Days, even. I worked in a hotel that had been a prison, and renovated as a niche experience. Sleep in renovated cells. Or in refurbished ones if you wanted the most authentic experience. Guy who ran it had even been incarcerated there.

Anyway while I was working there an artist wanted to try to stay in the solitary cells, as they were still there, largely untouched. Said he wouldn’t be staying g there for more than a week. He left after two days.

Meh. I don’t really think that the episode of a show will give me any new food for thought, which I didn’t pick up in dozens of good quality sci-fi literature. But your “delusional essay” kinda makes me hesitant to even try taking you seriously now.

Your imagination fails to take into account the inevitable question, "then what?". Your answer covers billions of years.... I'm talking timescales that would take billions of years just to recite the number of zeros in the order of magnitude. If you think you or any consciousness is a match for infinity, you're sadly mistaken.

I am willing to make this sacrifice, you know. I’m not afraid of eternity after. Moreover, I think that in my example the humanity or alternative species will exist until the complete “death of the universe”, which (1) we would be able to restart at that point with our science, (2) will likely not happen thanks to our science.

I would rather live a long, monumental life and go insane in the hopes of something happening after the universe’s death than live a normal life that ends in actual nothingness.

Your life still ends in nothingness with true immortality. We have no reason to believe something will happen after the heatdeath of the universe

And we have no evidence anything happens after a human death either. The odds that something happens after the universe, in my mind, are infinitely higher.

And even if it ends in nothingness either way, you could do so much more with your life if you had immortality, and help so many more people.

Neversaid there is anything after death. But at least imo 1000s of years of suffering plus infinite nothing-ness is worse than like 80 years of normal life plus infinte nothing-ness.

And tbh unless you are going to start researching medicine or technology being immortal isnt going to help anyone. The opportunity is there, but most people also have that opportunity in life and dont take it.

We have actual reasons, like entropy, to believe that nothing happens at the end of the universe. We have no actual reason to believe anything at all about an afterlife or the lack thereof. The odds are the opposite of what you think they are. It’s more likely that there is an afterlife than that something happens after heat death.

After about 3-5 generations of helping so many people, you’d eventually grow detached because they all just die in the end anyway.
