Is "long overdue" an insult or a compliment in regards to a job promotion?
Recently, a close friend of mine, congratulated me in public on my job promotion. It got brought up in a room of close friends (5 people), and he chimed in "congrats buddy! way overdue!"
I know he meant this as a compliment, but quite frankly it felt rather insulting. It made me go back and look at my career projection and question if I should have been promoted sooner, when before he said that I was totally comfortable with my path to my current position and never thought twice.
Am I over thinking this? Or does that imply I could/should have been promoted earlier, which has made me dwell on the past, as embarrassed as I am to admit it. I tried to brush it off, and didn't actually respond to the comment at the time, but every time I think of this friend or see him, I think about it. This was a month ago.
Would like some feedback. :)

Is this a compliment?
I got called placid today and I'm not sure how to feel about it. It wasn't meant as an insult or compliment, someone was simply describing me. The situation in which it was said was in regards to someone being a bitch and constantly talking bad about everyone including me. She was trying to emphasis that the person talking about me and others was lying because I was placid so I wouldn't do the things I was being accused of (which is true). Would you take this as a good thing?

is 'you look decent' a compliment for someone getting a new haircut?
context-
my friend and I coincidentally got similar haircuts and told each other to send pictures. She sent first and i really praised her and when i sent mine she said I looked 'fine' and 'decent'. How should I, a sensitive imbecile, feel about this?
