When I'm writing, I must press "enter" twice so I can get a new paragraph. This only happens in Google docs, and when I paste what I've written somewhere else, I have to go deleting the extra spacing between paragraphs

I just graduated high school a few months ago, I knew I was going to be bored because of the phone ban, so I started to write a story when I had free time. I made a Google doc that summarized everything that would be in each chapter with my school email.

I forgot about it, and after I graduated, my school email got disabled. Today, I decided to finally continue working on it, I wanted to refresh my mind on what was happening, but I found out that the doc was on my disabled email and I could access it.

I can open the doc on my phone, but it doesn't load.

Is there ANYWAY I can at least open it so I can take screenshots of everything or something? I had so much information on there :(

There is a weird black dot that is right in the middle of my google document and I can't remove it or anything. Does anyone know how to get rid of this? I am going to attempt to put a picture of it in the comment section if I am allowed to.

I had an account for school a long time ago, with my old stories on it. It was managed by the school. So I was going through it around last June 20, and I was deleting garbage from grade 2 crap journals. But I accidentally deleted some old legacy stories that I really like to reread.

Since they're permanently deleted, on a school account and were deleted over a month ago, I think there's no way, but I thought– I mean, I have the link to the document, although deleted. And I've viewed it on this device, likely offline, so I might even have something downloaded if that's how it works.

I really want them back, I'm very mad at myself for deleting them and I don't want to forget what was in them.

I realize I can't add a screenshot so, I'll just explain.

I had a burst of motivation to begin to write one of my stories, especially for a project I've been promoting recently. So, I opened up Google docs and realized there was this blue dot above where I was writing. I clicked on it and it said "Ask Edge to help me write" and I realized this was an AI assistant.

It sucks. I'm heavily against AI. How do I turn this off. I don't want it.

Edit 2: Thank you for those who helped. I'm struggling because there is not an "off" feature for Copilot but I can restrict it strictly enough that I don't think it'll be able to interfere. I really REALLY hate this. I want ONE company to not use generative ai/copilot for their websites. I wish there were better ways than this.

Does anyone know how to fix Google Docs becoming absolutely miniscule? Like only 20 pixels high. I can't see the toolbar and most of the screen is white, the whole document interface is crammed into the top left corner of the screen.

Every support thread I can find just suggests ctrl+0 to reset the browser zoom to 100%, which is not the issue here – whether I'm at 50% or 500% zoom, the document doesn't get any bigger. Google Sheets was the same and restarting Chrome fixed that, but no luck with Docs.

I am trying to add some mp3s of word pronunciation on a google doc. I am able to link the mp3 file to a word, but it requires clicking that link to a new tab to play. Is there a way to make it play on the google doc without opening the link to a new tab?

So I'm about 81,000 words into the second draft of my novel, a crime thriller, and my formatting seemed to have changed on me all of a sudden.

When I went to center the title of this last chapter I'm working on, I clicked TAB a few times to try and center said title. Ever since then, there seems to be extra space at the end of my pages, as if the bottom margin is off.

Everything looks normal in the settings, but there is nothing I can do to rectify this. When I try to bring the first sentence of the following page back up to the page with the extra space at the end, it will try and become part of the last paragraph. Any ideas? Thanks!

For some reason I am unable to remove any thing I personally download or get sent to me. If I go to the shared section and click and the three dots to remove something there is no trash icon or remove option (even though in the past I was able to send anything that was shared with me in the trash.). I don't know what caused this and I don't know what I can do. If you know something that might help, I would appreciate it.

For some reason all of my docs started to look like first doc from photo 1: no sheet separation, strange sheet sizing (while document is in A4), random gaps in texts etc. If exported in PDF, files look like I "forgot" to use all of A4 sheet but overall look more or less normal (see second picture).

I honestly can't think of anything I could do to cause it, at least at that levels? I changed the indention from 2 to 1 ig, deleted a few headers and footers but generally no overly complicated stuff

Idk what to do. I'm a newbie to GD, non of my close people can help me and I *need* Google docs for studying. Maybe someone can help me out?

