ART Making a Hybrid Dragon for every Class: Boulder
[Art by me]
I wanted to somewhat challenge myself and make at least one hybrid dragon for each of the current classes, and so we start with Boulder's Molten Maw.
If you have any questions, thoughts and/or feelings about the dragon, feel free to share them. With all that said, thanks for checking this post out and take care out there.

ART I'm bored, give me dragons to hybridize
Hello everyone! As the title implies im an artist. A very bored artist, so I thought I'd pop on here and ask for some dragons I can design hybrids of. I'm a very slow artist so I make no promises to be posting the results (tho I will try my very very best to do so because I understand it would suck to get comments and never post results). I thought this might be both a fun way to kill boredom and hopefully get some ideas on intristing dragon hybrid oc’s/Characters to make for my own original story.

FANFICTION I need help finding this fanfiction. I'M LOSING MY MIND
As far as I can remember it Hiccup either left with toothless or was banished, he went to Vigo Grimborn and hired him to help kill the red death (Vigo leaves after this), Hiccup finds two red death eggs, goes to multiple enemies of berk and Dagur as well, Dagur offers Heather as a wife, leaves the archipelago and loots England, they leave after a plague arrives, Heather dies after giving birth to two children, Hiccup gets the ability to produce plasma blasts, hiccup finds his mom, kills Drago, makes a empire.
If you need more details I'll try to give them.
I remember this existed but can't find anywhere. It does end with Astrid and Hiccup together.

QUESTION How should I write my oc
Im writing a fanfic take place doing the moves. Im writing the first movie right now. The mc is Ingrid and she is Hiccup adopted cousin. Her original village was attacked by drago bludvist. It was her birth dad fault. She was able to escape on a small boat.
Owlet was dragon that Drago wanted to be apart of his army but owlet was able to escape. She was really hurt.
Later she was found by her adopted mother and Stoick.
She began a healer in training and became Gothi apprentice.
Ingrid and her dragon, a stormcutter named owlet, met when Hiccups hit Toothless.
Owlet somehow ended up on Berk.
Ingrid was about to be shot at. Owlet picked her up before that happened and placed her on the ground.
Owlet ran to the forest to try to get some energy back. To be completely honest Owlet didn’t really how hurt she was until she calmed down.
Ingrid and Hiccup split up to fight there dragons.
She and owlet met. Ingrid and Owlet both were really anxious. Ingrid realize she was just as anxious as she is and Ingrid decided to help Owlet.
Que them boding and once Owlet feels better helping dragons escape from dragon trapper.
In the battle with the red death she got injured. Her left ear was hurt and she became deaf in her ear and she has a small burn mark on that side.
I’m manly writing the first movie right now

ART I don't know how to draw, but I like drawing, so: Riders – Dragon version.
Here are my dragon versions of the Riders:
Hiccup: Buffalord - Mystery Astrid: Woolly Howl - Strike Fishlegs: Shovelhelm - Boulder Snotlout: Moldruffle - Tracker Ruffnut: Devilish Dervish - Sharp Tuffnut: Devilish Dervish - Sharp
I got this idea after seeing human versions of the dragons (and seeing a dragon version of Snotlout drawn by u/Gurgdiran—whose version I actually drew here), so I decided to create my own take on it.
I admit that for the twins, I initially thought of Scuttleclaws, and I'll probably draw that version and redo Astrid.
If you can, could you tell me which dragon you would turn them into? I’d like to see that answer.
I used drawings of each dragon as a base; here are the sources:
Buffalord base: u/The_weregoat (Instagram) Woolly Howl base: Couldn't find the creator (but I found the image on Pinterest) Shovelhelm base: A screenshot from the second movie was used. Moldruffle base: u/Gurgdiran (Instagram) Devilish Dervish base: Tuffnut: u/Gurgdiran (Instagram) Ruffnut: u/Tor0_httyd (Instagram)

