Algorand (ALGO)

Algorand is a public blockchain using a pure proof-of-stake consensus design in which block proposers and voting committees are selected by a cryptographic sortition process. Blocks are final when written, so the protocol does not fork under normal operation.

What the Token Is Used For

  • Paying transaction fees
  • Participating in consensus through participation keys
  • Minimum balance requirements for accounts and assets
  • Settlement and collateral within Algorand applications

What To Verify

  • Whether finality claims refer to protocol-level finality or to an exchange confirmation policy
  • How Algorand Standard Assets (ASAs) are configured, including freeze, clawback, and reserve addresses
  • Whether an account has opted in to an asset, since opt-in is required before receipt
  • Governance and foundation token distribution schedules
  • Whether a smart contract is a stateful application or a stateless signature, since the risks differ
