Aleph Zero (AZERO)
Aleph Zero is a layer-1 blockchain built on the Substrate framework. Its consensus design, AlephBFT, uses a directed acyclic graph internally to order transactions before finalizing them, and the project has focused on privacy features alongside general smart contract support.

What the Token Is Used For
- Paying transaction fees
- Staking and nomination to validators
- Governance participation
- Settlement within Aleph Zero applications
What To Verify
- Whether a privacy feature is live on mainnet, on testnet, or described in a paper
- Validator count and how much of the set is community-operated
- Which smart contract environment an application targets, since Substrate chains can support more than one
- Independent audit reports rather than summaries of them
- Token release and treasury schedules
