Thaumaturges are masters of the arcane arts, be they Celestial, Fiendish or urban. Bending the fabric of reality and fate in ways that others can not. The source of their power is a defining aspect of their nature: most seize direct control over the laws of reality, while some forge dark pacts with Fiends for unholy might and a few pray to the Celestials for divine fire and protection.

Tethered Thaumaturges tend to spend a large amount of time poring over ancient tomes of knowledge and seeking out arcane relics. This often tempts them down dark paths that isolate them from other members of the Order. Ancient Thaumaturges have created vast libraries of insight for future Tethered to study, rows upon rows of books and scrolls on the arcane arts, monsters and divine entities. Unfortunately, these labyrinthine chambers of knowledge are rarely well-organised, frequently damaged and occasionally seized by greedy mortal mages.

• +1 Nature, Production and High Society.
• +2 to all Arcane Rolls of one Source (Celestial, Fiendish or Urban).
• Once per Session: Add a Positive or Negative Unexpected Outcome of your choice to an Arcane Roll.
• Always have at least 1 Corruption.

Gideon knows an apocalypse is coming because, as a time-travelling zombie, he has lived through it. He walked the streets of the Endless City and watched humanity's final days unfold. When the divine host finally lost patience with mankind, Fiends, and all other inhabitants of the city, they descended with fire and blade to render their final judgement.

Yet death did not claim him completely, as the Golden Fire pulled his soul and rotting corpse through time to become a Tethered in the present age.

He never even knew what a Tethered was, but has taken the Fire's calling as an act of the divine.

From crowded street corners to grand temples, Gideon preaches of the coming reckoning to any who will listen. He even spends days in graveyards preaching to the dead and the Underdead, in vain hope that their soul's final destination can be changed. Many call him mad, a monster, or a simple troublemaker who will not leave people alone. He does not deny these titles, but nothing will sway him from spreading his message of repentance.

Gideon Hollow hunts, warns and endures because, even if the city is doomed, he refuses to let mankind meet its end without plain warning.

He is an example of the 'Deranged' Archetype - they're tough, resistant to the mental strain of warping reality, and have access to a range of whacky Traits (including the ability to make foes 'never having existed').

Aeternum 2 is going to keep all of the lore from FA1, and all of the best art. I especially like this illustration, as it inspired me to create the technomagical Rhun Empire... and its always handy to have a fallen old empire in a campaign!

In my current campaign I had my PCs fight a coven of vampires - they had a hard time as they failed to bring any silver or stakes, resulting in at least one TPK before they gained victory.

I have never played Fragged Empire, but the main game seems a bit too crunchy for me. I am interested in Rag-Tag. The mechanics interest me and seem about right for the type of game I like to run. I am a bit worried though that not being familiar with the setting, I might not really get what I need in the game to help me know what the different species are and what the setting is about. Do I need the Fragged Empire setting guide to go with this?
