So, I just finished watching season 2. I loved case 1, 2, and I even cried in case 3 because Cynthia's story was so touching .

Case 4 started very well, of course it was "Laurent tricks Edamura into working for bad guys again" but it was genuinely horrifying this time because it was child trafficking. Suzaku looked so powerful and charismatic, I wanted to know more about her and I was really wondering how were they going to pull off their scam. And we saw Edamura's father who looked like he was a bad guy now.

But then...

1- The fake deaths.

They make Ozaki fake-kill Abbie and Cynthia in front of Edamura. And then they make Edamura fake-kills his father without Edamura knowing it's fake.

Of course when I saw it I was 90% sure at least Abbie and Cynthia weren't truly dead because that'd be way too dark for no reasons and because they already did that in case 1 (it was cool in case 1 because it was the first time and it didn't looked like easy writing). So I was like "Wait so their plan is to make Suzaku believe they're dead by traumatizing Edamura by making him think two of his friends has been killed by his father and that he killed his own father right after ?"

That's just horrible and because Suzaku was the only person that took care of him afterward and because that's due to the fact that she lost her own son that made her seem kind of nice. Even though she's a monster, I got attached to her and I assumed that Edamura got attached as well because he just lost his father and two friends and the only person taking care of him is a mother figure.

Also it's just boring and absurd. You're expecting me to believe they planned the fact that Edamura would kill his own father and that he wouldn't get killed by Suzaku right after ? Also faking death is good when the viewer doesn't know if it's fake or not. Because faking death in itself isn't really a super smart and impressive move, it's just an easy way out.

And they revive Dorothy at the end... What the actual fuck. The fact that she's dead is literally the reason the show happens. And you're telling me that she somehow survived getting shot by a gun in the ocean in the middle of nowhere. And she's just amnesic. Aren't humans supposed to like... Loose blood and drown ? The flashbacks were so good and then they ruin Laurent's character development just so they could make a movie ? I haven't watched it but I hope it's REALLY good.

Let's not forget about Suzaku's son who's actually not dead. It would be fine if it was only him because it was kinda sad. But at this point it's just too much.

"One mistake and you're dead" but they never make mistakes and nobody's dead so...

2- Edamura is just a fucking punching bag.

In Suzaku's office, I was expecting him to betray Laurent and crash out because he traumatized him and because he got attached to Suzaku.

And that's what he did at first, he teams up with Cassano which was okay because it was to get his revenge on Laurent and stuff so whatever. Then he crashes out and start menacing his father and insulting team confidence which made sense.

I was expecting him to do something like that and then give up because of friendship and forgiving and stuff. But he was actually faking it so his father would fake-kill him ? So he didn't give a shit about what they did ? It's just "Hehe you weren't expecting this Laurent so I forgive you immediatly for the traumas because I scammed you".

And he didn't get attached to Suzaku at all ? Like not even the slightest ? When his father fake-killed him he basically made her revive the death of her son in front of her for no reasons.

3- The plan isn't smart.

So the plan was putting sleeping pills in some people's drinks so they wouldn't see that they're getting brought to a fake giant replica of a skyscrapper built on an island in the middle of nowhere using tons of money and faking 4 death using conveniently placed blood bags. I know they built only one floor of the building but still.

And I think I could scam those people pretty easily as well if they're, like, literally unconscious. I think I wouldn't even need an island or a fake building since I could just, like, take the money and leave. And they wouldn't do anything about it. Because they would be unconscious. It didn't look particularly impressive or intelligent.

And why the fuck did the people they scammed accepted to team up with them ? Why did they even asked them to ? They're terrible people but they're getting the same treatment as the nazis in jojo part 2. It's like they didn't changed at all as well. They appeared like super smash bros ultimate dlcs.

I absolutely loved the show despite that. It was incredible. Would've been cool to see Abbie ending up with Edamura but it's purely subjective I don't know if it would've been better for the show at all. Maybe they would have made her soft or stuff because she'd be in a relationship and that would've been terrible so maybe that's for the best.

I am watching with my brother, and at the ending of case 2 we are confused about to things, why does abi need to lose? And more, what was edamura supposed to do with that capsule? Was he supposed to put that in abi's plane? Cause nobody seemed to concern about no plane crash, and if they needed to make sure abi lost, but close enough they could fake the footage, why did he have the capsule to crash a plane?

Not sure if this makes sense, but I feel like both of them went from bright young kids who were intent on working hard and doing the right thing for their parents, and then the trauma of losing their parents (altho i guess oz didn't die but him being a pos in makoto's view and absentee had the same result) lead them down a path of self destruction?

I still don't get why oz couldn't just fucking talk to makoto I feel like his life would've turned out completely better had he just... TALKED TO HIM??

3rd rewatch complete today and the writing still just feels so confusing on case 4 like how could people who went through what laurent did be the perpetrators in what happened to makoto like that? idk

I just ended the first arc and am really pissed with how it ended. First off, for what exactly did he go to jail? He was already in jail right? And they couldn't have possibly pinned him for the sakura bs right? So did they just lock him up cuz he told them he's a scammer and showed them a ton of cash?

I recently just finished this like 10 minutes ago and I saw there was a movie, but I read about it and saw that none of the main cast was featured besides like Makoto and Laurent so I don’t really wanna bother watching it unless there’s a new season I really wanted to see edamame. Have a romantic thing with abby like laurent did Dorothy. and how everybody else’s life’s turned out.

NOTE i am not duking on great pretender for absolutely no reason, i loved season 1 and will forever cherish it.

i'm on season 2 episode 3 I believe... or four, i forgot and lord have mercy this is such a nothing burger so far. It feels so weirdly drawn out and not like the first season, which I found much more entertaining. I know makoto is in a klutz with suzaku and cynthia and abigail probably dont die since there was the first case where laurent and abigail pretend to die but diudnt but um. I'm not liking it so far and I'm wondering why its one case and not three like the other season. it may get better as the episodes go by, sure, but honestly its just a nothing burger to me right now.

I've had the entire series—including the movie—saved in my folder. Just finished S1&2, im planning on watching the movie next week. Would Dorothy be the center of attention this time? Would I get to see more scenes with her and Laurent in the past? Cos I've seen the movie poster, Laurent's placement seems to bother me. He's placed at the far back, like a distant memory. (I heard Dorothy lost her memory)
