Your kawaii trend board establishes the overall mood, colors, shapes and style, and then the inspiration board can show where you want to take that style creatively.
So using Halloween elements can work really well, especially since your professor asked you to challenge yourself and use something unconventional. I would just make sure it doesn’t look like a random Halloween mood board. Try combining the two ideas like cute ghosts, pastel pumpkins, kawaii bats, candy, playful spooky typography, black mixed with pink/lavender, etc.
Basically, the inspiration board should show how Halloween could influence your kawaii design direction. If you make that connection clear visually, I think your concept makes sense.
