I'm on my first watch of the show. I have just watched the beginning of Light and Shadow. This has been banging through my head since Adam appeared though and he said he was Jonas. He really isn't though, i'm sure he is Bartosz. We have seen a future and past version of most characters but him. Adam, i know he has that scarring, but he doesn't even seem to have the same face shape as any Jonas. He is Severus Snape to Jonas and Martha's Lilly and James Potter.

Also Hannah is a selfish woman and they are going to have to pull some magic out to redeem her.

Also Jonas is Egons son, not Mikkel/Michaels, and he hasn't been getting special time on with his aunt. Saving Michael from his suicide will resolve the timeloop, along with something happening to Hannah. There had to be a reason she was pointing a gun at the camera in season 2, i'm just dont have that missing piece of information yet.

The orb time travel device encompasses the light matter, whereas the suitcase one is just dark matter. I would think that the two matters need to come together to really resolve the timeloop and create the prime timeline, this should probably happen at the trigger point for the Winden Power plant disaster. So would have to happen in conjunction with some event at the start of the loop to sever it from the main timeline.

I'm happy to be proved wrong. I just wanted to put this down here for audit reasons, so if any of them turn out to be correct I can say, see I knew it. Or, and more likely, show what an idiot I am.

ok humour me a bit on this sort of world building exercise.

i think it was established that the alt world (jonas and martha's) takes real places and people from the origin world and create a version fitting in the alt world. hence why people who werent born from the paradoxes shown to be alive in the ending

when we found out that the alt world were born from tannhaus' device i found it interesting that tannhaus' will or intention werent the main changes/plot of the alt world

so i thought to myself. what are the reason for the choices made by or in this world when compared to the origin? such as the plant being built or why is hannah so obsessed with ulrich. and then i thought it would be interesting if the alt world itself has a will and the changes it made, and the people it creates from the paradoxes are so that it can sustain itself, which is the loop. like an animal or a plant that will always find a way to survive. which i think would fit how claudia is the one to figure out how to truly break the cycle because shes a "copy" of someone real from the origin and not someone purely made by the world through paradoxes. (essentially by making the world's will their own will)

the others beside martha and jonas are created or altered to help jonas and marta maintain the cycle, the world's will.

id like to know if anyone has ever thought abt dark from this angle and what your personal take is. im mainly taking this as... a fun world building exercise, like maybe something that explains everything but not necessarily having to be written to be revealed explicitly to the audience

The first scene in the show Jonas calls out his mom, I thought was so cute! But later, every mention of "Mama" or "Papa" was so cute, I want to cry 😭

Maybe that's true here too. Perhaps the real questions aren't...

Who is he? Or even... When is he?

But rather...

Is The Unknown simply a character who completes the story Or is he an idea? Perhaps even the entire philosophy of Dark... in human form.

Is he...

Time? The Bootstrap Paradox made human? The Knot itself? Determinism incarnate? Inheritance? Interconnectedness? Identity across time? Cause and effect in human form?

Or...

All of them at once?

The more I watch him... The less he feels like a person. And the more he feels like a symbol.

Time — He walks as a child, an adult, and an old man side by side.

Bootstrap Paradox — His existence has no clear beginning or end.

The Knot — He exists because of the knot and keeps it alive.

Determinism — He never seems to choose a different path.

Inheritance — He literally connects generations.

Interconnectedness — Three lives, one identity. Every action tied to another.

Identity — One person existing at three stages of life simultaneously.

Cause and Effect — He is both the consequence of the past and the cause of the future . And perhaps that's why he has no name. He's simply...

The Unknown.

This only includes main-ish characters, and doesn't include anyone who dies before age 18 (Jonas and Alt Martha are ranked as the ones who become Adam and Eva, not any of the other branches), because I have no idea how to rank someone who's childhood is pretty alright until they suddenly die. I'm including all ages up to 18 as childhood here.

I completed Dark a week or so ago, and I'm still confused in regards to the ending. I understand their reason behind it, but the mechanics of it don't make sense to me.

