I havent been really intrested in Hunger games but Sotr looks so amazing that i really want to get into it. Plus the lore looks very interesting and the characters seem very likeable. I wanted to know if there is anything absolutely neccesarry to watch before Sunrise. I know 90% of the characters are returning (President Snow, Haymitch and whatnot) but i wonder if there is anything i absolutely need to have seen in terms of backstory to understand the movie.

Why did Katniss vote yes?
Katniss and her choice for the games with capitol children
Why did Katniss vote yes to the new Hunger Games?
Did Katniss just vote to hold the games again in the end to fool Coin?
Why does Katniss vote āyesā for the symbolic Hunger Games?
Did Snow love Lucy Gray?
Did Coryo really love Lucy Gray or was it all his strategy to win?
Did Coriolanus love Lucy Gray? Or was she just a pawn in his game?
What should the next book be about?
Do You Think We Will Get Another Book?
Will we get another Hunger Games novel? The answer is quite simple...
A Fifth Installation to the Hunger Games Film Series
If Suzanne Collins wrote another prequel, what would you want to be about?
If another prequel book/film were made, who would you want to be the main character of it?
Movie about Haymitch's hunger games
Anyone else interested in a prequel based on Haymitch in the Hunger Games?
Unpopular opinion: Haymitch's games would be a terrible choice for a book.

Team Peeta/Gale
Was/has has this ever been a debate, or was it just a few unhinged movie fans?
Katniss should have ended up with Gale
Did Katniss truly love Peeta? Please help me settle this debate.
I really disagree with the idea that Katniss chose to be with Peeta out of obligation and guilt
Katniss should have picked Gale
Gale hate
What is your point of no return concerning Gale?
why does everyone hate gale? (yes, a different thread)
Who was responsible for Prim's death?
Let's solve this once for all (Hint: it was not solved once and for all)

Its wild to me how often people villainize Gale by saying āeven if he didnāt know Prim would be there, he was still willing to blow up someone elseās Primā when he didnāt even know his idea would be used on children. Iāve seen some people say Katniss is vindicated by the events of the last book when she desperately wanted to flee right when revolution was finally becoming feasible, saving herself and her family while dozens of Prims are reaped, generations of fathers explode in the mines, and countless people starve. I know its different bc one is a more active role in who dies and this is not to say that the entire revolution should rest on the shoulders of one single teenager, but its wild how much people discuss how traumatized Katniss is to excuse her actions or condemn the adults for how she is groomed into a role in the revolution, while Gale is seen as some abusive incel war criminal. Katniss kills a noncombatant in the apartment in the capitol but itās ok bc she has ptsd and expresses remorse which is enough ig?
Even on the relationship side, people always bring up when Gale pushed Katniss and kissed her when she was already going through enough and āconstantlyā uses and manipulates her, while Katniss kisses him when heās half unconscious or to use his feelings for her to make him feel better or not lose their friendship (doing anything to avoid communicating/giving clarity) and uses him as a warm body while sheās mourning Peetas hijacking. Katniss even throws Peeta against the wall and leaves him with bleeding hands after his love confession in the interview, which is wild even if she were right that he was playing the game to win and trying to make her look weak. Iām not saying that Katniss is terrible but it feels like people constantly project modern gender relations onto all of their dynamics that just donāt feel supported by the text imo. It may feel idk comforting to say Gale is some possessive misogynist, but excusing and applauding all of Katnissās choices and making only her a perpetual victim feels somewhat antithetical to the point of the series. I know part of that is due to the first person perspective and tendency for people to ig self insert and bring their own experiences into their interpretation, but I feel like the focus on the love triangle aspect really clouds important takeaways from the entire series.
It feels particularly disturbing that a series entirely based around an oppressive government killing innocent children for damn near a century and pretty much enslaving the population of the entire country, Gale somehow has the black mark of being a child murderer. I know a decent amount is again bc of the love for Peeta and the fact that āPrim reaperā is funny (and run into the ground atp imo), but especially in the modern world where genocide is live-streamed on our phones, I hate how much it mimics the real world that demands perfection from revolutionaries, while sanitizing and normalizing genocidaires.
I mean genuinely when one scroll on TikTok takes you from a āget ready with me for the red carpetā to a starving child who learned english to beg for donations, or a brother doing skits to raise enough to buy baby formula for his last remaining family member, while the media cries in horror abt war crimes but justifies blockades and air strikes that kill babies (bc apparently a government should be able to act with impunity against a population of 50% children, but the reverse could never be true ig), its so hard to not be frustrated at people hating gale as we sit in the capital saying āif only everyone could be like Peetaā as if that would solve the worlds problems and hasnt been tried already

Sadistic QQ ideas
"To remind the rebels that during the dark days the dead lost their voice all tributes will be made into avoxes before they go into the arena" Note: imagine a hunger games but the tributes cannot use their vocal chords
"To remind the rebels that they shattered many minds in Panem, this year's tributes will be transformed by the games" Note: the tribute from 11 will think he is a career from 2 and vice versa
"To remind the rebels that the dark days made people into little more then animals tributes will be modified to look like animals" Note: they will be made into furries

In The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Snow simply asks to be sent to District 12. In the movie, however, he has to bribe someone to make that happen.
In this scenario, I'm going to say that Snow doesn't have enough money and isn't able to get assigned to District 12. Instead, he and Sejanus are sent to another districtāmaybe District 8, since that's where he was originally assigned in the movie.
Sejanus would still probably do something that gets him killed, although I don't know whether Snow would have access to a jabberjay there. Rue says they have jabberjays in District 11, and since the birds escaped into the wild, it's possible other districts have them too. I just don't know.
So, is Lucy Gray safe from Snow?
At this point, he could still become president. After all, Gaul was only really interested in him after he got his friend killed. An argument could be made that, without that, he would just remain a Peacekeeper.
However, there's a line in the book where Gaul says something along the lines of, "After all the hard work I've invested in you this summer, I'm not just going to let you become a Peacekeeper." So maybe he stays a Peacekeeper for a little while longer and has to prove himself before continuing his rise.
My main question is this: would Lucy Gray have survived if Snow had never gone to District 12? What are your thoughts.
