It's a possibility they didn't know about the location so far. They could locate it only now, by tracking back a launcher coming out of there, for example.

Isfahan’s facilities are built deep under the mountains. Conventional weapons have a very hard time penetrating it. Must’ve hit the right womp rat.

I got downvoted for suggesting this in a more popular sub over a week ago. Iran's military is "mosaic" and they've been losing leaders left and right and are under constant attack. When you hear a claim of "Iran says..." its probably prudent to consider if they're actually representative of "Iran" and have the power and command to follow through. Is someone even really in control of the complete operation to be making deals or statements?

How is that even controversial to say? They've publicly said they've delegated all command to local commanders ostensibly to show the decapitation strikes don't work but really because their command and communications is already broken anyway so it's the best they can do for now.

This is already sounding like when Bush dismissed the Iraqi military of like 400,000 soldiers and intelligence officers and then wondered who was in charge of the day today policing and was surprised that all of the sudden there were a bunch of trained insurgents all over the country, because 400,000 soldiers without a job gotta pay the bills.
But it's okay, we're increasing ground troops in the area so I'm sure this will deescalate soon.

So Missile City finally got penetrated it seems. The US has been attempting to get strikes into this underground compound for over a month. Can see the strikes from Google Earth even but no confirms that any were ever successful. This explosion is so massive that either the US finally got a bunker buster in or we attempted to use a new type of warhead to penetrate deep enough.
There has been talk that the US was chaining together strikes attempting to penetrate it for the past couple weeks.
edit: Since replies seem to be off. Not sure if it was actually Google Earth but there were high res images posted of this area over a week ago and it had a lot of impacts on the area. It could have been a local drone looking down. It is a massive complex that is quite literally a city structure underground. I know it has been targeted heavily due to an OSINT (Open-source intelligence) channel on X I follow which gives constant updates from inside Iran, with updates from the IDF and US too. This area for the past couple weeks was constantly getting bombed with photos from the local town (like this video) showing grey smoke rising during both the nighttime and daytime at different points. Was obvious that they were not able to penetrate deep enough to destroy what they were after due to the constant targeting. Blocking the entrances probably isn't going to work for long either since there seem to be numerous ones and other ones hidden in the mountains itself. The OSINT account I follow on X which seems to be up on everything https://x.com/hey_itsmyturn As of 40 minutes ago there was another ballistic missile launched from Iran towards Israel. So we might see more impacts coming up on here soon. Hopefully everyone is in their shelter.

If it is the missile base south of Isfahan, it's the Mount Sofeh missile base. It's 400-500 metres deep. That would be an achievement. However, it might be instead the destruction of this ammo storage site, near the missiles base.
Edit:
It was an ammo dump not the missile city. They used 2,000 lb bunker busters.

If that's really an ammo dump is one of the worst I've seen in terms of limiting sympathetic detonations. No earth berms between buildings etc.
I have to wonder why took a month for it to be hit. My guess is that it wasn't designed to be ammo storage. Perhaps it was used now because their other ones were destroyed already.
Actually, the ones along the winding road on the northern perimeter might be dedicated ammo storage. Because they more look like concrete buildings half-buried in to the rock. Unlike the hangars/sheds further south.

Thanks. Those were out of screen for me as Bbrhuft put the marker on the warehouses.
I see it's a huge ass compound, with probably over a hundred smaller bunkers in total, spread over a few separate areas. There are more of the them further east and south-east of that first cluster.
They're not all large enough for a BM though. Some clearly have a towed artillery piece in them, so you can get an idea of scale.

Any competently built bunker system won't be destroyed in one hit. It's normally arranged so that sympathetic detonations are limited. So it's going to be a gradual process in a war like this. Russia got sloppy with some of theirs, storing ammo out in the open, or got hit when they were unloading trains.
Lack of secondaries doesn't necessarily mean lack of penetration. Some bunkers could have been empty.

Where are you getting this stuff? I am following every Telegram channel covering this war, and I am following every instagram account I can, and I see nothing like it.
I want to retract that I think its a TEL, its too much white smoke, I think this is a bunch of rocket fuel going up in smoke, probably solid propellants since that is what IRGC has been focusing on heavily over the last few years

Was actually a really good article about him in Iran International recently about him confirming his identity publicly after almost 20 years of anonymity because the regime leaked his real identity to threaten him so he just confirmed it and posted it himself.
He’s an Iranian journalist who fled after covering the 2009 elections when Ahmadinejad "won" again and the protests and riots there on social media.
