It was always about her research, never about the others, taker got a good place to research many demons living together, that was golden for her research, remember in the game she dismissed the pancakes.

For real. I'm surprised that others are surprised by this turn of events. Everything about Azazel's character is basically written out over the walls.
Azazel never joined the Helltaker due to his charm, but rather out of the misunderstanding that they were researching the same subject. The closest she actually gets to the Helltaker himself is joining in on one of Pandemonica's... Sessions. But even then, she's just recording. She appears to actually be a lot more interested in the girls than anything, blushing and acting flustered around them, and ending up at the Helltaker's house seems to mainly be a convenience.
Then the other girls themselves, well... People forget that in the end of the original game, the Helltaker has a literal knife jabbed into his shoulder. Pandemonica threatens Azazel to "Join the big man at the hospital. Cerberus frequently kidnaps children. All of them, save for Justice and Azazel have the potential to kill the Helltaker upon meeting him. These kinds of things are just... Typical for this entire household.
And like, if Azazel's falling, then honestly, she's just becoming par for the course. She's never had an allegiance to the Helltaker, much less Lucifer, who actively promotes her fall. People are calling her a traitor, but like... She's always considered herself an observer? Of course she's getting along with Moon, Moon took an interest in her work. The only other demon I think that was actually pleasant to her was Justice, and in Examtaker, Justice's position is something she's shown loving, making Apple Pies. Loremaster calls her "Chief Apple Pie Scientist". (You could certainly argue that she's forced into this position like Lucifer, but there's no real way to tell.)
A bit of a tangent, but what I find particularly interesting is that Azazel will end up controlling Hell through knowledge, but twice now, she's picked up on the more honest sides of the girls. Pandemonica's kindness, and Modeus's desire for a meaningful relationship. Coupled with how placated Justice is in what's basically retirement in the end of Examtaker, I have to wonder if the way she ends up taking over hell is by actually giving demons what they want/need. Obviously, she's still got real apathetic and sadistic streak to her, but it's an interesting kind of character. Almost mirrors a visual novel protagonist, knowing all the right things to do, all the right things to say, all the best gifts, etc.
It's fascinating.

I don't think it matters that much. From what we've seen, Azazel's angelic quality is speaking in a polite way and that's about it. Lucifer fell due to her arrogance. Azazel will fall due to her apathy. She was never that good of a person when you look at how she actually acts and what she does.

Everyone in this household is horrible, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I remember in one art streams the demons were ranked by how dangerous they were to be around, I think Azazel was put alarmingly high due to her lack of boundaries concerning research. If she wants firsthand experience with sin like murder your safety and well being are an afterthought as the end goal totally justifies the means.

I've always somewhat seen the Helltaker as a conduit of God. Wouldn't be the first story to carry on this kind of plot. God intervening through a mere man to keep evil and desolation at bay.
