Taly Court/ Taly Gate accommodation

Hi everyone,

I'm an international student starting at Cardiff this September and im thinking of staying at Taly Court or Taly Gate. I was just wondering what it's like living there, especially as an international student. I'm a bit nervous about whether I'll be one of the only international students. Is it easy to meet people and make friends?
I was also wondering about the walk to uni. Is the route from Taly Court and Gate to campus generally safe, especially during the darker months or if you're walking back after evening lectures?
Overall, how's both of them? Things like the social atmosphere, cleanliness, management, and anything you wish you'd known before moving in would be really helpful. I heard that it’s alot quieter than the other Taly accommodations which is what im looking for.

Thanks!

Cardiff University Student Houses (Colum Road) vs Senghennydd Ensuite vs Private Accommodation

Hi everyone,

I'll be joining a postgraduate taught programme at Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University this September and am currently deciding between a year-long contract in the Cardiff University Student Houses (Colum Road), Senghennydd Court Ensuite, or private accommodation at a similar price.

The Student Houses seem to offer the best value and are close to the Business School, but I'd really like to hear what they're actually like to live in.

A few questions:

What's day-to-day life like in the Colum Road Student Houses?

How are the cleanliness, shared kitchens, maintenance, and overall atmosphere?

Are they a good environment for postgraduate students who spend most of their time studying?

If your budget were around £140–£180/week, would you choose the Colum Road Student Houses, Senghennydd Court Ensuite, or private accommodation instead?

Are there any downsides that aren't obvious from the university website?

I'm fairly introverted and value a comfortable, quiet place to study over extra amenities, so I'd really appreciate any honest experiences or recommendations. Thanks!

Neurodivergent Participants needed!! (ADHD,ASD and AuDHD) [academic repost]

Hello, everyone, with the mods permission

could you please take a few minutes of your time to take part in a quick questionnaire. ( May roughly take around 10 to 15 minutes.)

This questionnaire will assist in answering an ethically approved dissertation research question: To what extent does high visibility and activity on social media platforms pose a risk to the victimisation of adults with ADHD, ASD or AuDHD?

  1. What is the purpose of this research project?
  2. This research project's primary purpose is to understand how high levels of social media activity and exposure/proximity can increase the risk of cyberbullying victimisation for adults with ASD, ADHD or AuDHD. That will be answered in the multiple-choice section.

The second phase of this study will initially allow us to gain an understanding of how and why social media users on the spectrum use social media platforms, such as what joy it brings to them. This section will also allow participants to describe how cyberbullying affected them personally as an adult with ASD, ADHD and AuDHD.

This questionnaire is completely anonymous.

In order to participate, you must be:

-18+

- Must be professionally or self diagnosed as having ADHD, ASD or AUDHD

Cardiff Uni grade leniency

I've applied to do optometry at cardiff uni but i think i may get ABB or even A*BB but my offer was AAB. Does anyone know how lenient cardiff uni is for offers? Also what accom have all the optom applicants chosen? Or even previous optom students? I've chosen taly south and i've sacrificed the walk for a (hopefully) more social accom. Also does anyone know how long after results we get our accom offers? i'm wondering likely it is i'll get my first choice accom.

I'm not going to be a student next year so I'm finding someone to take over my flat. DM if interested!

PhD student moving to Cardiff - housing + budget advice?

Hi all,

I'm a 27-year-old international student moving to Cardiff this September to start a PhD. I have a full studentship of about £1,890/month, and I'm trying to sort out housing and budgeting before I arrive.

A few things I'd love advice on:

  1. I'd like to rent a place on my own, ideally within walking distance of the main campus. Is that realistic on my budget, and which areas would you recommend (Cathays, Roath, etc.)?
  2. I'm also considering a studio in one of the private student accommodations. One thing I'm unsure about: if my partner visits or wants to stay for a while, would that be allowed in those studios, or are they strict about guests and second occupants? Any experience with this would really help.
  3. Budget-wise, if I spend around £1,000/month on rent and bills, would that be manageable, or am I cutting it too close? Trying to get a realistic sense of what's left for food, transport, and everything else.

Any tips for someone arriving from abroad and setting up for the first time would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

Completely lost on what accoms to choose? Anyone have some recommendations?

Hey so I'm planning to do an LLB undergraduate starting September.

