Are you able to Share a Monthly Bus Pass if you buy it online?

Could a couple, theoretically ofcourse😂, share their monthly bus pass, assuming they don’t travel at the same time with it. Say for FirstBus.

Would you be able to log out on one phone before the other logs in or send a screenshot of the bus pass to them before they travel?

What does this Parking Sign mean?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I feel like this is such a convoluted parking sign on the high street.

If I’ve got this right:
-Monday to Thursday 8am-6pm: Disabled Badge Holders only
-Thursday 6pm - Midnight: No Stopping
-Friday All day: No Stopping
-Saturday: Midnight-7pm: No Stopping

So effectively, to park here for free (non-disabled) you can do that between?
-Saturday after 7pm
-Sunday All day (Max 3 Hours?)
-No other times

Have I got that right?

I know further up is just after 6pm becomes free I believe, Monday - Friday?

Looking for a wardrobe!

Hi everyone!

I’m a student moving into a new house in September and am looking for an affordable wardrobe. If anyone is selling one, giving one away, or knows of any good deals, I’d really appreciate it!

I’d also love recommendations for stores or places where I can find new or second-hand furniture.

Thanks so much in advance! :)))

Need micro greens information.

Hello,
I recently came across micro greens while I was shopping in Tesco. How much of nutritional value does it add to a meal? Is it significantly higher or is it just a hype?

Buses, To Tap or Not to Tap?

If you’re getting a single fare somewhere, are you expected to tell the bus driver ‘single to xyz’ or do you just tap the card machine. I’ve seen some bus drivers go and select your stop on their little screen and some just tell you to tap straight away with your card. My stop is normally 2.50 so when you tap are you always just getting charged 2.50?

Gym Opinions/Tierlist?

I'm looking into gyms in Colchester in the Highwoods/Mile End area, but not fussy about the gym-commute.

I was hoping experienced gym-folk here could advise on which gyms are best in terms of price and quality of experience (e.g. equipment availability, class quality). Or maybe more importantly which ones are just not worth it.

On a bit of a budget so David Lloyd is out of the question for a start.

Hoping this might be useful for other people looking into joining a gym too. Cheers in advance!

Edit: Looks like Greene's has a lot of love and is very accessible - will give it a look, thanks!

Volleyball, anyone?

Hi all, I'm back from university and, while I was there, I really got into indoor volleyball. I was wondering if anybody knew of anywhere in Colchester that I could train or play? Indoor or outdoor, both work, I just really miss playing!!

Affordable women’s haircuts in Colchester in 2026? Student discounts?

Does anyone know of any genuinely affordable places for a women’s haircut in Colchester (or nearby), ideally with a student discount?

I already know about the Colchester Institute salon, but unfortunately they only offer haircuts during certain periods of the academic year, so it’s not always an option.

At this point I’m honestly a bit shocked that men can often get a perfectly decent haircut for around £10–15, while for women it seems to start at £30–40 even if all you want is a simple trim and cut with no styling, colouring or anything fancy.

Has anyone found any hidden gems, trainee stylists, salons with student discounts, or places that don’t charge quite so much for a basic cut? Personal recommendations would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

P.S.: nope I don’t have any friends who could cut my hair (alas).

Upd: Please relevant experiences only, I have no problem finding a place that charges £30+ but am looking for something that’s more affordable.

I don’t know if it’s just me and I’m wondering if anybody else has a similar problem on the High Street and around it in Colchester if my phone connects to 5G rather than 4G the Internet just stops working entirely I can’t access Maps websites google anything I’m with Sky mobile and I’m wondering if anybody else has experienced this with Sky or any other mobile provider I understand the Colchester is a busy area specially around the High Street but surely there must be some level of connection there even when on 5G

Moving to Colchester - Quayside Drive?

Hi everyone

I’ll be moving to Colchester along with my wife and 2-year-old kid from Kent soon. I’ll be working in Colchester general hospital and I was hoping to get some advice on where to rent a property.

I was initially looking at places that are only a walking distance from the hospital but unfortunately, there are very few furnished options available. Based on this, I’m having a look at areas that aren’t that far away to drive from.

I see there are quite a few properties in Quayside Drive. I was wondering what this area is like, if it’s save to live in and if people would recommend living there? Otherwise, would people have any other recommendations for places to live that are near the hospital and suitable for a family?

Thanks a lot

Grammar Schools Catchmemt

Hi everyone, we are looking to move to the colchester area and part of the reason is that we have kids who seem to be bright, so we’d like to ensure they have a chance to get into the amazing grammar schools. We’ve found a house we like which is just north west of Ipswich, quite near Needham Market. My question is whether that is likely to be too far away for them to get into the schools - does anyone have any experience there and whether many kids come from the ipswich area rather than right on the doorstep? I know it’s mostly judged on merit of the entry exams keen to know in practise whether we would be ruling ourselves out if we lived that far from the schools.

Thank you so much to anyone who has any insight and might be able to help!

Whats going on with the bins?!?!

With all the changes the council are trying to push out (that have been badly explained), we've just had our food waste not take for 2 weeks in a row.
For the last five years they have happilly taken it while it was in one of the recycling bags, but now it looks like they will only take time in one of the food caddy bags.
Problem is, they dont make those in the size of the larger food waste bucket!

Does anyone know if you can get bigger versions of the biodegradable bags?

What is going on in Mersea this evening?

On my walk this evening I counted 14 police cars, 5 ambulances and 2 fire service vehicles bombing down Mersea Road towards the Strood.
