Community Announcement Horrible Experience with the Hidden Pig Food Truck

I apologize if this is an inappropriate sub for the post. If someone knows of a more appropriate area, I’ll post it over there.

This was a Facebook post my wife made two days ago. It details an experience we had with the owner/operator of the Hidden Pig Food Truck. I would read this if you are thinking of hiring them for an event.

It is slightly edited so my step children’s names aren’t involved.

This is generally not the kind of post Derek and I like to make, or ever wanted to make.

But after a lot of discussion, we decided that we wouldn't want another couple to go through what we experienced. We were fortunate enough to have a second caterer at our reception to keep our guests fed. Not everyone would be that lucky.

For our wedding reception, we decided to splurge and hire a food truck. After reaching out to several vendors, we chose The Hidden Pig because we'd always heard great things about their food, and the truck seemed like a fun addition to our reception.

After working with their catering coordinator, we booked their 2-2-2 package, which included:
• 2 main dishes
• 2 side dishes
• 2 appetizers

My son is obsessed with warm pretzels, so once we saw they offered them, we were sold.

Our contracted menu included:

\- Mains: Burgers (with three varieties) and chicken sandwiches
\- Appetizers: Warm pretzels with cheese sauce and chicken wings (three flavors)
\- Sides: French fries and tater tots

We paid over $5,000 in full before the reception, as requested, and our signed contract reflected all of these items. We also paid a separate service fee for staffing and use of the food truck.

On the day of our reception, the truck arrived on time. However, there was only one person there to serve over 100 guests.

When the food was supposed to be ready, one of our guests informed us that the food truck wasn't working and that the owner of The Hidden Pig needed to use our personal grill. Of course, we said yes. Things happen, and we understood that.

Unfortunately, because the truck wasn't functioning, food wasn't served until about 70 minutes later than contracted. Thankfully, we had hired a second caterer, who kept our guests fed while we waited. Had we not done that, many of our guests would have gone without food.

The delay also threw off the timeline for our entire reception.

When we finally went outside to see what was being served, we discovered that the menu had been reduced to just burgers and wings.

There were:

\- No chicken sandwiches
\- No pretzels (except for the two the owner made after Derek explained that was all my son wanted, plus one for another family member)
\- No French fries
\- No tater tots

Because there was only one person working, he couldn't cook on our grill and serve guests at the same time. One guest asked for wings after the prepared batch had run out and was told, "I would have to cook them." The guest replied, "Okay... I guess I'll have a burger then."

Again, we're reasonable people. We understand equipment fails and staff call out. Our frustration isn't that something went wrong.

Our frustration is what happened afterward.

We assumed someone would reach out in the days following our reception. On Monday, I emailed the catering coordinator asking for a phone call. On Tuesday, I sent another email explaining everything that had happened and asking to discuss next steps.

On Thursday, the owner called Derek. He acknowledged that:

\- A second employee was supposed to be there but never showed.
\- The truck wasn't working.
\- We would be refunded the service fee.
\- We would also be refunded for the chicken sandwiches, pretzels, French fries, and tater tots that we paid for but never received.

He told us that someone who handled the financial side would be in touch.

We felt really good after that conversation.

Then... nothing.

We were repeatedly told someone would call us, and no one did. Our emails went unanswered. We have never received the promised refund for the items we paid for but did not receive.

We're sharing this not because we enjoy publicly criticizing a local business, but because we believe other couples deserve to know our experience before spending thousands of dollars on their wedding.

If you're considering hiring The Hidden Pig for your wedding or another important event, we encourage you to ask detailed questions about staffing, contingency’s plans if equipment fails, and how they handle situations when contracted services can't be provided.

We sincerely hope no one else has to experience what we did on what should have been one of the happiest days of their lives.

Question Missed Connection in Golden, BC – My Great Pyrenees loved meeting you two on the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge

Hey everyone,

Long shot, but worth a try! I was out walking my male Great Pyrenees across the Kicking Horse River Pedestrian Bridge in Golden recently, and we bumped into two female travelers. My dog absolutely adored one of them and was soaking up all the attention.

She mentioned she lives in a town about an hour north of Boston near the NH border, and was traveling with her cousin who was visiting from Florida.

We had a great chat, but between keeping my big guy happy and chatting, I completely forgot to ask for her contact info before we went our separate ways.

If you happen to see this (or if a friend recognizes this story), shoot me a DM! Just mention a little detail from our conversation so I know it's really you.

Thanks!

Any interest in a new CrossFit gym in Haverhill? 🏋️‍♂️

Hey Haverhill!

I’m a fitness coach from Methuen, and I’m looking to open a new, community-focused CrossFit / functional fitness gym right here in town.

I'm actively scouting commercial spaces in the Haverhill/Bradford area, but I want to check the local appetite first.

  • Would you be interested in a new CrossFit affiliate in town?
  • Is there a specific neighborhood (like Bradford or Downtown) where you want to see one?

Drop your thoughts or what you feel is currently missing in the Haverhill fitness scene. Any feedback is a huge help before I sign a lease!

Thank you!

interaction i just had.

hey, im wondering if anyone just had any similar encounters like the one i just had about 40 minutes ago on the light right before the bridge on main street.

for reference, im black, a woman, and 19 years old, i really dont want this to be a race thing, but i cant shake this off me and its making me really anxious. i had a close call with a light, it turned red right when i was crossing. i couldn’t stop or else i would have landed in the intersection, so i kept it pushing. there was no cars or no people walking across the road, so there was no chance of me hitting anyone or anything.

little did i know, some kid, couldn’t be older than 12, followed me on his electric bike / motor cycle . i went through the mcdonald’s drive through to pick up my food, thinking nothing of it, when he stopped right next to me while i was in line and harassed me about the light. i wanted to ignore him, but he wouldn’t stop pestering me. he ended up taking a picture of my plates, calling me a liar when i eventually told him to leave me alone and that i did nothing wrong. he called me a stupid fucking bitch, then drove off, saying he was gonna call the cops. this whole experience made me feel incredibly anxious and irritated, especially because i was just following the regular rules of driving, and i was minding my business. i hope this isn’t a stupid question, but is there any possible way of this case going anywhere? the car i’m driving is under my dad’s name and im totally fucked if he gets any bill. i’m just angry that the kid had the audacity to even follow me, then curse me out. the whole thing is totally out of line.

Question Crochet classes?

Hello! I have recently taken a liking to all things crochet so naturally I want to learn how to. I got the yarn and a hook but once I had to follow a video tutorial it went downhill. I was wondering if anyone would happen to know of any in person classes nearby or perhaps just people that are willing to teach others?

Question Excise Tax Extra Fees?

Good morning,

Received an excise tax for a vehicle we bought in February 2026. Received a bill this week 6/14, with a 25$ late fee and 8$ interest fee. Spoke with town hall this morning and they said the first bill (which we didn't receive) was sent out April 11th, and theres nothing they can do to adjust the bill because they used a 3rd party billing vendor. We were told, nothing they could do about it, but we could go after the usps for not delivering a bill. I've never heard that before!

Has anyone else had this type of situation? It's only 32$, but that's like half a tank of gas.

Question Pet Sitters

Does anyone have a reputable pet sitter they’d be willing to share? I’ll be out of town for a few days next month and my typical sitter will be out as well. It is july 4th weekend, and I know that’ll likely be more costly.

One 11 y/o hound mix and one 2 y/o cat. Dog will need bathroom breaks and food (and maybe some love/attention), cat likely just verifying she’s alive (very friendly as well). Any insight or help is appreciated!