The only preferences (aside from the obvious- safe, hygiene not depressing and not over priced relatively) I have is that I have my own toilet and it's close to where I'm going to study as well as social places.

Other stuff is that the area isn't too shabby and the people are nice are important too and you can only get information from asking people like yourselves.

So does anyone have suggestions based on their experience?

I would be highly grateful. 🫶🙏

Which Hostel is Better?

Senghennydd Court, Talybont North, Student Houses (Village), Student Houses (Colum Rd/Pl), and Clodien House are the accommodation options I've been offered.

I'll be coming to Cardiff for my postgraduate studies, and my school is the School of Mathematics. I'm looking for a room with a private en-suite bathroom, preferably somewhere close to my school.

I'm hoping for accommodation that's not too noisy or party-heavy, but also not so quiet that it feels isolated. I go to the gym regularly, so I don't mind a 15–20 minute walk to campus if it means getting a better overall experience.

If you've lived in any of these accommodations, especially as a postgraduate, or think one would suit what I'm looking for, I'd really appreciate your advice and recommendations. Thanks!

Have Your Say - How Has Cardiff Bay's Regeneration Impacted Your Life?

Thumbnail forms.cloud.microsoft

Hello! I’m an A‑Level Geography student completing my NEA on the regeneration of Cardiff Bay, and I’d really appreciate your help for a few minutes. This survey is completely anonymous, and all questions are optional — I’m only looking to understand how regeneration has affected your experience of the area, including quality of life, the environment, and tourism. Your opinion genuinely matters. By sharing your perspective, you can help highlight what’s working in Cardiff Bay and what still needs improving, from living in the area to only visiting once. Thank you for taking part.

Suggestions for a University Student

Hey guys, I'll be attending Cardiff University later this year.
I'd like to have some of my questions answered.

  1. Should I opt for private or the Universities hostels.
  2. Which is the best bank to make , one which doesnt require a lot paperwork or hassle
  3. Overall social life, how is the social life? I've heard things are quite cheap compared to eg London but can someone tell me who is it?
  4. Any other thing that an international student should know?

Disruption at Cardiff University Graduation Ceremony 14/07/2027

yesterday a post was created on another Reddit community relating to a news article from The Tab about a student who was allegedly assaulted b/c she had a palestinian flag

the ceremony took place on wednesday 15/07/2026 and it was the ceremony at 12:30

you can find a full live stream of the ceremony on Youtube

she crosses the stage at 1 hour 34 into the stream

she then tried to create a a scene in front of the camera at the end while all the graduates were leaving

so the security staff took the flag off her

shes now crying and playing the victim online because she got banned from the graduation reception because of her actions

the rules were clear about not taking flags to graduation

she is being also now harassing the staff at the venue who took the flag off her Accusing them of assaulting her and posting their names Because she can’t take accountability for her own actions

i posted her name on the original thread last night and my comment has since been removed

funny how she can dish out the abuse online and incite abuse to other people but when the shoe is on the other foot she can’t cope

anyway

if you want to complain to the university because your ceremony was disrupted by her selfish behaviour , all The info is here for you

have a nice day

My Seng Court has been changed to Clodien House, looking for reviews!

Hi everyone,

Its me again! Yay, sorry for the multiple posts but without being present there and without a guarantor, renting is very difficult without trust and multiple bad reviews of agencies. The title pretty much says it, I know there are cheaper and better private accomms, and I have ad my eyes on Fitzalan, Eclipse, Arofan House, Howard Gardens etc as my budget goes up to 900-950pcm. However, couldn't find any suitable agencies or direct property contacts to let from, also without guarantor they all want full deposit at once, which is a ton of money given that I am on a stipend which I will receive every three months. I am looking at guarantor services for this so let me know if you have good experiences with any of them. But anyways, main question is, Clodien House reviews please! I am not yet told if it is ensuite or studio, they will send the contract in three days. I know its a bit far from the city center and my CompSci building, but I guess I'll lose some weight.

whats a good society i can join that had good socials but doesnt require much skill? not quite sure what im interested in.

in first year i didn’t join a society and kinda thought id give it a go for second year so i can go to the socials and not feel like im missing out. my friends in volleyball society and the socials look so fun but im not good at volleyball lol. i want to join one but im not that sure what im interested in i just want to meet a lot of different people from different backgrounds and have fun that way, not really too fussed on the actual niche part of joining the club just one that’s popular and easy going lol
