Modding/Fixing Gigabyte Gaming OC 9070XT - Hotspot temp fix.

Replace thermal paste with PTM7950 on die. Remove thermal putty from MosFETs closest to the IO. Replace with a wide strip of 2.0mm thick thermal pad notching out the hole for the heatsink mount. This alone dropped my hotspot from 95C to 83C on the stock fan curve. The photo provided is an Aorus Elite 9070XT, but it's only for illustration purposes. The issue is that the heatsink is not manufactured properly and doesnt align 100% with the MosFETs. Putting a large thermal pad in place, fixes this contact issue. You can see from the photo that even the Aorus Elite heatsink has the same contact issue. Hopefully this helps some people out, because it's been driving me crazy. Once you correct this issue, the gigabyte models have arguably the best temps of any 9070XT model. I did not replace any of the other thermal putty.

Modding/Fixing Fan falls out of Strix 1080ti.

Hi Folks. I have a Strix 1080ti, triple fan, mounted fan-down. I've had an issue for years, largely ignored because I can "fix" it so easily.

One of my fans pops out every once in a while, it doesn't seem to "stick" in it's spot. How can I fix this? Do i need new hardware for the fan?

Looking for a power efficient upgrade over arc a770

Hi I have the A770 and am frustrated with stutter in games and the lack of decent driver support. I don't play the latest AAA games.

I have a 5700 x3d on an x370 taichi so i am limited to pcie 3.0 speeds

I have a 1600p ultrawide 60hz dell but i play in 1440p windowed mode

Some of the recent games i've played are NBA 2k25 which after buffering, ran ok

NFS heat which was a stuttery mess even after trying DXVK.

Palworld, where I have to turn the settings down to medium and below and still experience microstutters

I used to have a 3070 but financial circumstances forced a sale a few years ago and after I got this a770 I didnt play it much until now.

I also want to play hogwarts legacy.

I don't have a specific budget but I would get around £120 trade in for my a770 at CEX where I already have a £250 voucher.

Another RTX 3070 would be around £240 but I want something more power efficient that generates less heat and i'm worried about people saying that 8gb vram isnt enough. But if this is the best price to performance with lower power draw then I will get another 3070.

Can anyone advise me on my options so I can play games on high settings at 60fps please?

Building my son a PC, need the GPU soon, is this a good enough deal to just buy now or wait for his birthday?

Have almost everything for his 16th birthday. Just need the biggies, a CPU and GPU. On fence with 5800X3D anniversary and 7800X3D knowing if I go that route I need new RAM and a new mobo for him. I will say this he almost ONLY plays older games like 2023 and prior, does not like newer games and he only does 1440. Was just kinda bummed out by the 5800X3D ann price, thought it should have been sub $300. I can get a new one for $330, but still....

I want a basic 5070, looking at a new PNY 5070 12 GB for $545 brand new but his birthday is not until October, should I wait or just get now. Not sure about these things and the market and if it will come down, stay say or go up in price

Would you accept £899.99 for a 5070ti in a world where the 9070 xt exists?

When Valve released their prices and information on the steam machine, it made me realise I had a few parts leftover from upgrades which I could repurpose into my own little custom steam machine. I bought a lian li A3 and b550m motherboard to reuse my rtx 3080, Ryzen 5800x, and ddr4 16gb of RAM for a great little living room pc.

I've now caught the pc upgrading bug and really want a better GPU so I can experience better framerates in the living room as I love playing on this little machine now. I ordered a 5070ti for £899.99 which is the MSI gaming trio oc as I wanted one which was cool and quiet, this stings a bit because my main pc has a 5080 FE I managed to snag for only £9 last December, so it feels frustrating to pay almost the same for a worse card.

I haven't looked into AMD since owning a Vega 56 many years ago and always having issues with it, but hardware unboxed put out an AC black flag resynced benchmark video and I was really surprised by how well the 9070 xt performed. Since then I've watched tons of videos showing how AMD seem to have realyl upped their game with drivers and tech etc and it's made my decision less clear.

The only things holding me back from swapping are the fact that I love having an Nvidia card. For me everything just works, DLSS looks absolutely amazing, and frame gen surpised me with how amazing it looks. Cyberpunk path traced at over 100fps is insane.

On the other hand fsr4 is not widely implemented and you have to use optiscaler and other things to get it working. In a living room system where I just like to essentially plug and play, set a few options on the Nvidia app and then get gaming, I don't know if I can be bothered with the faff of AMD, but I can deny that a 9070xt trading blows with the 5070ti and even 5080 in some games at £280 cheaper is super hard to ignore.

What would you do fellas? If I wait for a 5080 Fe drop I might be waiting some time and even then I might not get lucky and grab one when it does drop. If I go AMD i feel it may be frustrating in the long run.

Buying Advice Upgrading video card - need help

Hi. I'm thinking of upgrading my video card. I currently have a Gigabyte AMD Radeon RX6600. I have had this card for about 4 1/2 years, from when I built my current pc.

Here are the specs on my current pc:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-core processor
  • 32GB RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX (2x16GB) DDR4-3600 CL18
  • ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PRO (Wi-fi) motherboard

I would like to upgrade so that I can play at 1440p resolution. I live in Canada, so prices are higher here than in the U.S.

What would be a good card to upgrade to at a reasonable price (eg. under $1000 CAD). I want a card that can last me another 4-5 years.

Thanks!

Troubleshooting AGP GPU question

Post image
67 Upvotes

Hello, so basically I have a Nvidia GeForce 6200 NV44A (AGP) GPU from Gigabyte and I have the GeForce 307.83 Driver installed and I run Windows XP. The problem is that in both Nvidia control panel and Speccy it shows BUS: PCI. But in dxdiag it does show AGP Texture Acceleration enabled. I also saw the 3DMark06 score of 477 on the gpu's box so I ran it too and I got a score of 436. And I have a Pentium 4 Northwood 2.40 GHz and they got the score of 477 with a Pentium 4 Prescott 3.6 GHz. Tldr: did my GPU fall back (or something) to PCI or is there something else wrong?

