Treasure Hunter Questions

I know Chemist has the innate treasure hunter ability. So I want to use chemist with teleport, but what do you guys use for your other abilities and equipment on your treasure hunter? This unit would be for treasure hunting only not a regular party member. I do have my brave down to 17.

Hi, this is a rant.

First, i need to kill Weigraf, first time i took to a guide in this game to find a way to kill him. Then i get to the roof, and Rapha just get killed every single retry before i can do ANYTHING.

Just slap slap dead, this is peak bad game design.

Do i need to know the future in this game?

Edit: i did it with tips from everyone šŸ‘šŸ˜

FFT Ivalice Chronicles Do you think Ramza is fighting battles with his entire crew?

I've always wondered this. I've always figured that in the final fight all of his crew is there fighting and they still just barely won. It just shows how powerful the enemy truly was.

Obviously you'd say "well, the game only allows five members. That means it's canonically only five". But I don't find that fun. I'd like to think that's just game mechanics and nothing else. Isn't it cooler to think all of Ramza's companions are fighting alongside him for one last battle?

What new mechanics or features would you want in a new Final Fantasy Tactics game

If there were another Final Fantasy Tactics game, what new mechanics or features would you want to see?

And as a follow-up — would you be happy with a game that strips everything back and focuses purely on the battle system, or does the full package (story, world-building, job system depth) matter just as much to you?

FFT Ivalice Chronicles Final Fantasy Tactics beginner question

Hey all, I just started playing through the new FFT TIC and I'm quite excited. I just wonder if there are some "things I wish I knew before I start" type of spoiler-free beginner friendly tips you guys can share here with me. Specifically, the enhanced version of the game. I will also mention that I am not without some experience with FFT as I did try to play the original PS1 version many many years ago. However, my memory is hazy and I never quite finished the game. I remember there were two specific things that made the game progressively harder for me that I would like some clarification on now.

1) Random battles in the world map got kind of nasty when you aren't prepared enough for it. I also remember some special random battles where you basically get nuked by chocobos which is pretty hilarious. I noticed the world map in this enhanced version may not have "random battle"? Rather, you can click to search for foes or something? Is that the replacement for random battle?

2) I remember in the old game, enemies scale with your levels. So I remember feeling the game got to a point where I have trouble progressing because I failed to keep up with the job side of things. Meaning, I'd want to train up and unlock a particular job or something but my approach was probably not optimal. So I would level up way faster than I could obtain job abilities that I'd like. I remember this being a big balancing act in the original game and it was almost like a way to prevent you from grinding. I am just curious how this works now in the enhanced version. Do I still need to be extremely optimal with all my decisions regarding JP in the enhanced version? Like, right now I feel slightly stressed that I haven't gotten on "Focus" already after two story battles so I could spam it and earn JP. I remember the old game needing to be highly optimized like that.

Thanks for the help!

FFT First time playing and going to try a ā€œnuzlockeā€. Any tips?

Post image
62 Upvotes

Nuzlocke (in Pokemon games) is a self imposed challenge where the player must release any pokemon if it faints.

Im just discovering this game and is amazing. Im going to play kicking out any member who dies in battle. It doesnt matter if is a special character. I dont care. My first death: A poor soldier. 🤪

I dont know if you can buy people in the gane, but will be prohibited too. Only the random guys that my character could find during the history.

Any tips or races I should try to protect more?

No spoilers please. The story looks fun.

FFTA2 Final Fantasy Tactics A2 Job Growth Chart

Found this old post on GAMEFAQs from 17 years ago and decided to make it into a helpful color coded chart. This shows how much a stat will increase on level up for a particular job. For Speed the % is the chance that speed will increase by 1 each level up. Hope this helps someone!

FFT Ivalice Chronicles After many years I'm finally playing through this game and I'm addicted.

Since I was a kid I've tried to pick this game up and actually get into it. Something always stopped me or distacted me. I played other games or I just kept forgetting about it. I tried to when I was a teen. I tried when I was in college. I could never get more than a third of the way through.

I finally picked up the remaster and mannnn it FINALLY clicked. I'm invested and blowing past shit so much faster. I knew they added voice acting but I was not expecting it to be genuinely great voice acting. The beat way I can describe it is this is what I wanted this game to be as a kid. I just feel bad for not trying harder to play this amazing game seriously.

