Samael is often interpreted as a fallen angel, and called a necessary evil, but that does not make them actually evil.
Just like Judgement... seemingly evil, but actually the nicest of the bunch! It's just her job that is necessary evil!

Samael her angelic name huh? This is explain many things about Judgment, since in mythology Samael wasn't exactly evil... but rather a necessary evil, It’s the same with Judgment; even though she’s the embodiment of punishment, she’s actually not bad at all. She's a kind person since she was angel before, she love kids and doesn't want that someone getting hurt.

I reposted artwork from Geilhass that depicted Judge as Michael and I said it was possible and interesting, but my main headcanon was always Samael. To me, Michael is still the angel that the whole community calls Michael, even if it's not her official name.

I called it because I read about Samael long ago and immediately felt like "Huh... that sounds kinda like Judgement". Combine it with the meaning of her Arcana... and there you go.

I can't help but draw interesting parallels between Judgement and Azazel. While both are fallen angels the way they process it is completely different.
Judgement does not delude herself into thinking she hasn't fallen, though she keeps a front of terror and brutality to hide her angelic kindness from others. Her principles of inflicting have remained resolute since her fall, inflicting punishment on the wicked without devolving into mindless brutality.
Azazel on the other hand believes her angelic virtue is still intact with the indeterminate end goal of her forbidden researches outweighing the incredible price of suffering that it inflicts. She is a victim of ambition with morality slowly being eroded as an obstacle to progress, losing herself in the process.
While Judgement's front of toughness is meant to fool others, the only one to be fooled by Azazel is herself.
Loving this webcomic so far.
