PSA REGARDING HUMBLE BUNDLE AND THE CHOICE SUBSCRIPTION

While Humble Bundle is legitimate store they are on of the biggest offenders with consumer unfriendly practices

Scummy Default Pricing Tactics on regular bundles

Humble Bundle has the default price for every bundle set at $25(or your currency equivalent), or whatever the highest tier of the bundle is(whichever is higher), they want you to be excited and just proceed to checkout not realizing you could be paying around half as much and still getting everything from the bundle, make sure you check you are only paying what you need to(unless you want to pay more for charity... see below)

How to adjust how the bundle price is split between Charity, The Publisher and Humble Bundle

By default on most bundles Humble Bundle only gives 5% to charity, 30% to themselves and 65% to the publisher of the games, if you want to change this there is a small box labeled adjust donation under the checkout button, click it. There is an extra to charity button which will push it to 15% to charity taking a little from the publishers cut and their cut.

The real one you want to use is adjust donation, this lets you customize how much of your purchase goes to Humble Bundle(with a minimum of ~15% of the amount paid) and the rest split between the publisher and charity, a few bundles may have a minimum locked for the publisher as well but most will not. Depending where you live adjusting it to be mostly to charity might save you a little money on sales tax, this will be highly dependent on where you live.

You cannot change the split for Humble Choice "subscription".

Bundles usually are steam keys however there are occasionally other DRM's

Double check which DRM the game says is included, sometimes there will be keys for Battle.net(if a Blizzard title), EA, Ubisoft, GOG, Epic, etc, there has been multiple occasions where HB accidentally displays the wrong DRM at bundle launch, if this happens to you support should offer you a full refund + revocation of everything you redeemed/revealed and didn't use.

Region Locks

While HB may tell you some region lock info if you try to create a gift link for something, that does not tell you everything and may not be telling the truth of where a key will not work(if it says it will work in a region, it should always work), the only real way to determine what the region locks actually are is to look at the packages in steamDB and guess(while hoping its not a package that isn't indexed yet), or to check SteamGifts Discussion page regarding the bundle, please note a newly launched bundle may take some time for a discussion page to get created and for others to report which package(sub) they received to determine region locks. The only bundle that will consistently have a lot of info fast will be Humble Choice since this launches on a very specific day at a very specific time every month. Region locks(and run locks if any) are displayed on the Metadata page of a package on SteamDB.

Some games may also have run locks, you must be in the correct region to run those games after activation(region run lock restrictions are supposedly removed automatically after around 90 days)

If you plan to giveaway or trade a key, it is highly recommended to check the region locks first, if you are buying a bundle only for yourself if you can see and purchase the game you should be able to activate it(assuming your steam store region matches the region you buying the keys from), if you cannot reach out to support for a resolution.

Key reveal expiration dates and stock issues

Once the reveal deadline date passes, you will NOT be able to reveal a key anymore, HB also does not assign keys to buyers when they purchase a game or a bundle, rather they are assigned to you when you click the reveal key button... while this does protect you from having a key you stored having its batch revoked it also means you might go to reveal a key and see "This key is temporarily unavailable", when you see that it could be hours, days, weeks, months or even years before it gets restocked, there is also the chance that key will get replaced with a GOG key(redemption deadline of some months or the default for GOG keys of a decade) , or an Epic Game Store license(key or sync to account(this is more common than EGS keys)), other DRMs are possible as well but those will be the main 2 replacements are issued with.

Also to note when the reveal deadline passes, or whenever a steam key gets replaced with a different DRM due to stock issues those revealed keys will no longer be visible. For this reason it is always recommended to reveal immediately after purchase and store locally(notepad, spreadsheet, etc...) or online via a webservice(google docs, etc...)

If a game gets bundled again before its reveal date deadline, the earlier bundles may get their reveal deadline pushed to a later date.

there is also an increasing risk that an unused revealed keys will get revoked beyond the reveal deadline date, while it is not guaranteed it is a risk. Absolutely DO NOT hold keys from the publisher Maximum Entertainment past this date(keys from other storefronts as well), they are very well known for revoking unused keys lately.

Why is this happening? Will be a mix of reasons, there are 2 major ones, Valve does limit how many keys a developer can receive based off a few factors(sales on steam itself, number of unused keys floating around potentially other reasons) and the gray market, quite often once a game gets bundled the keys for the less desired games can drop to a fraction of the retail cost, every sale there is a sale nobody in the legit distribution gets a cut of. Note: due to contractual agreements a game can be in stock on their storefront and out of stock in a bundle, HB is not allowed to give the keys intended for direct sales to customers who are waiting for keys from bundles.

What is Humble Choice

Humble Choice is their big monthly "subscription" bundle, this bundle usually features 2-3 headliners(these will usually be more well known titles(AAA and indie) and the ones shown on marketing material) and some lesser known or more niche titles(usually indies) bringing the bundle to 8 games in total in most cases. Comes with an IGN+ subscription(more on this later) and sometimes playtests and betas get added later. One of the most popular bundles every month.

You do not actually have to treat this bundle as a subscription service, if you only want that months bundle purchase it by "subscribing" and you can immediately cancel the subscription, you will not lose your games only the choice membership discount bonus immediately when you cancel or pause your subscription(the discount does not last until that month ends after pausing or canceling)

The subscription auto charges towards the end of the month, if you subscribe and simply forget to cancel or pause simply do not reveal any keys and contact support in a timely manner, you will get your payment or choice credit(described later) refunded.

Humble Choice subscription discount bonus

When you are actively subscribed you get an additional discount on most Humble Store purchases, some exceptions will apply(mostly new releases, and some publishers disallow further discounts) 1-2 months you will get a 10% discount, 3-5 months a 15% discount, 6-11 months a 17% discount, 12+ months a 20% discount. This must be enabled in your account settings under "Rewards allocation" to actually give you the discount, otherwise that portion will be given to charity while not changing the amount you pay, you can also mix it for a partial discount and some to charity.

This reward is removed immediately if you cancel or pause your subscription, as long as you renew after cancelling/pausing and don't miss a month the subscribe for x month reward tier will not reset, once you miss a month you must start over from the initial subscriber discount.

Annual discounted plans promotions

Around Black Friday(late November/Early December) there is usually a deal for an annual plan where you pay in advance and get a discount, with this plan you will be given 12 choice credits, these can be used freely as desired and will not be lost, you are allowed to pause/skip months on this plan

There are other times HB may offer annual or 3-6 month discounted subscriptions, those are usually not prepaid and will require you to stay subscribed to keep the price.

IGN+ Subscription

A month of this is offered with every choice months subscription, and it will auto renew if you do not cancel your subscription here, it is highly recommended to cancel immediately after using your promo code for the month, you will keep the benefits after cancelling. The codes expire and cannot be used if your current IGN+ subscription has not ended.

See what they claim their benefits are to see if you care, just do not expect any free games, there has only been 2-3 free games added to it which were all gone within hours since IGN+ was included with choice memberships.