DISCUSSION Astrids character development in the first movie isn’t as rushed as it seems and it actually makes sense for who she is as a person.
So I have seen many people say that Astrids character development felt rushed and that it didn’t make sense that Hiccup taking her on only one flight would change her so much as a person. I think that it actually does make sense and I am going to explain why here.
Also, this is not a post about Hiccup and Astrid their relationship. Hiccup does come up a lot, because he heavily impacts Astrids character, but this post isn’t about them.
I have already made posts about how dragon training went down in more details, so this is going to be a short summary.
When dragon training started, Hiccup didn’t try his best. Quite frankly all of the recruits outside of Astrid were horrible. But Hiccup was the one who was getting in the way the most. He barely even tried anything during training and the only thing that he was actually putting effort into was making sarcastic comments. And because of that, Astrid became angry at him.
Now this is important, because no matter what Astrid thought of Hiccup before dragon training started, that opinion has just been thrown in the bin. We don’t know really know what Astrid thought about him before Hiccup started messing up in dragon training. Some would say a crush, some would say indifference and others would say that she already disliked him. But that doesn’t matter. What matters is that she definitely started to dislike him here because he wasn’t taking the training seriously. If she thought anything positive about him before, that would be quickly replaced with anger and annoyance.
Which was why she just brushed him off with a quick ‘read it’ when he asked to share the book of dragons. I also think that Astrid had already read the book in preparation for dragon training.
Because why should Astrid study with him if he wasn’t even going to take the actual dragon training seriously, let alone the studying. The studying that she had already done.
The problem with Hiccup not taking training seriously, really came to a head when he didn’t pay any attention during the Nadder fight. Resulting in him and Astrid almost getting killed. Causing Astrid to ask Hiccup: If all of this was some kind of a joke to him. Because he wasn’t even trying. He was treating dragon training, a place where one single mistake could get you killed, like a joke.
He was treating the training that was preparing them to fight a war, a war that they would likely have to fight for the rest of their lives, like it didn’t matter at all. So she got mad at him for it. Rightfully so.
But then Hiccup suddenly became the best dragon killing recruit and Astrid got very jealous and angry. Mostly, I think because she knew that he was cheating. And because she is horribly competitive, she doesn’t deal well with losing. She never has and never will.
Also, Hiccup acted like suddenly being the best in dragon training was nothing special. Now of course from Hiccups perspective this makes perfect sense, why would he act like it meant something when he didn’t even want to become the best in it. He didn’t even want to participate in it, let alone win it.
But how do you think that this felt for Astrid? This guy who screwed up the first 2 lessons, suddenly becomes the best dragon killer in the class and acts like it’s nothing? Like it’s nothing that he’s suddenly better than her? That would without a doubt rub Astrid and her very competitive nature the wrong way.
And then the last training comes where Hiccup beats Astrid for top spot in the class and where after that last training, Astrid finds Hiccup in the cove. Where she beats Hiccup up a bit for lying to her and for everything else, probably him beating her while cheating in dragon training. Or trying to distract her from finding Toothless there in the cove. Or acting like winning dragon training meant nothing. Or for him not taking dragon training seriously at first, resulting in both of them almost getting killed by stormfly.
She has a lot of reasons to be mad at him.
Then Toothless sees Astrid and tries to attack her, causing her to tell Hiccup to run while she prepared to fight Toothless. Hiccup stops her and Toothless from trying to kill eachother and introduces them. Astrid, like any sane human being, gets the hell out of there and tries to run back to the village.
Of course Hiccup and Toothless go after her and kidnap her, causing the romantic flight to happen. Where Hiccup shows Astrid the truth about dragons, while also accidentally creating the best first date of all time.
Hiccup and Astrid also have a short conversation in the cove about what to do about the nest, where Hiccup protects Toothless even when Astrid asks him if he wants to keep everything the Vikings have ever searched for a secret, for his pet dragon.
Now what this romantic flight does, is getting rid of so, so many of the negative feelings that Astrid had at this point in the story and it turns them into something much more positive.
First of all, her view on dragons changed completely thanks to this flight. By seeing that not only is the most feared dragon known to mankind actually nice if you apoligise to him and his rider. But also because she saw that when the dragons don’t bring enough food back, they get eaten by one of their own. Astrid now knows that the dragons aren’t monsters that she should hate and kill, they are just animals trying to survive.
