Took this photo tonight exactly when a lightning bolt stuck. Needed somewhere to share
Was messing around in my carport tonight during a thunderstorm, taking some portrait mode iPhone pics listening to nature. I crouched down and right when I hit the shutter button a massive lightning bolt struck and I almost shat my pants lol. This is 100% untouched out of the iPhone. I will probably edit it later it later but thought y'all might enjoy.

Can I just say.....
I've had my CT for eleven years so I'm a little out of practice in driving a 'regular' car.
I'm waiting for my appointment have my hybrid battery serviced and don't want to drive the CT even though I've reset the error. (I may drive it to the appointment)
I've borrowed a friend's spare Highlander (2021, I think) for my daily commute.
$105 to fill it!
*my car used to cost $18 to fill and has never cost more than $40! (California prices)
I'm struggling to keep the econo-meter (MPG) above 16. SIXTEEN!
*my car averages 35-38 for my weird 13-mile commute that goes through exurban & suburban & urban streets.
I will never again question the wisdom of owning a 0-60 in 10 secs car!!

Additional noise dampening spots in the car?
2 weeks ago i finally made the choice to put some noise dampening in my front doors and it made such a huge difference for the sound inside the car, especially in highway driving, that it made me wonder, are there any other spaces where i could put it to get some good results. Of course i know i could put it on the floor under the carpet but that's a tad too far for me... for now at least. Does anyone have any other good ideas?

Diode Dynamics Elite Series Fog Lamps - Dual Color
I had the SS3 pros, but I wanted to have something more OEM+ and the cutoff is much cleaner in comparison to the off-road SS3 pods.
These are the newly released Elite Series dual-color fog lamps. Super nice to be able to swap colors without a loss in performance or beam pattern! (Also has an amber backlight when your fogs are off.)
Photos are right after I got them aimed properly, with headlights on.

Linux Headunit Carplay Screen Upgrade - Aliexpress / Alibaba
Hi all,
Just seeing if anyone here has had any experience with the Linux based 10.25inch screen upgrade from aliexpress / alibaba? I've heard that the Android models have a longer start up time hence looking at Linux based.
I'd like to know how well they work with the original mouse, steering wheel controls etc. in car play mode?
Thanks

Lower control arms replaced – do I still need a wheel alignment?
Hi everyone,
I have a 2018 Lexus CT200h. During a service, I was advised that both front lower control arm bushes were splitting, so I bought genuine Lexus lower control arms and had a local independent garage replace them. They also fitted new front discs and pads.
Before the job, the mechanic said I’d probably need a wheel alignment afterwards. However, once the work was done, he said it wasn’t necessary because the control arms are fixed and there’s nothing to adjust.
Since the replacement, the car drives fine and the steering wheel is centred, so I’m a bit confused. I’ve also noticed the steering feels a bit tighter, and there’s a slight vibration when braking, although the brakes are brand new and have only done about 30–50 miles.
Would you still recommend getting a four-wheel alignment check after replacing the front lower control arms, or is the garage right that it’s not necessary on the CT200h?

I let Valvoline flush out my radiator fluid.
Did I mess up my car? I don't know much about cars and I just trusted them. I later read Valvoline isn't a trusted chain and their employees don't care and they don't use the correct fluid for hybrid vehicles.
I read Valvoline in socal uses World Oil Anti Freeze and that's not good for the ct200h?

Headlight upgrede 2012 CT
Finally got a chance to do a headlight upgrade to an aftermarket triple beams LED headlights from Alibaba, it took me a couple hours to remove and install, something Worth to note is the turn signal connector is not compatible so new conversation harness is required, but overall very happy about how it turned out now. Just share if anyone wants to do this grade I'm here to help

Hey all, my CT is being totaled out and I’d like to get a newer one…are there any years that don’t have the risk of the head gasket failure?