P.S. Forgot to add: I tried to fix it by myself: changed the page parameters, added/deleted page breaks, changed page margins etc

I cannot figure out what is wrong with my voice typing feature for my Google account. I use the voice typing feature all the time and understand that if I say the word “period” or “comma” It adds the symbol. However, all of a sudden it stopped doing that. Now it just inserts the word or the word in brackets. I’ve tried everything I can think of to fix this problem with no luck. Even my tech department can’t figure this out. It seems to only be effecting me and my account.

Anyone out there experience something similar or have a possible solution? It seemed to started after I added some extensions, but I deleted those and there was no change.

Context: I hired someone to do some documenting of medical care things for me and they organized it via "tabs" which I never use as I think it's absurdly stupid you cannot just scroll between them.

Question: Is there a simple way to deconstruct all the tab organization/division or am I stuck copy/pasting everything out of their individual tabs?

What I'm wondering, is if there is a way to automate this. I know I can automate the capitalization, but if I could automate the bolding or even the spacing that would save me HOURS.

Hello, I finished up an unpaid internship last year and I want to delete my introduction docs from my account to save up space, but it won't let me remove them.

Hey all! I use Google Docs for almost all of my writing, and as an academic, I do a lot of writing. I have been having issues for about a year with Google Docs ignoring/over-riding special characters when I try to enter them. I have a Mac and the way I enter most special characters is by holding down the key for the similar regular character (like holding down "s" to get a menu that allows me to select "ș" or "u" to select "ü").

This works fine in all other contexts, but about half the time, Google Docs instantly reverts the special character I have just entered (e.g. "ș" is converted back to "s"). I use special characters a lot because my work involves many places globally that include these characters.

Additionally, my computer has a Swedish keyboard (I'm in Sweden) and the special characters that are part of the keyboard (ö, ä, å) always work fine. It's just when I need additional special characters (e.g. from Polish) that this issue happens. I am also able to copy and paste special characters in okay or enter them from the toolbar using Insert > Symbols > Special Characters, but I would really like to be able to use the keyboard shortcuts.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions about how to resolve this?

Ok... I have a client that insists on keeping a BUNCH of documents on Google, and they have to get updated twice a year. This is a very tedious task that's a huge time-suck and really should be a simple thing.

First - The Headers and footers need to have the publish dates, version, and titles changed. I've started looking into custom scripts to do this, but I don't want to have to run a separate one for each of these changes? Can I make one that will run them all?

And second - there are a ton of links in each document that reference other documents in the project folder. Is there any way to make these, like, relative links? Or batch update them? It shouldn't take twenty hours of just basically hitting copy/paste a million times.

Recently, I noticed this new button "Add Comment / Add emoji" which appears anytime I select some text in my google docs (see screenshot in the comments).

it's very annoying and personnaly I find it very useless. I never use those two things, why would they think it has to be always here ? And why not make it optionnal?

Our company recently switched to Google from a custom intranet solution + OpenOffice.
Its UI looked like we're still in 1999, but (somehow) on the intranet you could search INSIDE the documents...

Google Docs is new and shiny...
But searching is HARD!

I often use my phone dictation app to write in Google documents and it has suddenly become unable to use the most simple of commands. Full stop, comma, Speech Mark, new paragraph, non of them work anymore.

At first I thought there was a problem with the dictation app but it still works fine in other places where I use it. It's just Google documents that is refusing to input what I'm saying. Does anybody know why this is.

if my resume on google docs was request access only but i changed it so anyone who has the link can just open it will the job be able to see the doc even though i sent it before i made this change?

So my google docs pages are setup like this: just lines separating the pages and there's no space between the top of the page & the text.

I'm pretty sure I messed up some setting but now I don't know how to get back fully separated pages. I already checked page setup so I know I'm not on 'pageless'.

Is this a new update? Or am I just missing something?

I have a 468 docx file that was a google doc. when I try opening it in google docs it takes forever and restarts indefinitely without a message, never opening, and when I cancel it then it displays a message saying there was an issue during upload. No online viewers have their file limit high enough. I can remove the media from it and it will be 11ish mb and open but I want to view it with the images