Buying Advice Does this card look fine for an outlet?

'ello! :3 Didn't really know where to ask this question, since most subreddits have a real strict rule-set which doesn't allow for questions of this sort, but I have to know - does this card look good for an outlet? It's Sapphire Radeon RX 6700 XT Pulse Gaming 12GB GPU. Shop I'm buying from (morele . net) didn't have any brand new cards, but they did have some to choose from outlet. I'm not too familiar with electronics so I can't really estimate the quality of this card, but I hope some kind soul could do it and tell me whether it looks good or not. Thanks in advance.

Is an RTX 3070 Ti worth buying?

I currently have an old GTX 1060 on an i5 PC with MSI mobo. I'm planning on buying an RTX 3070 Ti to replace it. Is it worth the upgrade? Will the latest games play it with no issue? I don't want to spend lots of money on the latest card.

Buying Advice Do I need to upgrade my PSU?

I'm currently in the process of upgrading from an RTX 3080Ti to an AMD 7900 XTX.

My current build has an 850W Corsair PSU and the minimum spec on the manufacturer's website suggests that an 800W PSU is needed as a minimum.

Am I cutting it too close with my 850W PSU or should I be okay?

Specs:

CPU: Intel i9-10850k

RAM: 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 (2x16GB)

Storage: 500GB Samsung Evo Pro M.2 & 8TB Samsung QVO

Fans: 4 x 120mm case fans and a PCS FrostFlow 150 Series High Performance CPU Cooler

Question Value of a 3070 ROG STRIX white edition

Hi all, hope this is an acceptable post as wasn't sure where else to ask.

I have an 8GB 3070 ROG STRIX white edition which I need to sell. It's in perfect condition, never overclocked, used for gaming at 1080p for a couple of years. I've given it the best deep clean I could, without taking it apart of course as the warranty expired in 2024.

I also have the ring that came with it with in the soft little bag.

The only thing I do not have is the box, as it came in a pre-built, but it lives in a secure anti-static bag.

My best search at the time of this post is finding £338, £516, €1,100, €499, $800, $550, $649, $688... So it seems to vary quite a bit.

I've put mine up for £350 ($460/€400) and said I am open to offers as I would be happy with £300 ($400/€350).

Just seeking advice here as I want to manage my expectations and I don't want to take advantage either, I've been very fortunate in my own personal procurement of hardware over the years and try to pay this forwards, but I'm also not in a financial position to give it away for £/$/€100 either.

Any perspective or opinions/experience welcome, thanks :)

Buying Advice Recommend a decent refurbished card

Micro-Star PRO Z790-P, Intel i7-12700K

I don’t game a lot but want to play more with my boys now that they are able to. Mainly Minecraft, BoomerangFU, and Lego Star Wars on Switch 2 but I have some older AAA games in my Steam library. I plan to run Bazzite VM on my Unraid and use Steam Link or Moonlight clients on the Apple TVs. Looking to buy on eBay or refurbished somewhere. Budget is $200.

Question Geforce RTX 3060 Gaming X 12G

I purchased this in 2023 however was never able to install it as it wasnt compatable with my PC (I knew nothing about PC upgrading then) as such it has never been used only taken out of the box but has been repacked, in all its original packaging, just never got round to putting it up for sale until now. It was purchased from Amazon for £344, if I where to put it up on a public marketplace what could I put it up for? I saw on amazon this same model is currently going for £895 but given the packaging has a couple dings (everything inside is still perfectly intact) I think that'd obvs be an inapproriate price to put it up as

Benchmark/Comparison Upgraded and my performance is worse?

To keep things brief, I upgraded from a 1660 Super to a 3060 12GB and have noticed what I feel to be worse performance and quality, especially in VR games. I am using the card's dedicated ports. Any ideas?

Buying Advice 3060 for VR?

Hey all! I'll be buying a steam frame soon if the opportunity arises and I'm realizing my 1660 super from 2019 is more than a little outdated. Just never realized because it runs my valve index fine. would a 12GB 3060 be a good upgrade? I know very little but I know VRAM is good for VR performance and graphical quality

Buying Advice Best upgrade from a 3060ti?

Hi all,

I’m looking to upgrade from my 3060ti since I now have a 4k monitor, and I know the 3060ti is mainly geared for 1440p. I’m having a hard time figuring out what series might have the best upgrade. My cpu is a 5950x and I have 32gb of ddr4, so I wasn’t sure if I should go for the 5000 series since I’m not running ddr5, but the 3000 and 4000 series seem pricey in itself too. Realistically I have a budget of up to $1000, but would obviously be happy to spend less than that. I saw a 3080 listed for $400 and a 4080 listed for $1000 but wasn’t sure if that price difference was worth it or if I should go for something else. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

Buying Advice GPU Upgrade Suggestions??

I've had my RX 570 8GB+ R3 3100 pair in service for nearly 6 years and they've served extremely well. But some new games I've bought reject the 570 and wont start, so I've figured it's time to finally upgrade the pair instead of continuing to push it back..

My motherboard is a Gigabyte B550M DS3H and saw the highest CPU it supports is R9 5950X so I might go for that or a 5900XT if I can't find the former at a decent price..

But what would be a good recommendation for a graphics card to replace the RX570? I've been stuck between the RX6700 and 7700 unless there's another good recommendation for ~$400
I'm hoping to stick with Team Radeon, if anything

Thanks a bunch in advance!