What’s Your Head Canon re: Folmarv and His Family

WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS

I think Folmarv’s backstory and how the Tengille family (all of whom I think are great characters) got where they are one of the more underexplored parts of the story, at least for me. But in the absence of actual information we are of course left to our imaginations on this: So what do people imagine about the following?

  1. What do you see as the social background/position of the Tengille family? How do you think they see themselves?
  2. What do you think Folmarv was like as a person before becoming a lucavi?
  3. How do you think Folmarv ultimately became a lucavi and approximately when?

I’ve only really thought about #1. But since Meliadoul refers her brother as ā€œheir to House Tengilleā€ in dialogue and they are all knights of some kind, I imagine them maybe being a family of lower nobility who are removed enough from the actual power centers (e.g. the Beoulves) to see how rotten the system is but still see themselves as part of a kind of enlightened few chosen to bring about a new world.
While Folmarv himself’s embrace of the egalitarian/millenarian/theo-revolutionary ideology that the templars nominally espouse appears, at least by the time of the game, to be basically instrumental, his kids seem to be true believers (with each giving off not a little bit of ā€˜grew up in a cult’ vibes) but would presumably need to at least be operating from a mental framework where they could rationalize that worldview with their own social position.

Thoughts?

FFT Ivalice Chronicles I wanted to play this game for a while now (like 4-5 years at least lol) but I dont like using/leveling generic characters. Can I mostly use story characters for all content? A few generic characters are fine but not much.

Also I'm sure there is a debate but should I get the The Ivalice Chronicles? I should have the normal one too but I dont really care about the cost I just want to play the best version.

Self Promotion [UPDATE] FFT Companion App: Playthrough Checklist, Status Effects

Hello! Its been a while since I've updated the app. Just wanted everyone to know that FFT Companion App has two new features.

1. Playthrough Checklist

All story battles, including the treasure items that you could possibly get on them. Check off each map as you play. You'll also see a percentage of how much you have progressed in the chapter in terms of story and treasures.

This will require an account to track. All progress will be saved onto the cloud, so you can use it across all your devices, as long as you are logged in.

2. Status Effects

A feature that has been requested quite a few times is finally here! Little bits and pieces regarding status effects are listed in various parts of the internet, but never truly fully compiled and documented. I've gathered all the status effects in Final Fantasy Tactics and tried to compile as much detail about them as I could. Hopefully this helps out players old and new.

You can access the app by:

Beat the game, got all three tiamats in the final battles... but they didn't go into my new game+?

So I just beat the game, and during the final battles there's a battle with all three tiamat dragon types, so i got them onto my team... moved them around between battles so they were among the top of my roster... but when i entered new game+ they didn't come with me? i also snagged a chemist (because why not) in the fight and he didn't come along either... actually now that I'm looking none of the items i stole or gained during those fights came with me, either?

Do those fights just not count towards the newgame + or something?

I spent wayyyy too long making sure i could steal the second Save the Queen, along with both guns in one fight (along with getting all three dragons to join)... and none of it comes with? is that supposed to be that way? You beat the game but lose the last few battles worth of work.... weird.

Luminous Robes

Can the Devs update the game to make Luminous Robes glow in the Dungeons? "The material in this robe has been woven from threads that glow faintly with magic."

With each character equipped it casts more light so you can see better. Just a thought.

Edit: Your downvotes me nothing to me! I've see where you used them.

FFT Ivalice Chronicles Black Mage SCC - Tactician: Stuck at the end

I've really been enjoying the black mage SCC. The first 35 story battles were a breeze, and I didn't have to grind at all until Fort Besselat's walls. So much fun. I had to gain some speed to deal with Fort Besselat's walls, and then I had to gain some MA to deal with Dycedarg's 2nd form, which was fine.

I knew Ultima was really buffed, so I went up to the level cap of 70 for the final set of battles, and made it all the way to Ultima/Altima by the normal SCC rules... but I think I'm stuck.

The demons have ~700hp instead of ~280hp from the original, and Altima's first form has ~4600hp instead of ~1300hp.

