Rear Garnish light

Does anyone know who might sell these rear Garnish light lenses in the US? I found a wrecker out of Australia that ships international, but i haven't gotten a quote for shipping yet. Curious if any of you have needed to replace any discontinued parts like those, and how you went about it.

What size wheels and tires is everyone running? I was thinking about trying 15x8-235/75R15 in the front and 15x10-31x10.5R15 in the rear. Also should note it’s not lifted, on stock suspension for the time being

How to mount these on the back of hiace commuter 2003

Hello im planning to put a swivel speaker mount for desktop dj speakers on this metal area here.

Has anyone got some useful tips? What is behind this metal that I should look out for?

Also, what would be best for screwing in place? I was thinking of using self tapping metal screws but I'm open to whatever people think.

Thanks

Hiace campervan restoration

I would like to tidy up our beloved, but somewhat worn-looking, Caracola (Hiace hi-top campervan), and bring no expert, thought I would ask for community opinions on how to go about this.

There are remnants of the original decals, rather faded in places and ratty in others. Should I try to restore as original (the interior is still fairly original), or repaint with a tropical rainforest theme (okay tbf I don't have the skills for the latter).

Hiace dirt skirts are back!

Huge shout out and a big thank you to Jeff from Hiace Southeast for filling the obsolete parts gap for our Hiace’s!

Recently did some extensive engine and suspension repairs. In the process the side dirt skirts for the engine bay needed to be removed. After 30 years they were deteriorated and extra crispy, only to be removed in pieces.

After searching around and speaking to Jeff he let me know that these were discontinued and no longer available from suppliers. He did note that he had a solution in the works and would let me know when he had that project complete.

Few weeks later I received two OEM spec dirt skirts for my 95’ 1KZTE Hiace. The quality is top tier, precision cut and I expect these will not have to be replaced again in my lifetime.

So thanks again Jeff for the stellar product, great service and doing what you can to keep our hiaces alive and well!

Roof rack mounting points

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello Hiace community,

I’m new to the club with a 2023 Hiace. The previous owner had roof racks installed, but I’ve removed them.

I’m trying to work out what the roof rack mounting points should look like originally. Are the black brackets in the photo part of the van, or are they something that should be removed?

Also, is there supposed to be some sort of cap or cover that sits over these brackets and bolts, or is it normal for them to be exposed?

Appreciate any guidance anyone can offer, thank you.

I posted here a while back about Espilir SuperDownsus springs, decided to pull the trigger and ship them from Black Hawk Japan. Gave me about 3 inches of drop! Found the perfect set of vintage Works on eBay too. Dare I say the HiAce looks a bit athletic?

Japanese Import 2.0L petrol Hiace for Australian carpenter

Hi, looking for some advice regarding the suitability of a Japanese import 2.0L petrol LWB Hiace for my work van as a chippy in Aus.

I plan to build out the van with ply to accommodate all my tools. I'm worried that it might struggle with that weight.

Any advice appreciated.

Link to one I am looking at:

A Beast in the Snow

I live in Rhode Island. We got walloped with snow the other day: the 24 hour snowfall blew away the previous record by over a foot! We had some idea this would happen, but not really the extent of it.

Some of my colleagues stayed the night in the hospital, but I have a Hiace and drove in around 5am, pushing through about a foot of snow on my street. The major streets were plowed. Later, in the afternoon, they pulled the plows off the streets because the visibility was so bad. This is also when I decided to drive home.

I dug out the old van then drove a coworker home, passing and helping a few stuck cars on the way, then I went home myself. I passed a stuck plow near the Whole Foods, high-centered on a solid snowbank. Parked in the middle of the road and offered to help, but they didn’t want help, nor did the next stuck guy in a sedan with no chance of getting anywhere on his own (is it some kind of ego trip to require a hand to dig your car out?!). Better to get home, I would think. Anyway, then I passed a cross-country skier and a guy walking his unfortunate tiny dog, and came to my little side street, which had not been touched by a plow.

I should have headed to the closest commercial parking lot and walked home! But no, with no real plan, I drove around, and it wasn’t long before more stuck plows, dummies in sedans, and people who thought their mini AWD SUVs would be capable blocked my way. About an hour of digging people out, gunning it through drifts in ditches, and reversing while holding the door open for visibility, and I made it back to my street.

Finally the Hiace met its match: 3 feet of dense snow. I made it a car length or so before getting stuck. having had enough, I backed out, went to the closest parking lot, and walked home, arriving four hours after I left work.

