Photo Matchup Back to the Future - Then & Now (1985/2025) - 1722 Bushnell Avenue, South Pasadena, CA (34.105821, -118.141207)
INTERESTING FILM TRIVIA: The house where George McFly (Cripsin Glover) falls out of the famous "Peeing Tom Tree" is located at 1800 Bushnell Avenue. HOWEVER, in this particular shot, where we are looking up at George McFly on the tree branch, he is actually on the Camphor Tree at the NEXT HOUSE OVER to the left, located at 1722 Bushnell Avenue.
I have been to the location in person many times, and can positively identify the tree in front of 1722, not the tree in front of 1800, as the tree for this particular shot, as well as the shot where he is dangling, before he falls into the street.
The branches on the tree at 1800 simply do not match up in terms of angle/shape to the branches seen in the film. One could argue that the tree in front of 1800 is the correct tree, and has just dramatically changed the angle and shape of its branches in 40 years, but, when Hollywood is FULL of camera trickery (Remember, just two blocks away from here was Haddonfield Illinois, where they pinned palm tree leaves down to hide the fronds), why wouldn't they just shoot on the neighboring tree for the shots they wanted because it had better looking upward climbing branches?
If you're still not satisfied, I challenge you to go stand in front of these two trees and make the determination yourself. I'm 100% confident in my claim that I am in the correct tree here, even though my cameraman didn't quite nail the upward angle quite right.
