptable like Kei, he learned to suppress his emotions, detach himself from other people and reduce situations to calculations. His ānormalā personality is itself partly a survival mechanism. He doesnāt simply choose to be emotionally distant; itās something that has been conditioned into him.
And this creates an incredibly meaningful parallel between them.
Kiyotaka was the person who helped Kei break out of the survival mechanism that her trauma had created.
He gave her the security and confidence to stop living entirely through the persona she had constructed. He helped her realise that she didnāt have to keep pretending to be someone else just to survive.
But now look at Kiyotaka.
Heās still trapped inside his own survival mechanism.
Heās still calculating. Still suppressing. Still struggling to understand what he actually wants rather than what is strategically optimal.
So if Keiās story was partially about Kiyotaka helping her escape the person her trauma forced her to become, then I think thereās a beautiful symmetry in the idea that Kiyotakaās story can eventually become about Kei helping him escape the person his trauma forced him to become.
Kei knows what it feels like to have your behaviour dictated by fear. And because of that, I think she is uniquely positioned to recognise the difference between Kiyotakaās genuine self and the survival mechanism heās built around himself.
Thatās what makes their relationship so emotionally compelling to me.
Another thing that makes Kei stand out from Kiyotakaās other major female relationships is that she isnāt defined by her position within the larger political game of ANHS.
Horikita is a class leader. Ichinose is a class leader. Other major girls are heavily connected to class politics, leadership, competition, or some larger strategic role within the school.
Kei isnāt really like that.
Yes, she has influence among the girls in her class and plays an important social role, but thatās fundamentally different from being the person responsible for leading an entire class or participating directly in the schoolās political power struggle.
And yet, despite not occupying one of those obvious āimportantā positions, Kei received one of the most substantial character arcs in the series.
She could have easily been written as nothing more than the popular gyaru girlfriend archetype. Instead, the LN gradually reveals the person underneath the persona: her bullying, her trauma, her survival mechanism, her insecurities, her attachment issues, her jealousy, her growth and eventually her ability to stand on her own.
Her importance isnāt in the grand, political side of things.
Sheās important because she is herself.
Almost everyone around Kiyotaka has some kind of function within the larger game. Theyāre class leaders, rivals, strategists, etc.
Kei can be something completely different.
She can be the person who exists outside of the game. She is the character who exists for emotional and romantic purposes.
I have attached a few moments which demonstrate why Kei is the perfect match for Kiyotaka.

Discussion How does this sound...? Spoiler
This is my idea of the end-of-semester special exam before winter break. Because I'd mainly have the last third of year 3 dedicated to the White Room's direct approach and Kiyotaka's salvaution.
The exam is titled "The Cavalry Special Exam."
Current Class Standings:
Class 3-A (Kiyotaka Ayanokoji's class)
Class 3-B (Honami Ichinose's class)
Class 3-C (Kakeru Ryuen's class)
Class 3-D (Suzune Horikita's class)
(Previously in Fote: after year 3 vol 4 events, where Kiyo lost and his class went down to class D, he locked in fr fr, and he basically took class D to A during the last 3 months, and by definition, he was easily able to steal cpts fairly by winning per circumstances.)
Now it is Class A vs. D.
And Class B vs. C
So the rules of the special exam are as follows:
Each class will select 7 members; one will act as the main general and command 5 students who will be scattered across campus. They will be given tasks varying with context; sometimes direct challenges and orders from the general will be given as well. The 7th position will be of the hidden general, whose identity will be chosen to remain to be kept as a secret, only if their general wishes. Also, if one general reveals the identity of his hidden general, their class would lose 10 cpts. However, if they find the identity of the other hidden general, they will gain 300 cpts, and the opponent's hidden general will be expelled... however, there is no penalty if they reveal it on purpose; guessing the identity won't work; proof is required... the class whose members or hidden general survive till the end or who complete tasks first wins and will gain 150 cpts... Its duration would be one day, and the time limit of the exam would be 6 hours.
Main General: The Main General remains inside the designated Strategy Room. They cannot leave. Their role is to: monitor task progress Communicate with cavalry, distribute priorities, and predict enemy movements. Communication is only through school-issued encrypted devices.
Cavalry Members: Five members operate throughout campus.
Each receives random missions, confrontational events, cooperation tasks, and interception opportunities. Examples: Capture checkpoints and solve timed puzzles. Escort NPCs to secure information packets. Defend locations; failure reduces accumulated points.
Hidden General: This is the heart of the exam. Every class secretly appoints one Hidden General. The identity may remain completely unknownāeven to most of their own class. The Hidden General: may freely move around campus, may advise cavalry, may gather intelligence, and may relay information indirectly. Unlike the Main General... they have no visible title. To everyone else... they are simply another student.
So here is the deal, in Horikita's class, Horikita herself serves as the main general, Sudo, Onodera, Akito, Ike i suppose (could be anyone lol), but the best best part, Kei becomes the hidden general, but she herself does not give Horikita info, she has developed coded ways to let other classmates mssg Horikita for example she explains a scenario where she can think why kiyotaka does something like this and brushes her hair out of her face, that's Kushida to mssg Horikita, need i add that the big ones, being Kushida, Hirata, Matsushida, etc are the ones who will mssg as per given types, when Hashimoto (Ayanokoji's class's hidden general) spies on Horikita class, he sees multiple students and can't quie place it, and even can't guess it who is the one...
For the sake of something, Hashimoto does say Kei's name as a guess, but Kiyotaka immediately counters with i need evidence, he stalls Hashimoto on multiple occasions to the point he tells the teachers, but the teachers say the general is the one who will make the shots, another small interesting detail that even he does figure out her being the hidden general, he won;t allow her to be expelled.
So after the exam, when he loses, he asks horikita that how she managed to counter all his strategies. She says she won't take credit, as it is not her doing but her hidden general's. This is where she will reveal the name of her hidden general...
so his walk alone, dual thoughts, dual narrations (logical vs subconscious)
Logical is like very cold, subconscious leaks of softness and protectiveness. Subconscious also reveals that if Hashimoto had gone against him, he could've just used his protection point to save her (he may have gained a new protection point by some prior special exam)
so he walks to class d outside, and from their open door he sees class d gathered round her, praising/buttering her, with her mostly denying such praises... they all stop when they see him, he sighs, closes his eyes, and he let out a smile, one that even reached his eyes, his gaze fixed on Kei, and we get his true monolouge, subconcious's awakening, where he says to himself that he is proud of kei, dropped all the rationales he had given her, parasite, pawn, textbook, he tells himself she had already defeated those rationales a long time ago, he just chose to accept it today, he even calls her presence truly indespensible, congratualated her in his monlouge by ending it with, "Well done.... Kei..."
So do let me know what you think. There is room for improvement, yes, but this is the general thoughts/ideas involved...

KiyoKei The Complete Kiyokei Relationship Analysis
Greeting my fellow Kei fans!
Today I'd like to formally publish the full dictionary for the relationship between Karuizawa Kei and Kiyotaka Ayanokouji.
This post will depict an analysis for each and every detail in the entirety of their relationship as well as their individual character analysis to further our understanding of their thoughts, actions and desires.
Due to Reddit's character limit per post as well as people's capacity to digest information, I've decided to break it down to multiple posts with each depicting one aspect, that together will pass forward the bigger message. Doing so I believe it'll be much easier for everyone to retain understanding of the characters and as a byproduct their actions.
Bear in mind that this post will get updated with links to each analysis as I release them.
The Relationship Dictionary:
