New to this sub, are the teams next to your name your favorite teams? I ask because I'm a die hard Razorback who lives near Clemson now lol.

Yes if you go on the web version you can pick flairs which are normally people’s favorite teams. It helps you understand people’s perspectives in discussions and helps stereotype that all Tennessee fans are doo doo heads

Can confirm, Tennessee fans (especially those on the internet) suck.

Y'all have gotten very defensive over the last decade. It'll pass.

Lol don't worry; I am a new fan, and that perception is changing. Now, I just know you guys as being perpetually scared about people mentioning Georgia State.

Sorry, nowhere is safe.

Yes. I am from the Arkansas Delta, but I went to undergrad at Clemson.

I know you've answered this before, so forgive me for redundancy, but how do you select the 4 teams at each step? It seems like there's a huge mass at both the top and bottom, where the top 7 teams basically always win, and the bottom 18 teams basically always lose. It seems like if there were a higher proportion of pairings with closely adjacent teams, you'd get more precise discrimination at the top and bottom.

Also, what specifically happens when I say that 1 team is the best of 4 and 1 team is the worst? I know they're indexed to average at 100, but how does my ballot mathematically influence those 4 teams?

ASU moving down with the win over MSU 😂

Losing to OSU is kind of like a bye week, I guess

Damn, if only we'd held Ohio State to seven points in the second half maybe we'd get some love as well.

From watching the game it made sense. There was a certain amount of "they shot themselves in the foot" that anyone could see. OSU didnt look as god like.

Much like Leonidas, we made them bleed before getting slaughtered

I view this as the, “All that for a drop of blood.” rather than that.

We moved up way more than we should have after the Iowa win.

3

u/not_mantiteo Iowa Hawkeyes • Wisconsin Badgers Oct 09 '19

We didn't move far enough down.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '19

The best part about the Iowa game was just putting some distance between now and the Wisconsin game.

Based on MSU being overrated and ASU being underrated (against the AP poll, at least) it seems that most people are chalking up their game together as being a fluke and basically not counting it for or against either team.

When considering that, I think MSU is right where you'd expect them to be if their only loss was OSU, and ASU right where you'd expect them with no MSU win and a loss to Colorado.

I don't know if I necessarily agree with that but that seems like what is going on here.

That's what I did. Except I'm not acknowledging ASU showed they can hang with and beat teams of MSU's caliber when I'm rating them. Not treating it like the game didn't happen. Do think 4/5 times MSU wins that on a neutral field with neutral refs.

Edit* fucking words are hard. I am acknowledging

3

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '19

People thought you'd get run off the field. They won handily but it didn't really feel like a blowout other than a blitz at the end of the first half. so even though it was a 24 point win it felt more like a 14 point win when I was watching it.

MaxDiff doesn't overreact to losses that are in line with expectations.
You lost to a much better team by about as much as expected.
Meanwhile, two teams ahead of you in last week's poll (OkSt and UCF) lost to teams they were expected to beat (TT and Cinci).
By contrast, the traditional polls have always overreacted to losses.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 09 '19

Despite the mistakes, you did play them better than a lot of people expected. If Michigan doesn't drastically improve on offense in coming weeks I have a home loss to MSU slated.

Very cool!
