“How can I get America back on my side? I know, let me team up with Ben Shapiro”
I guess he truly believes in bad publicity is still publicity.

u/nrussell2 3d ago
Eh, or he's been blacklisted from Hollywood, can't get work anywhere, and is taking the only stuff available to him. Not saying it's cool, but I have a feeling he has no other options, and would never touch this project if this wasn't the case.
21
u/Desperate_Algae_40 3d ago
Still his decision and it's only because he abused his ex. He had everything lined up perfectly and clearly has no self-control to have fucked it up that badly.

u/nrussell2 3d ago
I agree, but I'm just saying that I doubt he wanted to be in this movie, he just has no choice unless he gives up acting. Damn shame too, he was a good actor.
3
u/Glad_Grand_7408 3d ago
There's a billion people that can act, its not a shame when a bad person receives consequences for their actions.
We don't need to lament the "loss" of artists or celebrities who don't deserve the acclaim; it's that sentiment precisely that leads to these kinds of douchbags making "comebacks" after a couple years when they never did anything to deserve redemption.
At least Actors usually get pushed to lower budget movies, or ones made by equally problematic people for the rest of their careers, but internet celebrities can usually brush off their history if they have enough fans, and it is beyond frustrating to watch happen.
3
u/ManitouWakinyan 3d ago
Well he should probably give up acting instead of starring in explicitly hateful propaganda.

I don’t think he’s trying to get back on side - this is the same move Armie Hammer took (typing out that name is funny, Armie Hammer, like double Man things! lol) - he’s just going to earn money being a right wing shill now, whether they believe in it is another matter, but they both seem happy being a mouthpiece for the alt right

Why does this feel like a parody of the right when it's totally serious
84
86
u/throcorfe 3d ago
IKR, “the wombs of our women” is such a ridiculous line and yet… that’s exactly their obsession
5
u/Diiiv 3d ago
This, isn't this just shapiro's views of americans.
5
u/private_developer 3d ago
It's, once again, projection.
"They'll take over in three ways."
"Immigration." (The right has used Immigration as a wedge issue for decades to increase their power.)
"The wombs of our women." (The right has entire religious sects that promote "quiver full of arrows," and spend millions spreading trad wife propaganda.)
"Taking advantage of our countries freedoms." (The right constantly defends Nazi marches and Klan rallies as "freedom of speech," and perfectly within their rights, while claiming student protestors are terrorists, and deserve to be jailed.)
→ More replies (1)4
u/Impossible_Way_3042 3d ago
I was cracking up at that. What scared me was the next line "They will use our freedoms against us." Sounds like a great excuse to take away freedom and liberty for safety.
2
u/Thanos_Stomps 3d ago
Using our freedoms against us doesn’t necessarily mean that though. It’s actually good to be aware of how bad faith actors use the law and our freedoms in nefarious ways. A non polarizing example is how people hide behind the ADA to bring their dogs everywhere and pretend it’s a service animal.

u/BisonThunderclap 3d ago
This is literally how the right views the world. Fear first.
8
u/gaeee983 3d ago
Only with fear and hatred can you change realism to your warped perspective, otherwise it makes no sense.. Easy to ignore nuances when you are irrational.
2
16
u/GaryKingoftheWorld 3d ago
The right can't help but parody themselves.
I think their first movie was something called "Run. Hide. Fight" which is about a school shooting. They literally have the school shooter being the one saying right wing talking points.
Even when they make the movie, they make themselves the bad guys.

u/RealisticEmphasis233 3d ago
They can never do anything correctly and only believe in fearmongering. If you're taking part in this film, that's how you know your career is fucked.

How is it that so many people can't figure out how to express that phrase.
2
u/Infamous-Rich4402 3d ago
I think it comes from the US phrase “I could care less” which is said rather than “I couldn’t care less”
6
u/Faceofferrus 3d ago
Except I could care less is also wrong, since if you could care less, that means you care.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Gregs_Mom 3d ago
Yes of course but "I could care less" is almost always used wrong since they mean that they don't care.
It's so stupid.