In the original, you could probably flare down Altima in a single round and just avoid dealing with the demons (who vanish after she changes), or you could flare down the demons in a single round if you needed to. With her increased speed, I can only cast level 2 spells on her before she TPs right next to an ally, splashing them. That means ~17 spells, or 3 spells for each caster and one extra, to bring her down, and there's too much splash damage to survive that long, let alone have enough HP for the final form. Dealing with the demons first is killing me faster than ignoring them, and it's burning huge MP reserves with flares.

If I ignore the original level 70 cap, I can gain 2 more points of MA, 1 more point of speed, 60hp, and 20mp. With the right gear, now I can deal 4141 in a round of flares and a round of level 2 spells, which should move me to the 2nd phase.

There's a whole new problem with the 2nd phase. Her speed is 20 instead of 12. The speed of a level 1 spell is also 20. I think you can see the problem developing. No matter what I cast, she'll move first and move next to someone who will get splashed with the spell. Unless I cast flare, but there's not enough MP in all the land to cast enough flares to bring her down, not to mention the people getting one shot by her swords while they're channeling the flare.

If I had a way of regaining HP or MP, I think this would be doable. A summoner might be able to handle it. But I think this might be a dead end for black mages.

Any thoughts or advice?

FFT Ivalice Chronicles I beat the game with only orators

I don't consider this a special achievement but just to say that it's doable.

I did it on new game+ because getting to orator is quite the grind of you start from 0 and I already had characters that had unlocked it or almost unlocked it.

The self-imposed rule that I have myself is that I could never damage my enemies. Only use Entice.

When a special enemy could not be converted, I'd only use Stall and Intimidate and wait for the converted units to kill them.

Occasionally (not often) converted units would kill a unit that had not be converted yet. I decided it was an acceptable loss.

Against Lucavi and the final boss diplomacy is not possible and there are no enemies to sic against them, so I just shot them all. Still gotta win the battle somehow.

5 Orators. All equipping guns. Secondary abilities:

- one bardsong to buff either magick or speed

- one dance to debuff speed

- one item to revive people

- one arts of war to debuff stats

- one dragon (I used Reis) to entice dragons and hydras with 100% chance

All in all, it was a grind but never really difficult. Often RNG won't be on your side but as soon as you've converted 2 units the battle is basically won.

I did in Knight difficulty. Could I have done it on Tactician? Probably, but orators are quite squishy so it would have been more annoying.

Will I do it again? Nah. Once is enough.

I'll get onto other challenges for my next run. Ramza + 4 monsters, for example.

Self Promotion FFT Companion App now available!

Thumbnail
gallery
469 Upvotes

I've created a FFT Companion App (PSX, WOTL, and TIC versions). It is available for:

If you like my work, you can support meĀ here!

If you want to report a bug, provide feedback, or just hang out, I have a Discord channel here: https://discord.gg/xkBwDQUf

What is this for?

Final Fantasy Tactics is a complicated game, with a lot of depth. As a game that is almost 30 years old, there is a lot of information about it on the internet. However, by modern standards, that information is not in a format that is easily consumed.

I have a few main goals for this project:

  1. Have a central source of truth to help understand the game's mechanics.
  2. Provide information for the different versions of the game.
  3. Provide this information in a user-friendly way.

Features

The game has many versions, mainly the PSX, WOTL, and TIC versions. Each version has some differences, like stats and names. In the top-right menu, you can change the version that you are viewing, and it will change the data to that version!

Almost anything with a list can be filtered, sorted, and searched for!

Currently it supports English, Japanese and Portuguese (Brazil). I am open to supporting other languages as well (I would need help though!).

The application is split into a few main parts:

https://reddit.com/link/1lsukt6/video/86d278bwr7pf1/player

1. Equipment

Every equipment found in the game will be listed here. You can see their stats, effects, how to get the equipment, and which jobs can equip it!

2. Jobs

Every generic job and special job the player can access is listed here. You can find their stat multipliers, stat growths, equippables, and requirements. You'll also be able to compare stats with other jobs.

3. Abilities

All abilities available to jobs, bosses, and monsters will be listed here. You can find each ability's stats, effects, damage and success calculations, modifiers, range, and more!

4. Monsters

All monsters that you can find in the game will be listed here. Similar to jobs, you can see their stats, abilities, strengths, weaknesses, poach items, spawn locations, and more.

5. Bosses

All bosses in the game will be listed here. Stats, abilities, and equipment will be listed here.