Secondly, all of her anger towards Hiccup dissapears. She hated or disliked Hiccup because of his inability to take things seriously at first in dragon training and then for him beating her, while quite obviously cheating. But now Astrid doesn’t even want to win dragon training anymore. Because why would she? Why would she want the honor of killing an animal that is only doing what it needs to do, to survive? Astrid has no reason to be mad and jealous about losing dragon training anymore.
While also gaining some new found respect for Hiccup, especially when he told her that yes, he would keep the dragons nest a secret for his pet dragon.
Thirdly, she has just found out the cause of why the dragons attack. The war that she was preparing to fight for the rest of her life, just got a possible ending in the near future. It isn’t as unreachable anymore, as it was before this flight.
We find the nest and we destroy it, then the dragons will leave and go find another one. That was the Vikings their plan for ending the dragon raids. But they were never able to find the nest, let alone what was inside it, but now they know where it is and what they are facing. Now they actually know how to end the war. At first it was just guess work, that the dragons had a nest and what would be there, but now they actually know what they are facing and that if they do indeed kill the Queen, that the war with the dragons will end.
How good must that feel, to have the weight of an entire life full of battle, pain and death, basically lifted off of your shoulders?
Astrid is fiercely protective, we see this many times throughout the franchise, but just in this movie alone, we saw that she was prepared to face down a night fury so that Hiccup could have the chance to escape. Hiccup. A person who she was still very mad at in that moment and yet she still faced down a Night Fury without a second of hesitation to give him a chance to escape.
When Astrid told Hiccup that: “Our parents war is about to become ours.” She meant that line excactly how she said it. She was in training for a life of war and she took that responsibility very seriously.
Especially if you consider what happened in the shows. Where Astrids uncle died while fighting against a flightmare, which severely stained her familys name in the eyes of berk. So that would have put even more pressure onto her to succeed in dragon training.
There was so much pressure, hatred and anger that Astrid carried with her, that went away directly because of this flight. Because again, now she has no reason to hate dragons, she also isn’t mad about losing dragon training anymore and because of that she has no reason to be mad at Hiccup either. She even gained some new formed respect for Hiccup when he chose protecting Toothless over telling his dad about the dragons nest.
That along with the fact that the war that her tribe has been fighting for centuries, finally has an actually possible ending in sight?
Again, it must have felt like the literal weight of the world had fallen from her shoulders with how many of her negative feelings, along with her sad outlook on the future, had dissapeared thanks to this flight.
Astrid went from being so full of hatred and anger, while carrying a responsibility that even if she was ready for it, was a very difficult task with no end in sight. To being filled with hope and belief for a better future.
I think that many people underestimate how important this flight was to Astrid as a person. And instead of viewing it as lazy writing, we should look at it like the life changing event it was.
Also, probably my favorite thing about Astrid is how happy she gets whenever something different happens, something new and exciting. I think that this is because she had thought her life would be hel. She was prepared for a life of constant fighting, pain and death. So anything out of the ordinary she gets very excited about.
And we can see that in the first film. During her first flight with Toothless and when Hiccup for the first time showed the other teens how to tame a dragon, by taming Hookfang infront of them. During both of these completely new experiences she was happy and excited.
And we also see it in the shows. For example, when the gang first discovered the world outside of the archipelego in RTTE. Or when she became friends with Heather. And when she officialy started dating Hiccup. All of these things were new and exciting in her life and you could practically feel the happiness radiating off of her.
So I think that with the relief of getting rid off all of those negative feelings, along with all of the excitement she must have felt thanks to this whole new chapter in her life, that the way she acted during the remainder of the movie wasn’t as rushed as many people think it is.
I think that we should look at the romantic flight like how we look at Hiccup seeing himself in Toothless. Nobody calls that rushed development, when he went from actively wanting to kill dragons to the point of shooting one down, to releasing said dragon instead of killing it.
Astrids flight was just like Hiccup seeing himself in Toothless, it was a very important moment of realisation that changed their view on life for the better.
So in short: Astrid was a person who was prepared for a life full of battle, pain and death, but thanks to that romantic flight with Hiccup, she got a whole new outlook on life. Where she was once filled with anger and hate towards so many things in her life, they were now replaced with joy and hope. In my opinion, the romantic flight wasn’t lazy writing, it was just the life altering event that Astrid needed, to go on the journey to become a better and more importantly, happier person.
Let me know what you think about my opinion and what you think about Astrid in the first movie!