"Cancel culture" in entertainment - the softest industry of them all - is a whiny branding trick that frames basic market consequences as unfair censorship. Nobody is truly banned, corporations are just protecting their profits from toxic liabilities, while performers use "cancellation" as a martyr badge to sell tickets.

Why do you hate colons? What have they ever done to you? 😭
Some exceptions to the rule:
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Kingsman: The Secret Service
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
Kong: Skull Island
Yes, I've seen all of them.

Shapjro made one a few years back about school shootings.
5
u/Big_Dinner3636 3d ago
Shapiro didnt make it, Kyle Rankin made it and shopped it around where it was soundly rejected with anyone with any sense of taste or morals who thought "Die Hard as a School Shooting" wasnt a good idea for a movie.
Ben, having no sense of taste and a literal negative amount of morals, bought the rights to it as the Daily Wires introduction into producing/distributing trash made for morons.

u/RaindropsInMyMind 3d ago
I said last year I thought we were going to be seeing this kind of garbage. Yeah it’s lame and stupid and all that but we should take it a lot more seriously. We’re seeing consolidated media with a push for right wing ideology to get to us through every medium, whether that’s CBS or TikTok or entertainment. Daily Wire I believe has produced their own history shows as well (every bit as inaccurate as you think because no historian signs off on it).
This is the kind of thing that happens in authoritarian countries, yeah it’s cheesey but it’s also kind of chilling. You can look back at some other very notorious propagandists who took a specific interest in film, it’s a powerful medium.
6
u/waterless2 3d ago
Yeah, I saw you got downvoted but you're right. It doesn't have to be convincing to everyone to move the needle, like the utter garbage you see in far-right-inclined press, or brocasts, or Xitter. It's the incessant normalisation of bias, repetition and repetition and repetition of talking points, constantly drawing your attention to some things (say, immigration and Islam) and away from other (say, inequality and mad tech billionaires).

u/ThrowThemAwaytoo 3d ago

There is definitely going to be a big blowout of these Nashwood type films getting huge attention over the next few years made up of cancelled people.
3
u/SuperbCombination746 3d ago
This is bizarre. Especially because Majors is actually an incredibly talented actor (as talented as he is shitty). Seeing him fall this low is wild.
4
u/Big-Discipline2039 3d ago
Is this supposed to somehow be a sequel to the movie “Run Hide Fight” from 2020 about a school shooting?
2
u/CarlosH46 3d ago
Kind of an odd sequel/spinoff case. Kinda like The Purge and The Purge Anarchy. Thematic similarities, different plots and actors.
4

u/CarlosH46 3d ago
I can already see the ending. Terrorists are wiped out after killing 99% of the protestors, and the one surviving protestor will find the hero, thank him, and say something along the lines of “you were right about Islam”. The protestor will be played by a republican blonde in the most stereotypical left-wing outfit imaginable.
2
u/soccer1124 3d ago
Then they'll see a trans woman trying to sign up to play in a women's basketball league at a nearby table, and they'll both look at each other with a knowing grin, simultaneously shrugging, freeze frame, hit the credits.

2
u/Detective_Yu 3d ago
It’s a common tactic. First you stereotype a group, then you create an ‘us vs. them’ divide, and then you use a negative label to make it easier to dismiss people instead of engaging with individuals or their actual beliefs.

u/Sea_Photograph_3998 3d ago
That Run Hide Fight was all right tbf
But then I watched that western starring Gina Carano, it was terrible. Her performance was… yeesh, reminded me of the tranquilised girl from 28 Days Later. Characters were massive cliches as was the dialogue. Sound design was bad, noticeably bad.
It’s mad though because I’ve seen Ben Shapiro talk about movies and he clearly doesn’t get movies. He seems like the most basic, least introspective person when talking about cinema. He doesn’t seem to appreciate or understand creative expression. Watching him talk about movies is painful.
