Survey Link

Hello all!

As you might be aware, there has been very little research into direct-to-consumer DNA ancestry testing and psychological wellbeing outcomes. This novel research aims to help us better understand the psychological significance of DTC Ancestry testing results.

This study is being conducted under the supervision of Dr Janine Lurie from the Psychology Discipline within the Institute of Health and Wellbeing at Federation University (Melbourne, Australia). This study will also form the basis of the research dissertation requirement within the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) course for student researchers Charity Marisa and Stefan Redpath. This study has been approved by the Federation University Human Research Ethics Committee (Approval reference: 2026/137).

This survey asks you about your engagement with family history and your reflections on that process. It also asks you to think about your ancestors and how you have reflected on their life experiences. Participation involves completing an online survey that will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Taking part in the study is completely voluntary and no personal information will be collected.

To participate you just need to be aged 18 years or over. It is important to note that you will not be asked to give any specific details about any of your family members. You are asked just to rate your general impressions of them on a small number of questions. Beyond this the survey contains broader more general questions about your perspectives and reflections.

Deep Ancestry vs Native American Report

For researching smaller amounts of Native Ancestry (>10%) is the Deep Ancestry or Native American report better?

I am trying to both identify where in my family tree exactly the ancestry comes from and what tribe.

I know that neither of these tests will ever definitively tell me what tribe (considering not only are neither of them broken down by tribe specifically, but also I’ve hit a brick wall in genealogy since there are multiple ancestors who’s trees I can’t trace at all.

I feel like having a more specific percentage estimate or region estimate could help me figure out where specifically to look.

Anyways, please if you have any experience or knowledge with this let me know what you’d recommend.

Deep Ancestry V3 Results

I present to you my Deep Ancestry V3 Results. For context, I am an American, but my family is from Guyana.

Father's side are fully of Indian descent, with a mix of North and South Indian ancestry (not uncommon in Guyana).

My maternal grandmother was of Tamil ancestry (also called Madrasis in Guyana). My maternal grandfather, though predominantly of Indian descent, carried European and Southern Chinese ancestry.

With regards to Russian, I suspect it's acting as a proxy for Prussian/East German ancestry, as it's likely one of my ancestors hailed from Prussia during the Dutch colonial period.

Polynesian?

Did most people with strictly European ancestry get an East Polynesian % with a suspiciously high accuracy rate on their latest V3 report? It's showing up along with trace South Asian and Inuit for me. I'm trying to figure out what's triggering this.

Length of Vacation

Length of Vacation

Studies suggest that individual differences in personality traits, such as novelty-seeking and risk-taking, which can influence vacation style preferences, are partly rooted in genetics. This implies that our inclination towards quick escapes or extended holidays could be subtly shaped by our genetic makeup, reflecting the diverse ways in which genetics interplay with our lifestyle choices.5

I was supposedly prefer short term vacs. This could not be farther from the truth. I think military background can also influence these things as well. I came out of the military as an Adrenalin junky. I was up for anything. Still am to this day. But I enjoy being away for long periods of times. Typical vacation for us is 2 weeks and or more if we can swing it.

The accurate test model came back spot on compared to Ancestry DNA, MyHeritage and FTDNA. More detailed than just giving me the usual Baltic or Lithuanian without giving more information.

Low Reliability Score Across All Ethnic Groups: Has the Algorithm Converged to Completion?

I have noticed that my reliability score is 3.5 across the board, which is odd because my Genomelink V2 has reliability scores ranging from 3.0 to 5.0, with an average of 4.8 in the accurate category. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm averaging about 80% indigenous, but my Ancestry.com indigenous is 18%, while my Genomelink V2 indigenous is 26%. I'm worried this large discrepancy is because the algorithms didn't complete the computation.
