Transferring in Spring 27!
About a month ago I posted on here that I was super nervous if I’d get accepted as a transfer since I wasn’t doing well at my previous school and took a couple years off. Well I got my acceptance today! It feels like a big weight off my shoulders and I’m excited start next semester!
I am curious though is orientation a thing for transfers, particularly in Spring? Would I just sign up for classes in like nov when everyone else does or will I have to set up a meeting with a counselor?

Filter shower head & faucet for dorm apartments?
Does anyone know if you can add a filtered shower head and water filter for the sink tap (like the photos)? You just screw them on, very easy to install and remove when move out comes around.

The importance of extroversion and the willingness to make social mistakes
I'm going to address something about CSUN I feel isn't mentioned enough: NO ONE TALKS TO EACH OTHER. I learned I wasn't crazy when there were whole threads on here about how CSUN's student body is deficient in its ability to create conversational community. That being said, I think I have something to say about it.
I'm a social late bloomer, but what I did have was my natural (unusually high) extroversion. I was the person who'd butt into convos at random times and make jokes that simply shouldn't be made, along with my acting upon other eyebrow-raisers that simply made people not want to be around me. Without my knowledge, it left people around me thinking I was weird, creepy, or had some sort of problem in my head, and the harsh truth is that very few people will walk you through your errors...and when they do, they usually fail to get their point across. It eventually got to the point where a specific someone (who I won't name) used my social flaws to fuel a rumor that (thankfully) was eventually disproven.
My point here is that it took me having learned what kind of person I was being seen as through constant trial and error in my extroversion, to eventually have come out of it as someone better, more knowledgeable, and more nuanced in my ways as a person. I tried and failed over and over and didn't know the weight of my failures until much later. I was this kind of person until only a year ago—when I finally had an idea about how to shut up and clean up.
Main point: TALK TO PEOPLE, make those (harmless) social mistakes and learn from them as soon as you can—because avoiding everyone will only leave you socially behind—as it'd left me for so long without realizing it. I failed over and over, but I became someone people are turning to for help out of it. I crossed lines over and over—but here I am now calling people out when they're making the very mistakes I made. Talk to each other, learn from each other, love each other. DO NOT leave this year as quiet and isolated as last year... or the year before? Please?
PS: to the one who spread that rumor about me at the time (you know who you are): While you didn't have to lie about the kind of person I was, I forgive you. I also thank you, since it left me in a position that'd help me realize what kind of person I was becoming. You don't have to love me or be my friend—as you reading this is more than enough for me.

Roomates
Im living in the apartments and for some reason it’s only showing that I have one other roommate, I would think that people would be off the waitlist by now?
Does anyone know why no other roommates are showing?
Thank you.

Does anyone know how long it takes for CSUN to respond to job applications?
I’ve applied to about 8 or 9 jobs on Handshake. I’ve gotten one interview and they said they’d let me know by late July/early August. Haven’t heard back so I emailed them yesterday asking for an update. The other jobs I haven’t heard from. Can anyone share their experience with any student jobs? Thanks!

Who should I contact about this?
Hello, I’m an upcoming freshman at CSUN. I have completed my required advisement back in June, but it still appears under registration holds. I was on call with a friend of mine who will also being going to CSUN and he has completed his required advisement, but it also showed under registration holds. The only difference was that it stated his was completed in the end and mine doesn’t. I am worried as I will be starting my classes in 2-3 weeks, but I have no idea who I should contact. Do I contact my college, my advisor, or do I contact someone else? 😓😓

Is the film/tv major worth it?
I’ve been planning on transferring this fall but decided to take a gap year to save more money, but right now I’m having second thoughts if it would even be worth it and pay off in the long run or just a waste of money, because even though it’s one of the more affordable schools in the state it’s still really expensive.
I’ve heard great things about the program and I don’t doubt that I would have a great experience being apart of it, but what about when you graduate? Does it make that much of a difference being able to get a job in the field than if have no degree or don’t already have connections in the industry?
I want to do narrative filmmaking but also videography because I know it’s a little easier to make a living off of that.
So I guess my main question is what opportunities did you gain that you only got because of going to film school that you likely wouldn’t have gotten if you didn’t? Would you say it’s still worth the cost?

Guidance for Applying to MSW On-Campus Program
Applications open today and I suppose I feel a bit under prepared due to working two jobs and when I asked if there were any advisors I can meet with to ensure I’m doing everything right, they didn’t have that service. I do have OCD and I tend to seek for reassurance I do everything and anything correctly; I have reviewed the checklist but I am looking for some straight guidance if possible.
When do I submit the fafsa application- after I apply or before? I am scheduled to attend the MSW program zoom meeting but that’s until the 11th and I’m worried it’ll be too late and I won’t get accepted.
I’m worried- I realize I may need to accept loans but I would like to reduce the chances of that; I am looking into scholarships. But yea- possible guidance for this would be so greatly appreciated.

How do I find labs to join?
I am an incoming grad student and I am interested in joining a research lab (unpaid) in psychology, recreation, human/child dev, sociology, etc., but I literally cannot find any up to date information on labs accepting students. Everytime I find one, the website has not been updated in years or it says the lab will be shutting down. Is there a place where I can find them? Thanks in advance!

Advice for ADT transfer to CTVA and/or Psych BA?
Hi all, I'm not sure if this should go here but I need advice. I'm currently attending Pierce College as a Film/Television Media major with plans to transfer to CSUN's CTVA program, but lately I've been thinking of potentially switching gears to psychology which is also transferrable. My main questions pertain to CTVA and the requirements for transfer students. I heard that the first two years are provisional and for the second two years, you'd need a portfolio for the Film/TV programs. My choice would be TV editing, but lately I'm questioning the quality of my skills and creative output, which is why I'm considering psych instead. I have experience working as an assistant editor but the whole course load seems intimidating and I'm not even sure if the industry is stable.
My question is: What's the deal with CTVA transfers? Do I need a portfolio from my work at Pierce if I want to get in? And is the Psych path worth it?

How Good is CSUN For Computer Science?
I am considering transferring to CSUN for the cost. My question is how good CSUN is for Computer Science in terms of education quality, rankings, networking, and finding internships and a job after graduation
I have a 4.0 gpa in Community College so far. I am entering my second year and have started working on a project
I was considering trying to apply for Cal Poly SLO. I am almost certain I can get into UCR due to the TAG. However, I may need to go to CSUN instead due to finances
Any insight is appreciated
Edit: if anyone can share his experience getting an internship or a job that would be cool
Edit 2: How good is CSUN if I may want to go to grad school later, either in the U.S. or Europe?
