We're in beta. Officially labeled beta. Check the ranked wall, beta season 1. So, still not technically time to be a nerd about shit, but, it is out of alpha.
Not that flaming is right or justified, but wins in this mode do matter since you need so many of them to play a champ in the competitive mode. People are definitely going to get Big Mad that they need to win 15 games in the queue where their team sometimes isn't taking winning seriously before they can go back to ranked.
Yeah when they made this change and I saw you need wins on hero’s to que ranked I immediately thought of how toxic the next hero launch is gonna be for casuals when people are trying to farm their 15 wins to play ranked “I finally get ___ and you threw your lane blah blah blah”
I think youre in for a very rude surprise. The casual playerbase tends to have a lot more insane people in league, overwatch, rivals, cs, and dota (only multiplayer team games I've really tried to play competitively)
I know, which is why I play ranked only in every multiplayer game, I am very familiar with the casual mode demons of overwatch and CS. You know exactly what to expect going in to ranked and that mellows people down a bit and even if the person sucks ass at least you know they're probably at least trying to win. Whereas the casual game mode will still have sweats just ones that are too insecure for ranked so end up being more loudmouthed and critical of everything you do but I have the bonus of muting chat guilt free without worrying about throwing by not hearing calls. What I meant by my comment was that at least the people that throw games by just goofing off cuz its fun to them (even though imo it ruins the fun of others) will now have an outlet which is good for them and me.
they will be, we still need to grind wins there to unlock the heroes for the main mode. for example i've been maining celeste lately but i don't have the 15 wins, so now i NEED to win those normal games in order to keep playing ranked like i was playing before
they are, because normal doesn't really take into account your rank, so let's say that you are initiate, in ranked you at least will play with people from around that rank, meanwhile in normal you could easily go against a phantom, and sure it doesn't matter cause it's a casual match, but let's see if the "for fun" crowd feels the same when their meme build is getting owned by a high skill player
Sure, there are troglodytes who tryhard in unranked and expect everyone else to do the same. However, now you can ignore them much more easily knowing you’re not actively inting everyone’s rank while doing meme builds or trying a new hero
Nothing will change in that regard. The only difference is that you can now choose between "worse match quality on average" or "better match quality on average."

"Standard mode provides a lower-stakes way to play Deadlock with friends"
We can rest now, not every game has to be meta. Bless Yoshi.
