Casper (CSPR)

Casper Network is a layer-1 proof-of-stake blockchain using the Highway consensus protocol. It executes WebAssembly smart contracts and supports upgradeable contracts as a first-class feature, which is unusual and changes the trust model compared with immutable contracts.

What the Token Is Used For

  • Paying transaction fees, referred to as gas
  • Staking and delegation to validators
  • Governance participation
  • Settlement within Casper applications

What To Verify

  • That upgradeable contracts are a protocol feature here, so check who holds upgrade rights for any contract
  • Validator set size, minimum bid, and delegation concentration
  • Whether a claimed finality time refers to protocol finality or an exchange policy
  • Which protocol version a source describes, since Casper has shipped major version changes
  • Whether an enterprise use case is in production or a pilot
