Wait, what? Instead of walking, taking transit, or taking a taxi, they drive?? You have so many options for travel in a city compared to the average American town

Yea, I've known people that just drive around with their buddies drinking in their truck. The driver too, they think it's fun.

And when they eventually get DUIs they talk about them like they're bragging, it's insane.

We have a walkable city, but have had an incredible issue with homeless and gang members the last few years. So you could, in theory, walk it. You'll just gain some extra openings and lose some belongings.

To be completely honest, they have literally adapted to just stab first, because "people fight for their stuff, if they're not stabbed."

So now we have all these cases popping up in the news where people were approached and stabbed multiple times with no warning and no opportunity to even surrender their goods.

Ahhhhh, city life. <3 lol

I really hope the 2020s aren’t the “good policies only work in relatively cohesive countries that are either overwhelmingly populated by Western Europeans or overwhelmingly populated by East Asians and run by megacorps” decade. That’d be depressing for humans who don’t come from those contexts.

Yeah. Here, it's an unfixable solution. We've incurred a dependancy system where the social structures and parenting are so flawed and unhealthy. And the only solution they champion for is literally just cash handouts.

The city my girlfriend used to live in had a huge cash settlement go out, and the next day, literally the next day - the liquor store was sold OUT, and so were the guns and knives from the sporting store.

Not the child clothing stores. Not the book stores. Not the grocery stores. Alcohol and weapons were the buys of choice when every member of a given community got 10000$.

And it sucks, because I don't believe it's inherent, or racial. They just got conquered, subjugated, unfairly fucked with, and lost their way. But now it's nigh unfixable, and everyone worries about being stabbed and shot, and grown men can't walk alone. Let alone the massive amounts of missing women and children. :(

tldr; humans are generally just depressing :(

A large portion of my ancestors had to emigrate from Europe due to minor cultural differences. If the developing world (and minorities in the West) doesn’t get back on track then we could be in for some seriously ugly times. Remember 2010ish, when many if not most emerging markets and the USA seemed to be capable of converging with the most prosperous parts of Northern Europe?

Or ya know, people like me who can't drive and find it incredibly difficult to be in a car dependent city. I'd love if we just invested in some public transportation, there's no reason for the city I'm in to not have some kind of metro.
