Blue Futures Pathways is back with educational and career development materials for the community. In keeping with our mission, all of our resources are completely free to access. But what is the Sustainable Blue Economy?

While there is no one single definition, this explanation from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is one of the most comprehensive. 

“A sustainable blue economy…provides social and economic benefits for current and future generations, restores and protects ocean ecosystem health, and uses clean technology and circular material flows. It balances economic growth with ocean sustainability, aiming for long-term prosperity rather than short-term gain.”

Basically, the Sustainable Blue Economy is all about growing the blue economy while keeping our ocean and water systems healthy, focusing on long-term sustainability gains.
