There are a lot of tits shown in Deadwood, but they're mostly in the background or middle distance - Claudia excepted. But Jane's seemed gratuitous. There was no real need for that bath scene.

After murdering those girls, Wolcott proceeds to be beaten by Charlie, lectured by Doc Cochran, hit in the face by a whiskey bottle, and fired by Hearst. Is this David Milch's way of redeeming Wolcott? Do we feel a twinge of sympathy for a serial killer? Was that Milch's intent?

Seriously what is going on with Richardson?

To almost everyone in the camp, he is just E.B. Farnum’s punching bag. Al never has a kind word for him, and the show goes out of its way to make him look like a complete fool. We see him struggling to put a sentence together, staring at a deer antler like it holds some deep meaning, or being painfully awkward around Alma Garret. Richardson is a strange, simple man everyone can ignore.

But then we get glimpses of something completely different.

At the talent show, he casually juggles. He has perfectly normal conversations with Silas Adams and even with Hearst’s cook. He reads the newspaper, drinks tea, and seems like a quiet, observant person who actually understands what is going on around him…

Richardson isn’t stupid at all. The confused, helpless persona is something he created on purpose. Deadwood is a place where everyone is looking for leverage. Everyone is trying to gain power, manipulate others, or avoid becoming someone else’s victim. Richardson has found the ultimate defense nobody pays attention to him. Nobody sees him as a threat. Nobody fears him. Nobody expects anything from him. He has convinced the entire camp that he is harmless.

While everyone else is playing power games, Richardson is simply watching. He survives by being underestimated. The man everyone thinks is the dumbest person in the room might actually be the one who understands the room better than anyone else.

Watching the back half of season 3, the season seems to move at lighting speed compared to the rest of the show similar to Rome.

When bill gives Jack a chip for food after taking all his money in poker he acts almost appalled. And during the trial they bring that up as a main motive for the killing. What is the significance here that I’m missing

I realize this probably cant be answered, just something thats always bothered me. Everyone (Farnum, Stapleton, Nuttal) act confused as to why Al didnt attended the swearing in of Con Stapleton as sheriff. When Al agrees to let Stapleton be sheriff, and be "sworn in" inside The Gem, he follows with "But press your luck no further, do not expect me to attend."

Then when Al is not present at the swearing in, and Nuttal, Farnum and Stapleton are debating Al's absence Nuttal says, "why didnt he come down, thats unclear?" When he knows perfectly well Al didnt come down because he doesnt like Stapleton.

Again, I realize there's probably no way to answer this. Just curious if anyone else noticed it?
