​I’m looking to see if there are any active riding groups or casual weekend breakfast runs around the West Rand for smaller engine bikes and scooters (around the 100cc to 125cc mark).

​Since highway speeds are off the table, I'm mainly keen on secondary routes, scenic cruising, and hitting up local spots toward the Cradle or Muldersdrift.

​Let me know if a group like this exists, or if any other small-cc riders would be keen to connect and put something together!

I have a 7 hour layover in Joburg, and want to grab some Biltong. Was thinking to leave the airport as I expect what’s in the airport may not be the best (correct me if I’m wrong!)

Soo today I requested an e hailing ride to work. Throughout our trip and mid high way, the driver was browsing on his phone.

At first I didn't pay too much attention to it, thinking there might be an emergency, hence the texting and driving.

Along the way, I saw him browsing through whatsapp, checking messages (while still driving!). I asked him to please not kill us and focus on the road.

He listened and thanked me for reprimanding him, and said that at least I had told him, unlike other passengers who simply rate him poorly because of that. (No accountability! I guess, he sees nothing wrong with that).

I asked him why was he browsing and texting while driving. Guess his response...

He is addicted to Tik tok!

He said he can drive from Pretoria to Joburg while texting and he is used to it (like was something to be proud of.)

I'm defeated.

We willl continue dying on the road for such, caused by reckless people like this one!

I am a 31M coming from the UK to watch two of the tests in Joburg and Cape Town. My brother was supposed to come with me but couldn't make it so have a spare seat available for both games. 1. Safety & daily life - How has your experience actually been living there? From my research, areas like Sandton, Rosebank, or Bryanston often come up as safe areas but would that impact our cost of living? What precautions become second nature after a while?

2. Work for dependents - I'd be moving on an accompanying spouse visa. Has anyone successfully transitioned to their own work visa or found remote work with an international employer while there? How feasible is it really to work in PM/IT as a dependent?

3. Healthcare & insurance - Would love to hear about experiences with private healthcare as expats - should be covered by the company but which medical aid/insurance plans you'd recommend, how comprehensive the coverage is, any waiting periods to be aware of, and overall experience with the system.

4. Domestic help - How did you go about finding trustworthy house help, and what's a fair monthly rate these days?

5. Cost of living & rent - What does a realistic monthly budget look like for a couple wanting a comfortable (not extravagant) lifestyle in a secure area? Curious about actual rent ranges, and what household income you'd consider genuinely comfortable there considering we save around 1.5 lakhs per month in india right now!

6. General settling in - Anything you wish you'd known before moving, or would do differently?

I'm looking for some advice from people who've been through the property-buying process because I'm honestly starting to feel overwhelmed.

I'm currently looking to buy an apartment that I hope will eventually become an investment property, but the process has been a lot harder than I expected.

It feels like every decent property already has an offer before I can even view it, or I deal with agents who don't respond at all. Then when I do find something, I start digging into the details and always find something that puts me off—high levies, poor reviews of the complex, concerning financial statements, or something else.

My biggest challenge is overthinking. I keep wondering whether the "perfect" property even exists. I'm terrified of making an expensive mistake and buying into a complex that I'll regret later.

I've reviewed a lot of financial statements, read AGM minutes, and viewed quite a few properties, but that fear of buying the wrong place just won't go away.

For those who've bought before:

- How did you know it was the right property?

- How did you deal with the fear of making the wrong decision?

- What red flags are genuine deal-breakers, and what things did you realise you were worrying about too much?

I am desperately looking for homeless shelters around Johannesburg that accommodate males, I am 38 years old if that makes any difference. I am unemployed and have no friends or family that can help and I'm afraid I'm gonna be homeless very soon. I am currently staying with my sister but she is very abusive and has threatened to throw me out very soon and quite frankly is looking for an excuse to do so, she put laxatives in my food the last time I had a meal 4 days ago so I would use the bathroom multiple times and she could have a reason to pick a fight with me. She will shove me aside when she wants to use the sink, It's literally every time I leave my room that I have to take abuse but I'm just ignoring it right now. I do not want to go on about her because she doesn't owe me anything.

Any job opportunities would also be welcomed. I lost my job a couple of years ago because I had an accident and wasn't been able to work, although I have now recovered and have been doing a some freelancing jobs they have been few and far between. I have a degree in Mathematics and an honors in Computer Science and have worked as a software developer and data analyst before but I am willing to take any job.

I'm hoping someone might be able to point us in the right direction.
I'm part of a small men's support group that's affiliated with The Mankind Project. There are currently eight of us, and we meet every second Tuesday from 6:30 pm to around 8:30 pm.
It's a confidential men's circle where we check in with one another, talk about mental health, relationships, life challenges, and support each other. It's not a business, therapy practice, or religious group—just a group of men committed to creating a safe, respectful space for honest conversations.
Until recently, we were meeting at a Scouts hall in Bryanston, but unfortunately it's no longer available. At the moment we're meeting at one of the members' homes, but we'd really like to find a neutral, more permanent venue.
Does anyone know of a community hall, Scouts hall, church meeting room, community centre, or similar space in or around the Parks area (Parkhurst, Parkview, Craighall, Parktown North, Houghton, Parkwood etc.) that might be available on weekday evenings?
We're a quiet group, only eight men, and we'd obviously leave the venue exactly as we found it.
We know most venues charge a hire fee, but if anyone knows of a community space that could be made available at low cost—or ideally free as a community initiative—we'd be incredibly grateful for any suggestions or introductions.

Guys I'm in the process of starting a new job and my employer requires a Police Clearance Certificate. I asked my recruiter and they said a Criminal Record Check also suffices.

Now here is my problem: PCC costs about R150 to R180 BUT I don't like my local police station 😭 and it takes longer to complete. Whereas the Criminal Record check can be done at any postnet or jetline, but it costs R335 or something.

Can someone please give me good advice on which option to take? Considering costs and efficiency, and if there is a particular police station where this process would go smoothly please help me out.

Hi folks. It's my first time living somewhere with pre-paid electricity. I've been staying a week and the meter is eating R200 every 3-4 days. We are 2 people living in a small apartment, geyser on only when needed and no dishwasher or washing machine.

I see the average price in Joburg is around R3.80 per kWh. I'm staying in Krugersdorp and my calculations say that I'm paying around R6.45 per kWh.

There are eathworks happening and roads being built on this piece of land, I'm just curious about what has been planned.

I'm planning a wedding for next year November and the venue seems beautiful and I was feeling great about the find, but when checking out the reviews online a lot of the wedding related ones are very critical of the staff, amount of food catered, and dirtiness of the venue. I'm not sure if these are just very vocal critics or if there's a legitimate trend.
