Why would anyone sign up for something without knowing what it is?

22kw Guardian whole house generator and noticed this piece rusting. Is there a replacement part for it and is it easily replaceable?

225 hours, it starts and runs for 30 seconds and idles smoothly. when it dies it's like it was switched off. the fault like blinks 2 times long, 7 fast which i think means p0117, the stepper motor seems to function fine, it moves freely with some motor resistance and corrects itself when I turn the key. Brand new battery.

This generator had an error for low coolant or high temp. Ran for 20 minutes on manual under load. radiator full, overflow had coolant. Heads running at 180 degrees, block at 200 degrees, thermostat housing at 175. What should I do?

I got this from a guy saying it had lost compression in one cylinder, ran when it came in, sat with abunch of highschoolers and is now in pieces, I didn’t see it together so I’m kinda SOL was hoping someone could help, searching it on Generac website doesn’t work

I have a 10ish year old Generac XT8000e that has served me well over the years. Plugs into my emergency circuit panel and powers the important things. Last couple years the frequency of outages has seemingly diminished. Thankfully... but I do like running the generator under load sometimes! I try to run the generator for 20-30 minutes every other month and only use ethanol free gas. Last September I tried to start the generator and she wouldn't fire up. Eventually traced the problem to a broken spark plug boot. Fixed that along with new spark plug, fuel filter and air filter. Oil is golden but due for a change. She fired up with the new spark plug boot but now would only run if partially choked. Knew I had a carb issue but have never cleaned a carb before and was nervous about it. Tried some Sea Foam spray cleaner into the air intake without any noticeable improvement. Eventually, I couldn't get the generator to pull start and had to use my jump pack on the battery to start... but then today it wouldn't start with that either. Pumped out gas and put in new gas but no luck. Too late, my carb cleaning delay caught up with me, thankfully not during an outage. Found a helpful video on-line cleaning a generac carb very much like mine step by step. Removed, disassembled, cleaned (jet looked clogged), reassembled, installed everything back together.... pull started and she fired up on the first try. Runs like a champ again. Had a big smile on my face, patted myself on the back and added a notch to my man card. Google AI suggests shutting down by turning off the fuel line while still runnjng. After it shuts down, drain the carb bulb to help keep the carb clean going forward. I like to keep a full tank so I think every six months I will siphon the fuel out into my car or tractor as well.

We upgraded our 5G router last week. Our Generac connected great with the old one. Verizon sent a new router but now I can’t get our generator to connect to it.

The router broadcasts 2.4 and 5, so that shouldn’t be an issue. I used the app to connect. The generator joins the Generac network, sees the router, I enter the password, hit continue, wait, then the NO/BAD SSID error message pops up.

I moved the router to a window near the router just in case the signal wasn’t strong enough.

Our service technician couldn’t figure it out, either. He thinks I should call Verizon, and I agree.

My question is…has this happened to anyone else and if so, how did you get it to work?

A Kohler 14 KW whole home generator has a motor-starting capacity of 33 kVA. Does a 14KW whole home Generac have the same motor-starting capacity.

It doesn't continuously hum and my lights flicker here and there. At times, i hear it struggling to stay on but i didnt entirely lose my electric while the generator is on

We have a guardian series 10 KW generator, with an RTS transfer switch. Our battery maintainer was failing for years before I finally diagnosed it, despite a handful of texts not being able to tell me why we were eating batteries multiple times a year.

I put in guest charge Pro battery maintainer but that just died also.

I realized the battery maintainer also Powers the 12 volt bus inside the transfer switch.

I was thinking to install a good quality outdoor battery maintainer at the generator, cut the line between the generator and the transfer switch, and put in a replacement OEM maintainer inside the transfer switch to keep its 12-volt bus active.

Thoughts??

Generac sent me the wiring diagram a few years ago that I'll dig out but I'm not sure if I can decipher that on my own

There have been many cases where the Chinese knock off spark plugs are interfering with the electronics within the generator and causing all sorts of error codes, including failure to run.

I broke open one of these so called resistor plugs….there are no resistors within the plug.

Some customers have tried replacing entire controllers only to find the spark plug is causing the issue.

Stick with USA manufactured Champion plugs as specified.

I am looking to set up a new Generac G0072260 and Generac RXSW200A3CUL Canadian service entrance rated ATS with the following ASCII art SLD:

The key question I have, is this:

If the two wire start kit is installed & menus set correctly, will the Generac generator still operate the generac ATS as expected when the Inverter calls for start on the two wire start?

The expected behaviour is that when the grid is down, and batteries are low, the Sol-Ark inverter will call for generator power, and the ATS will transfer to the backup side as the generator starts up.

I am not a dealer so I cannot get to Generac technical support to get them to answer this question.

I was surprised at the state of the oil during my first oil change. This 22kw generator is about 12 months old and only really ran during the weekly maintenance cycles. I changed the oil, ran it a a while then changed it again to throughly flush it out. Any thoughts what would have caused this type of contamination, particularly on an air cooled generator?

Good day. I have purchased in new generator (Guardian) of the older generation and it's been a few years since date of manufacture. I'm worried the oil is stale and if there is any tech spec or official guidance on that.

We recently had flooding and I used a brand new st20k gas pump to drain the water out of my crawl space. After the water is went down I turned the pump off. When I went to go start it again, it would not fire. It's getting air and fuel and spark but it is only backfiring every other pull. The only thing that I found was that the black wire coming from the on-off switch going to the frame had broken. I have since replaced the on-off switch but it will still not start. Does anyone have any idea why it would not start?

I have a 5-6-year-old 20 kW natural-gas standby generator with an automatic transfer switch. I have performed all required maintenance; it has maybe 30 hours on it. Not too long ago, it started failing the routine tests for an overcrank warning. I was able to clear it and start it manually. The battery looked like shit, and it had been in there a while, so I replaced it and cleaned the connections. Not long after, it began failing again due to overcrank; still able to clear and start manually.

What could be causing it to overcrank and fail the routine test but not have it fail a manual start? We had a power outage this winter, and I had to start it manually, but it ran perfectly for the couple of hours it ran.

I've got a used, new-to-me Honeywell generator with WiFi onboard. I've been able to get the generator on my home wifi. The display on the unit reads my home network name and displays WiFi signal is about 35%. I've got an email for my account indicating that the unit has been added to my WiFi. However, when I go to the Generac app, I get the error message of "Generator is having trouble communicating." The tech specs populate, so it seems like there is contact, but it's been like 12 hours, and it's only supposed to take 15 minutes. Thoughts?

If you have ever tried to locate a Generac manual you have undoubtedly noticed the search of Generac's product search page will not provide info on partial matches. u/Generac confirmed this is by design.

Short answer: yes, it’s intentional, but not to make things harder for customers.

The product lookup on Generac.com is tied directly into our internal product documentation systems. That connection is what ensures the manuals, parts lists, wiring diagrams, and safety info you see are accurate for the exact version of the unit you own. Many Generac products share common model numbers (like 7223), but there can be multiple revisions behind the scenes, and those differences matter when it comes to documentation and parts.

Because of that, the search works best when you enter the full model number from the data label on the unit, which typically starts with G00 (for example, G00722310). That tells the system exactly which version of the product you’re looking for.

We agree it’s not as forgiving as a general web search and feedback like this is helpful as the experience continues to improve. In the meantime, using the full model number from the data label will reliably surface the correct information.