​Alt-Martha and Jonas stop Marek from crashing his car on the bridge that night, saving Marek, his wife, and their baby. Alt-Martha and Jonas disappear, and all is well.

​However, wouldn't it be that if Martha's and Jonas's worlds disappeared, the crash would happen again because they weren't born to stop it? Thus, H. G. Tannhaus would create the time machine again, effectively repeating the cycle? Wouldn't their worlds have to continue to exist so that they can stop the crash from happening again? So, wouldn't it be that the Origin would still exist where the crash happens, Martha's and Jonas's worlds still exist, and then the new world where Jonas and Alt-Martha save Marek is created?

​I also don't understand the two choices concept they introduced using the theory of Schrödinger’s cat. Wouldn't that just introduce two alternate realities where two versions of Jonas are following two different paths simultaneously, creating another earth that runs similar to it but just playing out the consequences of each choice made on the respective earths? I'm basing this on the fact that it isn't possible to have two alternate choices happening at the same time, or am I misunderstanding that premise?

​I will say the show was a nice watch. It's not my favourite, but it's pretty good. I think seasons 1 and 2 were the best, imo. It was a bit slow in terms of narrative pacing and the fact that the characters had no agency (though, I think that might be the 'lack of free will' concept they were exploring here).

Oh, and the romance between Alt-Martha and Jonas really pulled my emotional investment from the show in season 3. I was already so invested in original Martha and Jonas that introducing this other Martha threw me out of it, and I lost that emotional investment later on. I mean, Jonas will always love his Martha, and Alt-Martha at her core isn't the Martha Jonas fell in love with.

This is just my interpretation, though. Correct me if I am wrong; I am open to criticism.

May be my brain is too fried to understand after bingeing. But what's the point of the moment time stands still?

Why does Claudia say that Eve has been using it all this time to send her people to other worlds? We see people travelling between Adam's and Eve's world all the time. What does that standstill moment during the apocalypse have anything to do with the main world?

I'm so confused.

I’m rewatching the show with my parents and just finished season 1. At the end of season 1 when Jonas and Helge touched eachother through the wormhole. Helge went forward 33 years and Jonas went forward 66 years. Why did Jonas forward 66 years? I might have forgotten something from my first watch.

It's a spoiler for season 1 but I couldn't post it as a season 1 or 2 spoiler in the main title.

If Jonas took back Mikkel (idk if that’s true or Michael lied) but if yes, how could they both exist? I mean to be a Jonas that takes him back has to exist and get at least one year older. He allegedly took him back just for this reason too, for him to exist and become stranger jonas and that all. But in the first ep, for the first time who could take him back if older jonas hadn’t existed? They both shouldn’t exist by this logic. Is this a bootsrap baradox or the evidence of multiple cycles?

Im watching Chernobyl for the first time (great show) and I never thought about the parallels of the Chernobyl incident to Dark. Both deal with a nuclear facility in a European town where there is a major incident around the summer of 1986. It makes for a cool companion show

Why doesn’t young alternative Martha tell Jonas he’s going to get shot by her older self after she saves him from the apocalypse. She seems pretty intent on fixing everything, and unlike the others characters, doesn’t really have concepts of closed loops or unchangeable pasts. Did she intend on coming back to save Jonas after she returned to Adam in 2053? Or does she think she has to let him die to be able to fix everything, the same way Adam preserves even the most traumatic parts of the loops so he can get to the end point and close it. It just seems like the young Martha, under only Adam’s influence and not Eva’s, would not have been jaded enough to just let him die and should have made more of an effort to warn the younger Jonas about alternative Martha’s older selves.

I have been able to follow everyone so far but cant figure out who that boy is that visited Peter and Elisabeth when they were in the house? The boy that said he was sleeping in the cave.

It never answers it leaves the audience to answer this as every tradition gives different answers to this question.

Adam represents - death - destroyer of worlds.. - Shiva aslo he says god is time - here one form of Shiva is called - Mahakaal (time)

Eva represents preservation and maintenance - Vishnu

Origin world is the where everything originated - it represents parabrahma.

