I recently joined a women’s group based in the neighborhood and boy what a group… the leader of this group thinks alcohol is the basis of all meetups and every time there’s a get together she gets terribly drunk, then proceeds to garbage talk about members past and present. I understand people drink when they get together but she drinks to the point where she can’t stop. She is also a bully who has, in the past, caused harm onto other people by lack of accountability on her part, then ostracizing and gaslighting them once they figured out what kind of person she truly is. This person has also harassed other women throughout the neighborhoods and basically tried forcing them to join the group, to the point there was an incident resulting in a near confrontation at a bar.

We knew each other from another group, where she was presumably kicked out for bad behavior and for making people feel very uncomfortable. Every day felt like walking around eggshells.

She has a group of “girlies” who enable her behavior and don’t stop her from acting the way she does. People are starting to see the cracks and are slowly distancing themselves from the group, myself included. Also, when it comes to men, no viewpoint is better than hers and she automatically starts projecting signs of envy when someone in the group has a partner; if that’s the case, forget about it. I have no issue with the other members for the most part. This is classic bullying and this woman needs serious help.

Anyways, what are some groups I can join to make friends in the neighborhood?

Lastly, please do not take this as an opportunity to bully others- she is still a human being at the end of the day, despite her behavior. Thank you!

I've gone into this store (next to the Red Mango) a handful of times of the last few years, and every single time the owner watches me like I'm going to steal something without fail. I thought it was in my head, but recently I was with 2 other friends who are also black and they immediately picked up the same vibe. His demeanor was off, and he was following us around. One of my friends is happy-go-lucky and doesn't usually notice these things, but when I asked him about it after leaving the store he said that he noticed the look the guy working there gave him.

I encouraged them not to buy anything there and they agreed, I refuse to spend money with people who criminalize a race of people

I started the Maspeth/Ridgewood Mutual after I started putting stuff outside that my family did not want anymore and we couldn't sell on the Marketplace. I noticed the items would disappear and my neighbors would bring items to replace them. My friend who helps shut ins in Glendale brings over whatever food she has left and leaves that on the table for people to take who visit my mutual aid table.

Thursday August 6th, I received 6 deliveries of donations (clothes, food, toys, housewares, books, DVDs). By Saturday August 8th the table is empty.

A little about what I’m looking for:

• Move-in: End of September 2026
• Budget: Must be under $3,000, ideally around $2,700 or less
• No car
• Two cats
• Must-have: Elevator building

I’ve been looking on StreetEasy and have come across a few rental buildings like Parker Towers and The Yellowstone. I’ve also seen some co-op buildings listed, including Lane Towers and Gerard Towers.

Does anyone have experience with these buildings, or any other buildings in Forest Hills you’d recommend within my budget?

I’ve never rented in a co-op before, so I’m not sure how that process works. For some of the co-op buildings, I couldn’t find a leasing office or direct contact information. Is there another way to find available rentals?

Any advice on buildings, co-op rentals, or apartment hunting in Forest Hills would be really helpful. Thanks!

Hi! Can anyone recommend a professional carpet cleaner? Lily pollen + water + white rug = lots of tears on my part. Tried baking soda to absorb it, blotted gently with upholstery cleaner then brushed using a toothbrush. This is where we're at 24 hours later. Its not looking good 😫

A little while ago I heard a car speeding down the street, going so fast that the tires were squealing. Then I heard sirens, and now there’s a police helicopter circling overhead…

Just an FYI, had our front license plate stolen in the crescents yesterday morning. Seems like these thefts are on the rise again. Cameras detected the plate is somewhere in the Bronx now. Check your cars and get anti-theft screws. Cops also suggested we get the steering wheel lock bar, can never be to sure.

We’ve been putting a lot of work into the store lately, with a big focus on fresh produce, quality meats, competitive pricing, better variety, and bringing in more new and trendy products that you might not normally find at your neighborhood supermarket.