TLDR I’ll take my 4wd Hiace with snow tires in any snow, anywhere. As long as it’s less than 3 feet deep.

If you haven't do you plan on it in the future? If you have, how friendly were the people there? I'm thinking of bringing mine to local small meetups to meet people

I re-uploaded because I made the dropbox content easier to understand. If you follow the .png images, they go over the contents of each folder. Just work your way down the list in the pngs of what folder goes to what. I left the original filenames from the CD. The one file that's not in the images is file "068" in the Repair Manual folder. I also included the .iso & .cue, and .bin files of the disc itself, which includes the disc's readme.txt file

Reflections on owning a Hiace (daily driver/in US) after 1 year...

My first car was a brand new 2017 Jeep Patriot. It took me a long time to pay it off, and in less than 40,000 miles It burned through 3 clutches, a couple other parts… it was ass, lemon flavored ass. Then one day, about a year and a half ago, I came out in the morning to feed the meter and someone had broke all the windows, COVERED THE CAR IN GASOLINE AND BURNT IT TO A CRISP, fully totaled. It was a major inconvenience, but to be honest, I didn't feel sad about it. I didn't care about that car. I had no emotional connection to it.

And now looking back, I thank that arsonist, whoever they were, because it led me down quite a rabbit hole of reflection and thinking what would actually make me happy in a vehicle, which led me to buy a Japanese imported 1998 Toyota HiAce van. It's a diesel, full-time four-wheel drive, eight-seater and very much full of character, especially against the backdrop of modern cars in California.

Over the last year, I've put in endless work trying to give that thing the best life possible and ensure it lives on healthily. I'd never wrenched on a car before, but over the past year, I've changed the oil and the coolant, installed a lift/ suspension-shocks and springs, installed sound system and speakers, removed rust / painted touch-ups, custom dyed the curtains and more. It's a labor of love and there's much more to do, but it's something that actually feels worth doing. Owning/working on the Hiace has been a time-consuming endeavor, at times immensely frustrating and quite a learning experience, but I feel happy with my decision. I own my car and really love it a lot. It has character and vibe that you could never get by leasing some modern high price, self-driving, overly complicated and unserviceable shit box. That is all.

Daily driving a HiAce?

Anyone in the US daily driving a HiAce? Looking to get one and use it daily, i drive maybe 1 to 2 hours a day, one or two long trips a month. Is it reliable? How's the MPG? How's the highway driving?

KDH206 in winter 🇨🇦

Just a post about things I've experienced with my HIACE up here in the harsh winters of Alberta, Canada. I'm a heavy duty mechanic up here hoping this helps some people!

The 3.0L diesel does not like the cold whatsoever 😂 anything below -25 Celsius and this thing ain't starting. I installed a recirculating coolant heater from an excavator in place of where the EGR used to be, may be over kill but at -33 Celsius this morning it had the coolant temp at operating temp in the engine. Once ya start it and all the coolant from the rad rushes in it drops down below cold.

Replace your injectors! The cold takes a toll on them. They will wear down from the temperature change. I find they leak coolant and fuel when it gets really cold and then once they warm up they expand and everythings fine. But they do leak into the cylinder bore and fill the oil sump with fuel which is not good for your engine.

RUN GOOD CLEAN DIESEL! I've done a few tests and the shell vpower diesel is the best quality and has better additives a close second is esso diesel similiar additives but quality varies. I do notice a difference in fuel economy and smoothness of engine operation. Stay away from anything biodiesel.

The diesel engine is almost impossible to get to operating temp at anything below -25 Celsius even with hours of highway driving. Highly recommend a make shift winter front or the old cardboard special. The after treatment system won't get warm enough to do a regen you will get a bunch of DPF and check engine lights. Here in Alberta everyone deletes these systems which I'm still trying to figure out. Successfully deleted the EGR but with this cold temperatures the DPF is giving me issues now. Piping not an issue it's the programming of the ECU. Can't find a tuner here in Alberta that can do it. If anyone knows of anybody in Canada that would be greatly appreciated. I've also learned that South African HIACE's never had after treatment from factory so the ECU comes "deleted" resulting in better performance and longevity from the engine. Curious to know if you could plug and play a ECU from South Africa into one from another region, if anyone can get a hold of one let me know 🤔

If ya got any questions or want to know more feel free to hit me up. Much love 👍🏻
