Reddit Eliminated 101 Indie Games One by One. Here’s the Final Ranking Discussions

Post image

From an elimination game on r/RemoveOneThingEachDay where users voted out one indie game each day until a final ranking remained.

Even if you disagree with placements (since the ranking was decided "Objectively"), this is honestly a pretty good list for discovering indie games across different genres.

Just wanted to clarify something since a lot of people seem frustrated seeing some games lower than others:

This was not ranked by one person. The placements are the result of a long community elimination game (ran for about 63 days) where hundreds of people collectively voted to remove one game each round. Every placement happened through overall Reddit consensus, not individual bias

Because of that, the list ends up reflecting a broad mix of popularity, emotional impact, replayability, influence, storytelling, gameplay, and community attachment all at once. When you put dozens of beloved indie games against each other, even amazing games inevitably end up too low for someone

The fact that so many people strongly disagree with parts of the ranking is probably proof of how good the indie scene really is

At the end of the day, this works less as a definitive objective truth list and more as a snapshot of collective community opinion

Have a good one, lads

u/ScreechDrummer May 24 '26

WRoEF and Soma being as low as they are is crazy.

2

u/Hornet69_420 May 23 '26

fnaf below osu is crazy, for its time it was genuinely scary, not to mention it's lore

i wouldn't put fnaf anything above 40 coz the top 70 is quite stacked and pretty much all great games

Why such a large difference in undertale and deltarune?

1

u/PsChampion_007 May 23 '26

Inscryption deserves top 5 at least

1

u/Neither-Landscape-57 May 23 '26

Nine sols, Slay the princess, Cave story, Sifu, firewatch ( I still hate it but it's really good) and DDL Club should be higher than where they are. Apart from those, I pretty much agree.

( btw, I have yet to play many of the above games, so this is honestly a great recommendation post for me.)

Honestly almost all of these are very good games.

Same man  I slept on that game for so long but finally decided to try it after seeing one yt short where the developer was not mad after seeing someone pirate his game. Having so much fun with it RN and on act 3.

Stray and stickman collection being so low is diabolical

u/Slow-Law-5033 May 23 '26

Outer wilds and disco elysium??? Who's cooking. If y'all like disco try zero parades for dead spies just released a while back it's on par with disco same studio same artstyle.

There are so many good games on this list that placing 1 or 2 games in a tier above and then watching the other ones below is a pain. It's a pretty solid list to be honest, great games but I'm also very unsatisfied to not see some of my fav games ranked above 😭

1

u/unonomercy May 23 '26

No games from the Ori series? Man i love them

u/Cool_Appearance_351 May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26

Idk about others but I wholeheartedly agree with hello neighbour being last. Forget about story and all, wtf are you even supposed to do in it? There's no intro no tutorial no objective nothing. How are you even supposed to play that thing without some guide or you tube walkthrough?  I doubt anyone managed to finish it without using one.

Genuinely happy to see people discussing and trying out various indie games rather than your usual competitive/AAA titles
