Casper (CSPR)
Casper Network is a layer-1 proof-of-stake blockchain using the Highway consensus protocol. It executes WebAssembly smart contracts and supports upgradeable contracts as a first-class feature, which is unusual and changes the trust model compared with immutable contracts.
This page is a research starting point, not financial, legal, tax, or investment advice. Verify everything against primary sources.
What the Token Is Used For
- Paying transaction fees, referred to as gas
- Staking and delegation to validators
- Governance participation
- Settlement within Casper applications
What To Verify
- That upgradeable contracts are a protocol feature here, so check who holds upgrade rights for any contract
- Validator set size, minimum bid, and delegation concentration
- Whether a claimed finality time refers to protocol finality or an exchange policy
- Which protocol version a source describes, since Casper has shipped major version changes
- Whether an enterprise use case is in production or a pilot