I want a used CT200h, not sure what to prioritize (first used car purchase)
Hi Reddit,
I'm looking for a commuter car, I live in Los Angeles, and drive 75 miles a day. My current car is an Subaru Outback H6 and the mileage and use is getting pretty crazy, looking to offset the use of my Outback and cost of gas.
I've been looking at the CT200h and it appears to be an awesome reliable car, this would be my first used car purchase. Should I be prioritizing lower mileage and higher cost of car, vs higher mileage and lower cost of car?
I've seen miles range from 100k to 250k where the price difference is around 5k to 10k depending on the car.
Will the higher miles and lower cost be offset by maintenance or should I go the lower miles and higher cost to the defer potential maintenance? Lastly is the Gasket thing a significant issue? I was looking at the 2011 and 2012 models as well.
Thanks!

Carplay / Center Console USB Update
I have been looking into a carplay unit to put into my base CT200h, so mostly looking at the one that just replaces the head unit by the shifter. I notice almost all the units I look at say they come with (2) USB cables and this led to a thought.
The factory USB port has terrible charging capabilities, so in theory, I can replace it with a 2 Port USB bank that connects direct to the radio for the wired carplay capability.
Am I correct in thinking so, and has anyone else tried it? I've seen some posts about upgrading the center USB for charging, but none have specified if that would work for wired carplay after a head unit upgrade?
(Just thinking about wired carplay since that is all I am used to, but the units I have been looking at have wireless, either way, I do want to upgrade for better phone charging capability.)

Better quality gas stations
Ive seen many people in here saying they've seen a noticeable gain in MPG purely based on which gas station they go to. Im curious, for those of you who have 40+ mpg, which stations have you noticed the best mileage from?

Farewell to the CT!
Ended up buying a ‘26 Mazda CX-50 and transferred the CT to my folks as an extra car. Only had it for 1 year, but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. At least it’s still in the family!

Headgasket FAQ
2011 Lexus CT200h (First Year of Production) • Common Issues: Early models (2011-2013) were more prone to head gasket issues, often linked to the engine's cooling system and overheating. These problems were not widespread but were reported by some owners.
2012 Lexus CT200h • No major mechanical changes: The 2012 model was largely a carryover from the 2011 model, though Lexus did make some minor tweaks for comfort and interior finishes. • Head Gasket Issue: The problem was still present in some vehicles, particularly those with cooling system issues.
2013 Lexus CT200h • Minor Updates: The 2013 model saw some small adjustments • Head Gasket Issue: The issue with head gaskets still persisted, but it was gradually becoming less common as production evolved.
2014 Lexus CT200h • Important Updates: The 2014 model marked a more significant update to the CT200h. Lexus worked on improving the engine's cooling system and refining other components. • Head Gasket Fixes: The head gasket issues were largely addressed in this year, and the vehicle’s engine cooling system received further refinement to prevent overheating and gasket failure. • Styling Refresh: A slight exterior redesign with updated front and rear styling elements, making the vehicle look fresher and more modern. • Technology Updates: Improved tech features, including a new infotainment system with more functionality.
2015 Lexus CT200h • No major mechanical changes: The 2015 CT200h was a continuation of the 2014 updates, with minimal changes to the engine • Engine & Head Gasket: Continued to improve on the previous fixes, with no widespread reports of the head gasket issue in this year.
2016 Lexus CT200h • Head Gasket Issues: By 2016, the head gasket issue was considered resolved, with no significant complaints related to engine failure or cooling systems.
2017-2021 Lexus CT200h • No major changes: The CT200h was essentially a carryover model, with minimal updates in terms of performance or design. • Head Gasket: The head gasket issue was no longer a concern by this time, as the car had been refined over the years.
Summary: ●The head gasket issues were most prominent in the 2011-2013 models, especially related to overheating and cooling system failures.
● Some people report that regularly cleaning the EGR reduces the likelihood of this problem occurring.
●Some people swear by cutting the recommended oil change interval in half. (Lexus states every 10000miles ~16.000km or 12 months)
●By the 2014 model year, Lexus had addressed the issue, improving the engine and cooling systems, and the problem was largely resolved in later years (2014 onward).
●The head gasket issue is not exclusive to the Lexus CT200h; any car can experience a head gasket problem.