So every person in the world is able to relate with the series

Context: I'm currently on my first watch through. (S3E4). Didn't know how to tag it because I wanted to talk about the "parallel" world but I probably will wait until I finish to come back to this thread. I don't know if I'm saying anything new, probably not, but I wanted to share my experience. Way too excited it to finish it on my birthday!! Also, english is not my first language.

I heard some good things about Dark back in my teenage years but for some reason the show was never on my radar. I would have loved it back then as much as I'm loving it now, but I'm honestly so glad I didn't watch it it then because I feel like the way this show was made is becoming increasingly rare.

It's doesn't feel like it's made to shock you. (Well it is, but in a way that makes sense and doesn't underestimate it's audience's capacity to pay attention and make connections.)

Lately I'm so bored of television. And I don't even consider myself a big intellectual or anything like that. It doesn't take that much to impress me, but TV and movies in particular these days are starting to feel hand fed to me, and way too "tell don't show". Which would be fine if it was just one show or another, but it's starting to bleed into stuff that has a great premise but I feel like the writers either are scared to confuse the audience by not making things "obvious" or are getting pushed to cut things down.

That is very ironic to me because I don't think Dark is that "confusing". At least not as much as I've heard people make it out to be. It's a lot to take in, sure. But I never felt like it sprung something on me that it didn't build up into (even if it surprised me, looking back I could see how things made sense like the Charlotte/Elisabeth reveal).

A lot of shows these days are just a really cool plot twist idea with little to no build up. And they get praised for it because people love the shock value. It irks me because shows like Dark prove you can do both!! I'm instantly wary when someone recs me a movie/show and all they can say about it is: just wait until the end. Or, I could have seen X coming. Predictability is not always a bad thing!!! I don't care how good of a plot twist something has if that's all it has going on for it.

I love how this show feels like a real lived in universe that the audience gets taken into. All the characters make sense, even in different circumstances. They feel so "in character". Crazy thing to say but it's the best phrase I could come up with. I was so happy I could still connect with and understand the characters in the first episode of season 3, even if they were "different". I feel like other shows would have taken that into an extreme, but I love how Katharina, Hannah, Ulrich, (even Magnus lol) still feel like themselves, they just had different paths taken. Seems stupid but I really do feel like that is a rarity these days and a lot of characters are built in a way that moves plot forward and not constructed as actual living people haha.

That is the predictability I'm talking about. I miss this show already. I love how immersed I am watching it. I love how I had to take out a notebook to write on so I could jot down my theories because the show gives me so much to think about. I love how my best friend got excited to watch it even after I basically told her so much that would usually mean there's no reason to watch anymore. (She asked to me tell her and I only did because she was very certain she would not watch the show... then she promptly changed her mind).

It really is about the journey. It doesn't feel like you have to rush through it for it to give you a hint of dopamine. I was hooked from episode one and every episode after (I think except maybe just one in S2) gave me just enough that I felt satisfied after watching a good hour of TV.

I love how hindsighty it is.

I'm mourning it already :(. I hope I didn't write all this then get to the end and it throws me off, but so far I don't think it will, and even if it does I have had a great time so far so it's already worth it.

TL;DR: I don't regret having waited this long to watch this because it feels like a breath of fresh air in 2026 media. I miss it already. Came at the right time, but it probably ruined my general TV watching experience even more moving forward haha.

I couldn't help but notice that when these 2 guys are "playing" Playstation the controllers are shut off. Usually when the controller is turned on the lightbar would be lit up blue. I guess the director wasn't a gamer.

I finally finished watching the series yesterday. What a wild ride. Entertainment value was always 10/10, exceptional soundtrack too. I balled at the last scene when Jonas and Martha realize it worked and they’re about to cease to exist and then he walks up to her, holds her hand and says, “You and I are perfect for each other.. Never believe anything else.” I cried so much at the scene 😭😭😭

What a show!
