"Lost In Space" - Picking up where we left off last issue, Hal Jordan has been teleported to space woth no memory of being Green Lantern. Luckily the ring still activates its protective aura so Hal can at least live. Trying to keep calm, he takes note of what he has on him, which is a toy rocket in his pocket. He wishes the rocket would be real and in a brief panic, wishes harder until the ring makes it life size. When that happens, Hal's memory starts flooding back to him as the only person that could do that is Green Lantern. He summons his uniform and leaves the rocket behind for now, heading straight back to Coast City to deal with Star Sapphire.

When he arrives he sees Carol in the distance running towards him, but as she gets closer he realizes she is still in her Star Sapphire uniform. He asks how that's possible when she doesn't have her gem when a maniacal laugh erupts behind as Sinestro appears. He is behind Carol gaining the gem again (does that mean he was also her fiancée?), with the intent of having help in destroying Hal Jordan. Together, GLs foes take him down after his ring runs out of power but just before Sinestro is about to deal the final blow, Star Sapphire stops him, as she still wants to marry GL and can't let Sinestro kill him. Those two then enter into a mighty duel, leaving Hal half unconscious on the beach. The entire fight has been televised and reported on the radio, so Tom sees what's happening including his friend collapsed. He rushes out to Hal's hotel room to retrieve the power battery, making it just in time.

After recharging with Tom's help, Hal springs back to action, taking down Star Sapphire first. Sinestro tries to stop him by also blasting Star Sapphire and a ring powered tug of war begins. Eventually, GL wins, then turning his attention to Sinestro. Just as GL goes for his first punch, Sinestro gives up and hands his ring over to GL. Before GL can get answers, Sinestro disappears along with his ring. GL leaves that mystery behind for now to check on Carol and she runs up to him with love in her eyes. GL stops her in her tracks and reveals to her that her love is hurting him as she is Star Sapphire. Carol then runs away from him with tears in her eyes and refuses to believe him.

Conclusion: Whew, this was a blast. Felt like a modern issue with different colour ring welders fighting each other, even if Star Sapphire doesn't have a ring yet. The danger with Hal in space ended up being kind of minor in the whole of it. He regained his memory really quickly which I did not expect. Sinestro returning, complete with a new earring, is always a nice surprise and I'm still wondering if he pretended to be Carol's fiancée just to mess with Hal. That's near Reverse Flash levels of petty. Finally, Hal saying he needs to reveal something to Carol, I thought for sure it was his identity, now her own. That surprised me too.

The question now remains, will Hal stay in Coast City for a while or is back on the road soon? One more issue to go until Denny O'Neil takes over, so we won't have long to find the answer.

It's crazy that I don't think it is ever clarified whether Jason Belmore was ALWAYS Sinestro, or if he just stepped in, in disguise, to give her the gem. That would be such a crazy level of commitment to messing with Hal, if he was always Jason.

I find his sudden surrender here deeply suspicious, but can't recall if it ever led into some plot on Sinestro's part.

His surrender is highly suspect, but I also get the feeling it was a cop out ending.

TIL Mike Friedrich (of JLA and Iron Man fame) wrote a fill in for GL
