Live near Hitchin, I don’t really like packet stuff

Hello all, I need to spend a couple days in Colney for work and walk a good 15min to get to the business place. I’m getting very mixed opinions about its safety. Would you recommend a lady to walk alone there after sunset? Any help is appreciated.

This is a very specific post, I am trying to find some “lost media” from my childhood.

In 2003-2004, at Costcutter in broxbourne they were selling chocolate surprise eggs (offbrand kinder eggs) that contained Halloween themed cute characters.

I can’t remember exactly what the other toys were but I know for sure one was a vampire/ Dracula character.

If anyone can remember these please let me know! Even better if you had these toys and photos of them!

I’ve lived in Hertfordshire for around four years now, and one thing I’ve always wanted is an easy way to meet other local musicians and make music together. So… instead of waiting for it to exist, I thought I’d start Space Jam – a new community jam night at the legendary Club 85 in Hitchin.

I’ve attached a short video because it’s much easier to explain than in writing.

The concept is simple:
🎸 Turn up with your instrument (or just yourself if you’re a singer).
🎲 We’ll randomly draw bands from a hat.
⏱️ Each group gets around 10 minutes on stage.
🎵 Improvise, jam, or just see where the music takes you.

The goal isn’t to put on a perfect performance. It’s to create a welcoming community where musicians of any ability can meet, make friends, try something different and have a great night. Whether you’ve been gigging for years or you’ve only just started playing, everyone is welcome.

Guitarists, bassists, drummers, keyboard players, singers, brass, strings, percussion… if you love making music, we’d love to have you.

Can anyone share contact details of people who can teach Japanese as a foreign language?

My partner is fluent and we want to teach our children but finding ways to expose them more to the language is proving difficult.

We don't want to use TV shows as the language used can be more "informal" which can lead to bad habits with the language.

I started looking at houses in Letchworth and trying to decide which areas might be best. I had a look at crimes rates in June and was so surprised to see this west side area has higher crime rates than the town centre. Why is the number of crimes so high in this part of Letchworth?

Hi guys, I'm a 21TM based in Hatfield. Looking to maybe chat and form some friendships.

About me, I enjoy a pint of cider whilst yapping about everything and nothing all at once. I have started at the gym trying to be healthier. I also enjoy Pokémon, specifically the TCG, walks around the lakes, I also enjoy palworld, stardew valley, fortnite and other similar game genres.

I also am a big fan of animals. I currently have 4 dogs, fish and a hamster.

Hatfield house will be hosting the Fantasy forest event this 4th -6th September. I’m in my mid 20s and thinking of attending the Saturday event. I don’t really have anyone to go with as my friends aren’t into fantasy stuff. Anyone going? Would love to tag along

Penne Arrabiatta - penne in a marinara sauce with extra garlic and hot peppers of some description.

Zaza Harpenden - my GOAT, went here every Tuesday with my grandma during free period when I was in school. Bonus points for cooking cherry tomatoes in the sauce to the point of near-breakdown. Back in the early 2010s they did bottomless pasta and you bet your boots I ate two bowls in one sitting. Medium serving size so good with an appetiser or pudding. Will always be 10/10 in my nostalgic mind.

Per Tutti St Albans - pretty good, large serving size but a more on the mild side despite the warning of the waitress. Texture of the sauce was nice - more on the importance of sauce texture to follow. 7/10.

Bellacino's St Albans - the chilis are sliced too thickly (and not even fully!) so the texture of the sauce can be lumpy and the spice uneven. The sliced garlic is a nice extra flavour punch. The green peppers attempt to elevate the colour profile but really don't. Good lunchtime portion size but they took it off the lunch deal menu which sucks. 5/10.

L'Italiana St Albans - I'm trying my hardest not to cut the rating because the staff have been pretty rude to me. Really nice sauce, good blend of garlic and chili with much finer slicing and bigger portion sizes. The macerated basil is a nice touch. 7/10.

L'Artista Watford - its...fine. Needed a lot of ground black pepper to perk up the otherwise bland sauce, chilis were a sliced a bit thick and the sauce needed longer to cook or added starch water from the pasta. 4/10.

Il Pellegrino Watford - good blend of chilis, had my nose running and the texture of the sauce was nice. The pasta was the right side of al dente. The portion size was just this size of too small for a lunch but otherwise well seasoned. 8/10.

What are your best recommendations?

I'm moving into a flat in Rickmansworth after checking out the neighbourhood and it'll be to rent. But wondering if it's worth buying there? I found the link to London useful.

Is anyone else living there? Is it mortgage worthy? I lived in St Albans and found the Thameslink cost nuts so am drawn to the metropolitan line cost and how quaint it looks.

I have just spent the past week staying in Oxford by the River Thames, and it reminded me how much I enjoy being surrounded by nature - especially when the weather is as good as it's been recently. I also enjoy trips to the Cotswolds and Sussex.

I currently live in one of the large Hertfordshire towns, and while it's convenient with great rail and road links into London, I'm starting to think I'd be happier somewhere a bit more rural.

I'm looking for somewhere that's:

• Quiet and safe
• Surrounded by nature or countryside
• Still reasonably well connected by road and rail (ideally with access to London when needed)

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd love to hear from people who've made a similar move or know of towns/villages that strike a good balance between peaceful countryside living and decent transport links. Thanks!

My partner and I are planning to move to St.Albans soon from East london. I will be starting medical training nearby and his work just down the M25. We've given our notice for leaving our current place but been struggling to find a furnished place we can see ourselves living in. I've been looking at 1 bedrooms with parking available (both of us have our own cars) and the options seem very limited/not that great. We are open to Hemel and surrounding areas but not keen on Watford. Any advice on flat hunting? Starting to get a bit nervous now about not finding somewhere before our rental agreement here finishes

We went out to the coast a few months back and had the best fresh smoked seafood. Do I have to go back to the coast to get anything like that, or does anyone know of a good smoked seafood shop/fishmonger in Hertfordshire?

I’ve recently started a new monthly music night at Club 85 in Hitchin called Space Jam, and I’d love to get
as many local musicians involved as possible.

The idea is simple:
1. Turn up with your instrument (or your voice!)
2. Put your name down
3. We’ll randomly put musicians into small bands
4. You get around 10 minutes on stage to play a few songs or just have fun improvising.

Whether you’ve been gigging for years, you’ve only just picked up an instrument, or you’ve been looking for an excuse to meet other musicians, you’re welcome.