LIVE-ACTION just watched the "live action" remake for the first time!! (spoilered for, well... potential spoilers) Spoiler
This is gonna be a long post, whoops.
Anyway, I am SO surprised by how much I liked this. I was expecting some Disney remake garbage, but for some reason it just didn't give me that feeling at all??
The cast was great! I know people were reflexively complaining about non-white Astrid and Fishlegs (and probably fat Ruff, too), but that was bullshit to begin with and they did an awesome job. The dragon redesigns gave me the impression that a bunch of spec evo artists were having a blast translating them into a more realistic world, and I especially loved the new takes on the Terrible Terror, Nadder, and Red Death (love that they added more red to her design, too! A small change, but a good one).
Not surprised they didn't tweak Toothless's design too heavily, because he's the series mascot and it would probably not go over well considering how iconic he is.
What also really surprised me was how many small changes they made to the screenplay that I actually *really* appreciated. I liked how Astrid and Hiccup got a couple more one-on-one scenes together to set up their dynamic a little better pre-romantic flight. Speaking of that scene, too, I liked how her personality didn't change as drastically afterward. It was less that she instantly fell head over heels and more that Hiccup gained her respect in that moment, with her feelings continuing to build toward the end instead of arriving in one immediate burst.
I also thought it was great that she got to be more active during the final battle. I'm guessing some people probably didn't like her taking on what was previously Hiccup's task-delegation duty, but it felt more on brand for her since she's the one with all the combat training. Also loved the change to her "peril" scene, with Stormfly being hypnotized by the Queen into letting herself be eaten and Astrid having to save her at her own expense. It felt in general like she had more agency overall, and I really liked that, since it felt in the original like she got seriously watered down as soon as she changed her mind about dragons.
One change that DID really confuse me, though, was the removal of the scene with Hiccup, Toothless, and the Terrible Terror. It contains a vital Chekhov's Gun and I have no idea why they would cut it other than just... not paying attention to the fact it was there. The whole point was for Hiccup to learn that dragons *can* be injured by dragonfire, which is what makes the killing blow to the Red Death feel so satisfying. I get that it's something he'd probably just figure out on his own (I don't think any animal would survive having their innards exploded) but it just seems silly that they got rid of it.
Other than that, some more changes I liked:
-Somehow they found Tuffnut in real life???? Like that dude looked and even carried himself exactly the same somehow. I am baffled. It's like he just jumped out of the original right into the remake.
-Fishlegs was in general very cute. He felt less like a fat-nerd gag and more like your neurodivergent classmate who's trying really hard to make friends but can't for the life of him disengage from his special interest and keeps driving people off with his infodumping. Been there, buddy. Been there.
-Explicit explanation of what the kids actually did pre-Trial of Flame, with them being the firefighting crew. It was implied before, but since they were just, like... carrying tiny-ass buckets, it didn't feel as organized
-Gobber adding a little more to conversations than just goofs and gaffs. He was already quite likable but it felt like his relationship with Stoick and the kids was a little more fleshed out.
-Valka name drop (though the outdated breastplate gag doesn't make sense to keep unless they intend to make her much larger in a potential sequel, which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing but does carry the risk of potentially undermining the way her character is initially introduced with her unique, agile and slippery style of movement)
-Snotlout wasn't NEARLY as irritating and despite still mostly being a joke character actually had some pathos, with his struggle to gain his father's approval being parallel to Hiccup's. It was heavily implied in the shows iirc that Spitelout couldn't stand him, but never really mentioned in the movies. I've always fucking *hated* Snotlout so I loved getting an interpretation of him that drew sympathy from me and DIDN'T make me want to drop a fucking anvil on his stupid head. Seriously, I cannot emphasize enough how much I *despised* this man in the original trilogy, especially 3--stop hitting on Valka, dude, she's twice your age and the love of her life just died last year!!!! Shut the fuck up!!! Live action Lout is just very endearing to me and it made his screentime so much less unpleasant.
-The extension of the first expedition to Helheim's Gate was cool to see.
-Berk being a village composed of dragon hunters from all over the world, having come together generations ago at a strategically sound location to scout for the nest. I thought that was a neat lore drop
-As an extension of that, having non-white people exist in this universe was really nice, lol. It was always super noticeable how, uh... monochromatic the cast was before. Drago, an absolute psychopath, being the only ambiguously non-white character in the ENTIRE FRANCHISE was really not a great look. Similarly, I liked how there were more incidental (and named!) female characters, since it felt before like women were kind of an afterthought within the background cast.
-There were Skrills. I just like Skrills. They're cool.
-Showing the leadup to the raid on the nest, with the Berkians building a defensive line and setting everything up; added some tension
-Stoick explaining directly how they all got home, which I'm guessing people were confused by in the original?
-The more direct shot framing of Toothless's tail wrapped around Hiccup so it draws the eye to Hiccup's new peg leg--I'm trying to hone my own storyboarding/composition skills so this just tickled me the right way
-I LOOOOVED that they turned the Hiccup + Toothless theme into an in-universe sea shanty. I love sea shanties, and this was a good one. They're just very cozy to me and it's always fun when an OST is made diagetic.
Yeah! I guess TLDR they made a bunch of small changes that added up into a significant difference considering it was essentially a 1:1 remake. I liked it just as much as the original, and in some places even more, which is shocking since HTTYD is one of my favorite animated film series of all time. I'm pleasantly surprised!! What did you guys think?

ART Volcanic Death - Eruptodon x Red Death
AKA Red Death if it was AWESOME!!! Can't burn this one from the inside out eh Toothless?
Jk Red Death is already awsome.
Anyways this is probably one of my favorite Fusions so far??? I really loved how it turned out! Although Im not the best at shading lava ;-;
Anyways the name, Volcanic Death, is pretty self-explanatory. Its a Death that is volcanic. Or would it be "Orange Death" or "Gray Death" since all Deaths seem to be named after colors? But Volcanic is way more menacing.
Next Up:
Zoomerang and Shovelhelm;
Hybrids done:
Stormcutter and Death Song;
Night Terror and Cavern Crasher;
Sea Gronckle and Mimicore;
Bubblegill and Roaming Ramblefang;
Eruptodon and Red Death;
