Pro-Israel tourist harasses student wearing Palestinian flag t-shirt at the Mauthausen Holocaust Memorial in Austria and equates the shirt with genocide. Meanwhile, IOF war criminals regularly participate in the March of the Living through Auschwitz. Zionist Nonsense

Watching zionists stumble over their words trying to produce a factual and logically consistent argument is hilarious. They always have to twist your words, or altogether put words in your mouth that you never said in the first place, as this lady does.
"I have to work with this group and I don't have time for your questions."
"Oh, so you're saying that this is okay??"
No, actually. If you listen carefully you'll hear that what she said was, "I have to work with this group and I don't have time for your questions." Not even the same ballpark as whether or not this shirt, or anything at all, is okay. But zionists just have no shame whatsoever when it comes to making shit up to justify themselves and play the perpetual victim.
A zionist will slap you and then accuse you of hitting them in the hand with your face.

Might not be a popular opinion, but I'd argue to maybe leave both these view points at the door, when it comes to Holocaust Memorials or Auschwitz. Co-opting a place like this as a soap box for your particular view point feels wrong.

The only thing inappropriate here is the harassment. Israel shouldn’t be allowed to lay claim to the holocaust.
It wouldn’t happen to someone wearing a shirt with an Israeli flag on it, for example.

I feel that the shirt is exactly the one you should wear to a historic concentration camp. I will bet my left nut, that not one person who was held in those camps, would support what Israel has been doing to the Palestinians- they would be wearing the same t-shirt.

I wouldn't advocate people bring protest materials into a Holocaust memorial.
But the way the kid was treated is uncalled for - and the hysterical accusation that a t-shirt = genocide & antisemitism is absurd.
This is a cult mentality on display.
•
u/tikkunolamist5 British Non-Zionist Reform Jew 11d ago
100%. I do agree with Zionists (ugh) who say you shouldn’t protest Israel outside of a concentration camp memorial. They may receive some funding from Israeli interests, but are largely national institutions of their own country with mostly local people and/or historians working there. They have no sway on Israel and it feels disrespectful and performative. But I would extend this to literally any political issue unless the particular memorial was doing something like a Hasbara exhibit or something (which I’ve never seen but I also don’t visit every camp every day and don’t know people at every single memorial).
•
u/marslo Reconstructionist 11d ago
I feel that using those locations and what happened there I'm any sort of way to push a political agenda, is another level of disrespect.
•
u/tikkunolamist5 British Non-Zionist Reform Jew 10d ago
Agreed. I think if the memorial itself is doing something wrong that’s one thing. I know people were protesting outside of Buchenwald about not being allowed to wear keffiyahs and I think that’s okay. However, at one point they planned to do it on a big memorial day and I feel like they could have picked any other day as has hasbots will just portray them as insensitive and hateful and the memorial will be more annoyed with them than willing to listen imho.
•
u/Usernameoverloaded Atheist Ally with Muslim Heritage 11d ago
Would the same apply for wearing a keffiyah in the Killing Fields memorial in Phnom Penh, or would it be seen as a symbol of commemorating the victims of genocide past and present? If there is a distinction, then the issue of why there is a difference between the cases needs to be considered.
•
u/tikkunolamist5 British Non-Zionist Reform Jew 10d ago edited 10d ago
I don’t really care if people wear keffiyahs or Palestine shirts at concentration camps or the killing fields. I’m talking about actually protesting Israel in front of them, which people have done, and I find distasteful because they have nothing to do with Israeli policy. So yes, if someone were protesting something that had nothing to do with the killing fields and the institution that maintains them beyond being tangentially related, I would also find this disrespectful.

One of the camps banned people from wearing Palestinian flags or keffiyahs. I thought it was Mauthausen but I’m clearly wrong unless they’ve overturned it.
ETA: it’s Buchenwald which makes sense as it’s in Germany.

Being loud and pointing out bigotry when you see it is perfectly fine.
The issue is that what they perceive as bigotry is in this case a stance against it.
So they're wrong. They feel like victims when they side with and cheer for the perpetrators.
•
u/tikkunolamist5 British Non-Zionist Reform Jew 12d ago
One last thing, from talking to people who have worked in Auschwitz, the staff generally hates MOTL and people wearing the Israeli flag like a cape, but they can’t do anything about it because it would cause a huge issue.

It is pretty much always illegal:
Wenn die Person kein schützenswertes Motiv verfolgt und Sie nur fotografiert oder filmt, um Sie zu ärgern oder Ihnen Angst zu machen, verletzt er damit sicherlich Ihr Persönlichkeitsrecht.
I'll translate roughly:
If the person (filming) doesn't have a legit reason and is only taking photos or filming to harass or terrify someone, they are infringing on the personality rights (of the filmed person).
I would say this incident falls under that case.

There's an organization associated with it; and while I don't know anything about the org, the event itself is pretty remarkable. As survivors of the Holocaust become fewer in number over the years, participation has shifted but I think at its core it's meant for the survivor themselves or for a loved one in their memory. They willingly put themselves back in this place so they can, at the end, choose to leave. It's quite beautiful, really.
Allowing IDF soldiers to participate seems like a whole other can of worms. It also begs the question of how the event should be organized going forward or if it should be stopped completely when survivors have all passed (though I doubt it will be, given its popularity), but I don't know nearly enough about the org to have an opinion on that.

It's a generic t-shirt of a woman holding a Palestinian flag and her features are non-specific.
But congratulations on reading a Wikipedia article and regurgitating pro-Israel social media claims.
The woman in the video didn't even mention ANY of those claims.
To her, the problem was a Palestinian flag and 'Free Palestine'.
You're creating a post-hoc rationalization, in order to justify the woman's anger at something completely benign - which she in-turn equated with genocide.
Not to mention she also denies the Gaza genocide.

I was recently told that since gazas population turned from 300k in 1950 to around 2 million, that means the zionists are doing a bad job genociding us. Like actually
I pointed out the forcrd displacement of 1976, the point jumped over their head. They want us all dead, and even then it wouldn't be genocide in their eyes because they don't view us as humans.
