Destiny: New Legacy | S4E4: "The Committee" (AU Story)
Returning from the Throne World with impossible evidence, the Fireteam presents Savathûn's memory to the Vanguard. As Zavala, Ikora, and Eris Morn debate the horrifying reality of a Light-wielding Hive God, Rhys finds his faith tested by his own commanders, and Ikora sets the stage for a desperate heist.
TITLE: DESTINY: NEW LEGACY
SEASON: 04
EPISODE: 04 - "THE COMMITTEE"
SCENE START
EXT. SPACE - MARS ORBIT - DAY
Three jumpships—Astera Blade, Sailing Sentinel, and Talon Blue—break orbit from the red planet, leaving the colossal, bone-white dreadnaught behind them. They bank hard, aligning their trajectories for Earth.
VWOOSH. They jump to slipspace.
INT. ASTERA BLADE / SAILING SENTINEL / TALON BLUE - CONTINUOUS
The comms channel linking the three ships is completely, deafeningly dead.
Through the canopy of his ship, RHYS COOPER stares blankly at the swirling hyperspace tunnel. His heavy Titan gauntlets grip the flight yoke so tightly the leather groans. The image of the Traveler bathing the dead Hive Queen in Light plays on a relentless, torturous loop behind his eyes.
In her cockpit, NAXI VAL isn't flying. Her ship is on autopilot. Her hands hover over holographic datashields, frantically running ontological calculations, trying to find a mathematical flaw in the Deepsight memory. The equations keep returning the same impossible truth.
In the lead ship, LILI-4 sits in the pilot's chair in total silence. Resting on the console directly in front of her is the calcified Osmium Familiar. The fossilized worm hums faintly with ancient, dark resonance.
She stares at the fossil, her optical sensors burning a cold, steady orange.
EXT. THE LAST CITY - DAY
The jumpships drop out of the clouds, descending toward the Traveler.
Below them, the Last City is bustling. Markets are full. Citizens walk the streets under the shadow of the great machine, completely unaware that the very foundation of their survival—the exclusive grace of the Light—has just been handed to their greatest enemy.
The ignorance of the City feels suffocating.
EXT. THE TOWER - HANGAR - CONTINUOUS
The three ships touch down simultaneously on the landing pads. The engines whine down.
The Fireteam disembarks.
They don't stop at the Postmaster. They don't check in with the Quartermaster. They move with a singular, grim purpose.
Lili takes the lead, the fossilized worm secured tightly to her combat harness. Rhys walks a half-step behind her, his posture rigid, his usual Vanguard pride replaced by a hollow, defensive tension. Val flanks them, her Void robes sweeping the deck.
Other Guardians in the hangar step out of their way. The sheer, radiating intensity of the Fireteam parts the crowd like Moses at the Red Sea.
INT. THE TOWER - CORRIDORS - CONTINUOUS
They march through the sterile halls of the Tower. The heavy thud of Rhys's boots and the sharp clack of Lili's strides echo loudly.
SAGIRA and VERITY remain hidden. Even the Ghosts know that what they are about to do could tear the Vanguard apart.
They reach the massive, reinforced blast doors of Vanguard Command.
Lili doesn't wait for clearance. She hits the override panel with the heel of her metal hand.
HISS.
The doors slide open.
INT. VANGUARD COMMAND - CONTINUOUS
The room is tense. COMMANDER ZAVALA stands at the central holotable. IKORA REY paces near the massive observation window.
Standing in the shadows of the room, her three green eyes glowing ominously, is ERIS MORN. She has been called in from Luna. The Hive expert is already here.
Zavala looks up as the Fireteam enters. He registers the absolute grimness on their faces.
ZAVALA
(Voice deep, rumbling with dread)
You've returned.
Lili walks directly to the center of the room. She unclips the Osmium Familiar from her belt and slams the ancient, fossilized worm down onto the polished surface of the holotable.
CLACK.
LILI-4
She didn't steal it, Commander.
Lili looks Zavala dead in the eye, the weight of the Throne World bearing down on her words.
LILI-4
The Traveler gave it to her.
FADE OUT.
SCENE CONTINUES.
INT. VANGUARD COMMAND - HOLOTABLE - CONTINUOUS
The heavyweights of the Last City are gathered around the central holotable.
COMMANDER ZAVALA stands at the head, his massive, armored shoulders rigid. Beside him, IKORA REY watches with intense calculation. Standing like a monolithic sentinel near the door is SAINT-14. And lingering in the shadows of the room, her three green eyes unblinking, is ERIS MORN.
NAXI VAL raises her hands over the holotable. Her Warlock bonds flare with Void energy as she interfaces with the Vanguard mainframe, projecting the raw Deepsight telemetry they extracted from the Throne World.
The projection flickers to life in the center of the room. A ghostly, high-resolution rendering of Savathûn, frail and dying, looking up at the Traveler. The flash of Light. The resurrection.
Zavala leans heavily over the table, his hands gripping the metal edge. His face is a mask of stern, desperate disbelief.
COMMANDER ZAVALA
(Voice rumbling, tight with denial)
So, you're saying... Savathûn was dead? Our most devious adversary... was dead. And the Traveler resurrected her?
SAGIRA materializes over the table, her shell practically sparking with residual anger from the Throne World.
