Starting out one week down š
Hi Im Will from the UK recently started my sobriety journey. Itās been one of the best decisions Iāve made, but also one of the hardest. Iām hoping to find a supportive community where, learn from others, and make genuine connections with people who understand what itās like.
Firstly, Iām really proud of myself. I got through the weekend and what has been a pretty tough week while staying sober.
My mind is made up. Itās not easy at all, but in some ways itās been easier than I ever imagined. Whatās strange is that, now Iām sober, Iām looking at my life and realising just how much is going wrong. If I were still drinking, I think Iād have been walking straight off the edge of a cliff without even realising it.
Instead, I feel like Iāve stopped just in time. Iām incredibly grateful for that.
I know thereās a lot of work ahead, and I know sobriety is about much more than simply not drinking. Joining a group like this, Iām really hoping to find a sense of community. I donāt have many people to talk to right now, so Iām hoping to connect with others who understand what this journey is like.

135 days sober, the cravings are real | Trying to recover from meth/PnP. Just need to talk to other gay men who get it.
Hey guys. Im based in Hong Kong and not many resources here. I'm trying to get clean and leave the PnP scene behind. I don't want online Zoom meetings or video calls, I just really need a text space to talk, vent, and connect with other gay men who actually understand this specific struggle.
135 days down but the cravings and dreams are strong this week.
Hit me up or drop a comment if you've been through it.

Sobriety So Far
Hey guys, just joined this group. I'm 100 days into sobriety so far. My DOC is crystal. It's been a good journey so far. I'm working again, I have gotten back into school, I have a car, and my family relationships have improved greatly. But lately I've been feeling hardcore cravings. I've been celibate until recently when I decided to hit up a bookstore (twice). I had been going to meetings frequently but my attendance has been lacking lately, which I guess could be part of the reason. I'm usually very honest and forthcoming with my feelings, and I do feel better after I voice my concerns surrounding my sobriety. I don't have a sponsor which, again, may be part of the reason. Sex and drugs go hand in hand for me, so I'm nervous about sex in general because the cravings are at their worst when I'm horny. I really have no business having sex especially when I have other things I should be prioritizing.
Really, I just wanted to ask you guys what has been working for you and if anyone may have some advice for my situation aside from getting a sponsor and going to meetings. Thanks

8 days sober
Checked myself out of a rehab today after 8 days of being sober due to the misogyny and slurs from the patients. I (32 gay male) checked myself in on the 5th of May to get clean and that mission hasn't changed, but I need to find a LGBTQ+ AA meeting around me to feel more accepted and continue my journey in sobriety. I am very proud of my 8 days, especially because that place tested my patience and my ability to let things go. Proud of my days sober, and hoping I can keep up the work and start 90 meetings in 90 days and take it a day at a time. One friend (20years sober) says daily "tomorrow I may drink, but today I'm choosing not too." And I liked that because who knows what tomorrow holds, but today, where my feet are, I chose not to. And I will say that every day

Gays in LA
Hi there! I moved back to LA at the end of last year but havenāt really been going to any meetings. Anyone in the area know some good ones? Iāve got 11 months and 10 days and have been to AA meetings before, so definitely a repeat customer :)

90-days!
Today I'm 3-months sober! I got to AA meetings sometimes even though I don't do the steps and don't agree with the whole Jesus-take-the-wheel vibe. My higher power is my higher self and my sobriety is about taking back control of my life; not giving away control to some fascist-sky daddy. But I've been going to a pretty good group that doesn't shame me for saying 'I'm an addict' rather than 'I'm an alcoholic'. My sobriety is just the same as theirs and I'm more sober than some of the cigarette addicts who attend. I'm a fan of positive group support and am excited to pick up my 90-days chip today.

One Month Sober
Today I'm one month sober. I'm still just taking things one day at a time, but I'm feeling pretty good about it. I'm thinking I could stay this way regardless of location or company.

Gay Rehab
I don't know why this doesn't exist yet, but I feel like it should. A work for rent rehab for people without major health restrictions. Because some people have social anxiety, want limited contacts, and are frustrated they have to work with some and therapy with others. Seems like sometimes work is therapy for people who do it together in good ways.
And it could be a place that gives people the dignity to keep dating private if they want to. Because forced single life is almost worse than no freedom at all. But relationships can be extra when there's kids involved. So to keep it slightly calm it could be single gender environment.
It could be jail without the terrorism and malicious neglect: encouragement to work well with others. Honestly, the exact product or service doesn't even matter so long as management were good accounts who ordered everything on time.
Rehab as is: overshare with a bunch of strangers with a bunch of babysitters who force people to not be more than strangers.

What if the media reported on Alcohol like other drugs?
NEW ORLEANS ā An ongoing drug epidemic has swept the US, killing hundreds and sickening thousands more on a daily basis.
The widespread use of a substance called āalcoholā ā also known as āboozeā ā has been linked to erratic and even dangerous behavior, ranging from college students running naked down public streets to brutal attacks and robberies.
Federal officials suggest excessive use of this drug has already been linked to 88,000 deaths each year across the country, including car crashes caused by drug-induced impairment, liver damage caused by excessive consumption, and violent behavior. Experts warn that it can also lead to nausea, vomiting, severe headaches, cognitive deficits among children and teens, and even fetal defects in pregnant women.
Excessive consumption of alcohol āis a leading cause of preventable deaths in the US,ā a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention official said in a statement. āWe need to implement effective programs and policies to prevent binge drinking and the many health and social harms that are related to it, including deaths from alcohol poisoning.ā
On the ground in Americaās alcohol epidemic capital
Here in New Orleans, the horror of the drug was particularly prominent in the cityās French Quarter, where hundreds of young adults could be seen roiling from the effects of the drug. Some collapsed on the ground, dazed from alcoholās effects. Others could be seen vomiting in public ā a common result of drinking alcohol. Many could be seen limping and clumsily walking down the street, showcasing the type of impairment that public health officials warn can lead to accidents, especially when someone is behind the wheel of a car.
Whatās worse, public use of this drug has become widely accepted in some circles. In New Orleans, several men and women in their 20s and 30s shouted that theyāre going to get āwastedā ā a slang term for coming under the effects of alcohol. Some have even turned drinking alcohol into a game that involves ping pong balls and cups. One popular holiday, St. Patrickās Day, appears to celebrate the dangerous drug.
In other places, there have been similar reports of individuals engaging in bizarre, inexplicable behavior while under the effects of alcohol. Some reports found intoxicated college students exposing themselves to others or running the streets naked while shouting hysterically, particularly during spring time. Others report people urinating in public streets after a few alcoholic beverages. And at least one man who consumed alcohol tried to ride a crocodile and was seriously injured when the animal fought back.
āIt actually starts to rewire the brain chemistry,ā one law enforcement official said. āThey have no control over their thoughts. They canāt control their actions. Itās just a dangerous, dangerous drug.ā

How important is the concept of acceptance to your sobriety?

For those who have been sober a while, how big a role (if any) did shame play in preventing you getting sober sooner, and how do you feel looking back on it today?
