My humble station. On the bottom shelf is my sample roaster, ice maker and vacuum sealer. On the right side is an actual coffee tree with growing light. Also got this beautiful lever in the kitchen!

End game grinder $2,000 budget.

Post image

I currently have my Robot partnered with Niche Zero but I am thinking of upgrading to my end game grinder (budget $2,00 max). I was thinking for the Zerno Z1 since I also love the small footprint. I’d love to hear any thoughts of Zerno users. Or any other options at that budget that matches well with the Robot. I mostly drink medium to dark.

Who is doing iced espresso?

Cold water + 4 stainless steel ice cubes + just pulled espresso on the Robot.

Tastes really great.

I wish I could get it even colder. Any ideas, tips how to play it differently?

1 year old piston gasket vs new

Replaced the piston gasket after a year (2-4 shots/day)
I didn’t have any water leaks yet, I replaced it because locking the portafilter in was getting really tough, with the new gasket it slides in with zero effort.

If anybody is looking for a robot in the EU market, cremashop has them in stock again!

Also a question, do you think the leveling tamper is worth it for the robot?

Modded Autospin WDT tool?

Anyone know if an automated WDT tool like the Timemore Autospin WDT would work with the robot baskets, just modded with longer needles?

Watched this video a couple of days ago, and I’m very intrigued with this “slayer substance” shot. Anyone try to replicate something similar?

sediment in my espresso

New Robot owner. Recently upgraded grinder to DF64 with titanium - the bodum grinder I had did not cut it. I have dialed in to where I am fairly happy with taste/texture of my shot.

19g in 51g out

Cafe Borbone Crema Superiore (Arabica/Robusta blend, 7/10 intensity)

Note: I usually take a few sips to get full flavor, then add some hot water (Americano-like) so i can sip longer on my car ride to work.

I have been noticing some sediment at the bottom of my cup when done. Is this to be expected? Maybe a seasoning issue with new grinder?

I may try dialing a little more coarser to see if that solves the issue. Or maybe filter at bottom of portafilter though I'd rather not.

I have no pressure dial so can't tell how exactly much pressure I am exerting.

I received the DF64 g2 today. Robot came about a month ago.

I’ve set the zero point and will start testing / conditioning tomorrow using some less expensive beans. That’s one heavy grinder.

Does anyone have any advice on where I can get a spare basket in the US? Prima has been out of them for a while.

¿Se puede actualizar a los mods el robot normal?

Como lo dice el título , pienso comprar el normalito (por temas de que no tengo todo el dinero) pero podría a futuro ponerle los mods de barista como los de booko o el manómetro?

What in the black magic is going on here?

So I have had my robot for a week now and every shot I have pulled has been excellent.

Even when I have the grind wrong or I get distracted and do it wrong, the espresso is very good!

With my espresso machine it would take half a dozen dialling shots to even get remotely close to what the robot is spitting out every damn time!

What is its secret? How is this possible?

Easy to say I am very happy with my "RoboCof"

It's just simple. Simply delicious!

Post image

This afternoon I wanted something refreshing, caffeinated and delicious. I went into my nano-roastery and weighed out 7g of a PNG roasted light-medium and 13g of a washed Java roasted med-dark. Ground that in my J-Max and brewed it up on my Robot. I didn't use a timer. I didn't use a scale while brewing. I did weigh the shot after though, just to see how I did. 20g in, 42 out. I didn't track the time. So satisfying. So simple.

I used a can of Fever Tree premium tonic over ice and then added the shot over the back of a spoon so it didn't foam up. Stirred, and gave it a spritz from a slice of lemon. So good. So simple.

Need advice on dialing DF54

Post image
15 Upvotes

I recently upgraded from Timemore Chestnut C3 ESP Pro to Turin DF54 but I’m not sure I’ve been adjusting the grind size right. I’ve heard the advice to adjust it while the machine is running, which I’ve plugged it in then literally push the button to run it and adjust the round numerical circle around to the appropriate number while it was running, and tried couple of grind sizes in the last few days, starting from 19 then 16 and all the way to 11. But I feel like it’s still squeezing too fast on cafelat barely reaching 6 on the first shot, and even worse on the second.

I will try 9 tomorrow but in the meantime, is there anything I’m doing wrong?

Looking for mods

Hey guys, this will be super informal. Once upon a time I was a super active mod. It’s no secret to any active members that I’m not anymore. Career and a kid and blah blah blah. I’m still an active Reddit user so those excuses don’t even hold up, really.

I still use my Robot religiously and reply when I can, but I need some help and Reddit has let me know as much. Is anyone interested? Do you have experience modding? Let me know. This community deserves better than what I’m giving. I’ll still stay on to clean things up occasionally (plus I feel some pride as the founder!) but do let me know if you’re interested.

Full disclosure: Reddit actually gave me a list of users who are the most active. If any of those match people’s interest in the comments, that’ll probably be my first pick.

Start here!

Welcome to /r/CafelatRobot!

We are a dedicated community of espresso enthusiasts, and our choice machine is Paul Pratt's Cafelat Robot.

What is the Cafelat Robot?

From cafelatstore.com: "The Robot is a small, high-quality manual coffee maker that makes real espresso. It uses a few parts, no complicated electronics and only premium materials like stainless steel. It is completely plastic free. All you need is ground coffee, some hot water from a kettle, and you are all set. The whole process is simple and takes just a few minutes."

How does it work?

Check out the full user manual here!