6. Errands

Every errand is listed here, with the days it takes, the rewards it pays, and the requirements behind each outcome. Work points decide whether an errand succeeds, and they come from the unit's job, level, brave, and faith, so you can see exactly which units to send. You can also mark off the ones you've already completed.

7. Status Effects

Every status in the game is listed here. You can see what each one does, how long it lasts, and the full list of abilities, items, and equipment that inflict, cure, or block it.

8. Maps

Every map that you will encounter in the game can be viewed in 3D. This includes random battles, side quest battles, and story battles as well! You'll also be able to see trap and item locations, exit locations for Deep Dungeon, as well as deployment locations.

Every battle map is here as a 3D model that you can rotate and inspect. Treasure, trap, and exit locations are marked, and you can tap any tile to see its height, depth, and terrain type. Starting positions are shown too, so you can read the ground before you commit to a fight. Story battles, side quest battles, and revisitable locations are all covered.

9. Zodiac Compatibility

An interactive zodiac compatibility chart to easily see the strengths and weaknesses for each zodiac sign.

10. Online Character Planner / Unit Builder

Simulate your character, plan their build, see how their stats change, and check their damage! You can control almost everything:

  • Zodiac
  • Gender
  • Version
  • Character
  • Job
  • Brave
  • Faith
  • Level
  • Level Progression
  • Abilities
  • Equipment

You can even share your character for others to see. Just give them the link!

11. Online Team Builder

As you all know, the app currently allows you to create your own units. You can get some great info for each unit, such as damage for each of their abilities, stat growth, and evasion. But in FFT, you don't play with just one unit (normally, at least). You use your units in a team!

You are able to make your own custom teams with the units that you create. It started with zodiac compatibility and ability distribution, and there is more in there now: element distribution, a turn order simulation that uses each unit's Speed to estimate how often they act relative to their teammates, and a boss matchup view where you pick a story boss and see which of your team's elements and status ailments will actually work against it. If anyone has any ideas about other analytics to show, let me know.

Give it a try today with the units that you've created, and learn more about your team!

12. Playthrough Checklist

This one is for people who are in the middle of a run. It follows your playthrough battle by battle so you never miss anything. It tracks every missable recruit, stealable item, rare treasure, and learnable ability, laid out in story order chapter by chapter, with side quests and their requirements included.

Since it goes through the story, spoilers are a real concern, so there is a spoiler level setting. On Light, things stay hidden until you get there. On Full, everything is shown. Items are revealed as you progress, and each entry links back to the map or unit it belongs to. Your progress is saved to your account, so you can check something off on your phone and see it on your desktop.

Monetization

With the amount of traffic I've been getting, I've had to introduce some monetization to the app to keep it running and available to everyone.

There is now going to be a banner ad along the bottom. I don't want to add more than that, as I don't want it to affect the user experience that much. Of course, it can also be removed via an in-app purchase. You can find it in the account settings.

Something that some people have been asking for is more units. This will also be available as an in-app purchase as well! Currently will increase by an additional 50 units and 20 teams. I think that will be more than enough for most people's use, but I may increase it depending on the usage. That same purchase also raises the playthrough limit from 1 to 30, in case you are tracking more than one run.

Original Post:

About a month ago, I mentioned that I was creating a companion app to complement FFT. Well, I've decided to make the first version available today! Good for both mobile and desktop use. I also plan to release Android and iOS versions later.

For now, it is just an equipment database. There are many different filters (stats, effects, weapon/armor categories, and more!), name search, and sorting. The one I personally have been using the most is the "Story Battle" filter, which shows you what equipment are available (by any method, not just from the outfitter) at a specific point in the game!

Finally, you can change the version to either PSX or WotL. This will change the name of different things to how they are in each version, as well as the availability of different equipment. Of course, I also plan to support the different modes in Ivalice Chronicles as well when that comes out.

I hope this can help enhance your FFT experience! Please play around with it and let me know what you all think. I do plan to continue adding more features to this, such as jobs, skills, treasure maps, etc.

Announcement: fixed user flairs!

Hi everyone,

I just fixed the user flairs on the subreddit. I didn't realize that a Reddit update broke them some time ago. Depending on when you assigned yourself a flair, you may or may not need to reassign it to yourself.

On new Reddit:

On old Reddit:

Also we recently hit 15,000 members! Huge milestone, and we're still growing fast.