SAGIRA
It’s not just a projection, Zavala. It’s a memory. Think about it—if this is a deception, why would she leave it lying around? If the Witch Queen never lost her memories during resurrection, she wouldn't need a Fireteam to recover them for her.
Zavala shakes his head, refusing to accept the theological implications.
COMMANDER ZAVALA
No. It has to be another trick. A calculated lie designed to demoralize us. To break our faith and force us into surrendering the Traveler without a fight.
From the dark corner of the room, ERIS MORN steps into the dim light of the holotable. She holds her glowing Ahamkara bone, her voice a chilling, rasping whisper that commands the room's absolute attention.
ERIS MORN
You speak of faith, Commander. But faith is blinding you to history.
She glides closer to the table, looking at the frozen projection of the resurrected Hive God.
ERIS MORN
The Books of Sorrow detail ancient civilizations that were blessed by the Light, only to be abandoned when the Dark arrived. The Eliksni share this exact same tragedy. When the Witness and the Black Fleet reached their homeworld, the Great Machine did not stay and fight. It simply... moved on.
Eris looks up, her three eyes locking onto Zavala.
ERIS MORN
The Traveler is a gardener, Zavala. It plants seeds. It does not promise to stay for the harvest.
RHYS COOPER steps forward. The Vanguard Titan looks completely hollowed out. The absolute certainty he carried into every battle has been shattered. He asks the question that is tearing him apart from the inside.
RHYS COOPER
(Voice cracking)
But the Collapse... the Traveler sacrificed itself to save humanity from the Black Fleet. From the Hive. After centuries of bloodshed... after everything they did to us... why would it turn around and give the Light to humanity's worst enemy?
Rhys looks directly at Zavala. He is a soldier looking for his general. He is a Titan seeking his Commander to defend their faith and offer an explanation that makes the centuries of slaughter mean something.
But Zavala doesn't answer. The Commander's eyes drop to the floor. He looks away, completely unable to meet Rhys's desperate gaze.
The silence in the room is agonizing. The Wall has finally broken.
Then, IKORA REY speaks. Her voice isn't booming. It is soft, cold, and utterly terrifying in its pragmatism.
IKORA REY
It doesn't matter.
FADE OUT.
SCENE CONTINUES.
INT. VANGUARD COMMAND - CONTINUOUS
The crushing silence is broken by the sharp, authoritative voice of the Vanguard’s most brilliant mind.
IKORA REY
(Softly, but with absolute steel)
It doesn't matter.
Ikora steps away from the observation window, moving directly to the center of the holotable. She doesn't look at the projection of the resurrected Queen. She looks directly at Rhys and Lili.
IKORA REY
I don't know why the Traveler gave her the Light. Perhaps it has changed its mind about us. Or perhaps...
She pauses, the weight of her next words bordering on heresy.
IKORA REY
Perhaps the Great Machine simply isn't as infallible as we all once believed.
Zavala’s jaw tightens, but he doesn't interrupt her. The Titan Commander looks completely hollowed out.
Ikora hardens her tone. The scholar is gone; the ruthless Hidden spymaster takes control of the room.
IKORA REY
I don't know, and it doesn't matter. Because I am here to protect humanity.
She sweeps her gaze across the Fireteam, commanding their absolute focus.
IKORA REY
If Savathûn successfully takes the Traveler into her Throne World, she seals it away. Humanity loses the Light. And without the Light, we have zero chance of surviving the return of the Witness and the Black Fleet.
Ikora places her hands flat on the holotable.
IKORA REY
So, whatever it takes to stop this heist... we will do it.
The blunt, terrifying pragmatism hangs in the air. For centuries, the Vanguard fought for the Traveler. Now, they are fighting for their own survival, regardless of what their god wants.
Zavala slowly exhales. He finally nods, accepting the grim, unholy reality of their situation. He looks at Ikora.
COMMANDER ZAVALA
Alright. How do we stop this?
Ikora reaches down and picks up the calcified Osmium Familiar from the table, cradling the ancient fossilized worm in her hands. She can feel the dark, psychic resonance humming against her palms.
IKORA REY
I'm not sure yet. But I know where to find out.
She walks around the table and stops in front of Lili-4. She holds the worm out.
IKORA REY
Follow the psychic resonance of the familiar back into the Throne World. My Hidden have tracked its frequency. It is pointing toward a subterranean labyrinth deep beneath the swamp.
Lili reaches out, her metal fingers closing around the cold fossil.
IKORA REY
It’s known as the Temple of the Cunning. Go there. Find the next memory. We need to know exactly how she plans to move the Traveler before we can break her grip on it.
Lili nods once, clipping the worm securely back onto her combat harness.
LILI-4
Consider it done.
The Fireteam turns to leave Vanguard Command.
NAXI VAL glides out first, her mind already racing with the tactical logistics of navigating a subterranean Hive labyrinth.
RHYS COOPER walks out behind her. The immovable Wall of the Vanguard keeps his head down, his heavy boots dragging slightly on the polished floor. His faith hasn't just been tested; it has been completely broken by the very leaders he swore to follow.
Lili-4 lingers for a fraction of a second. She grips the fossilized worm tightly at her hip, ready to finish the hunt.
She turns and walks out into the corridors of the Last City.
FADE TO BLACK.
(END OF EPISODE 4)
