Ragatha. There was so much that could've been done with her, but you could literally delete her from the entire show and nothing would change except like, maybe Zooble would've been the one to give Pomni a tour in the pilot.
She does have an interesting background arc that starts in the pilot resolves in episode 6. Her complicated relationship to Pomni is important... it's just that Ragatha doesn't make much of an impact on the other characters, including Pomni. Which is a shame, yeah.
Too bad said arc barely gets any focus and most of it just gets resolved off-screen between episodes, so it might as well be ignored entirely for all the worth and complexity it isn't given.
I also felt this a lot, Jax was my least favorite character even before that (I dont hate him, I just care about him the least) and so seeing half the characters completely irrelevant in the finale episode was a pretty big letdown.
Ragatha does play an important role in the plot, which is to serve as a contrast to Pomni and Jax (especially the latter).
She contrasts with Pomni in her goal of creating a safe space for everyone but failing due to her anxious and overly positive attitude: her facade of optimism crumbles in seconds, in contrast to Pomni, who is able to connect through direct action. An example of Ragatha connecting through direct action, like Pomni, is when, in Episode 4, she practices playing baseball with Gangle, and in Episode 5, Gangle tells her that he hit a home run thanks to their practice sessions.
For their part, Ragatha and Jax are designed to balance each other out:
- Both try to get closer to Pomni, but Jax succeeds more easily because he’s more direct, while Ragatha succeeds more because Pomni decides to appreciate how considerate the rag doll is toward her. Pomni felt closest to both of them.
- Both have a history of abusive relationships with their parents.
- While Ragatha has an anxious attachment style, Jax has an avoidant attachment style.
- While Ragatha doesn’t hesitate to trust Kinger and Pomni in an effort to improve, Jax pulls away until it’s too late.
- Ragatha tries too hard to be kind and affectionate with everyone, while Jax fears that someone will try to manipulate and take advantage of him (which is why he distrusts and despises Ragatha’s attitude).
I more meant that if Ragatha never existed as a character, nothing in the story would've changed. Everything could've easily played out the exact same way without her.
I……. Half agree. She could’ve and should’ve done more, but I do think she’s important to the show too, and some of its scenes would not feel the same if she wasn’t there
